Fellow Seibertronian SnoopDawg has sent us a notification of a new piece up on The Hollywood Reporter - which may be entirely unfounded, so grab your salt packs - about next year's Bumblebee spinoff movie from the Paramount Transformers cinematic universe. Apparently, 20 year old True Grit cast member Hailee Steinfeld is in talks for the movie, as a 'tomboy who also holds a job as a mechanic after school'. Check out the full piece here, and an extract below!

Hailee Steinfeld is in negotiations to star in Paramount's Transformers spinoff Bumblebee.

Travis Knight, who directed the stop-motion movie Kubo and the Two Strings, is helming the project.

Bumblebee is the yellow and black striped Autobot that appears as one of the main characters in the Transformers film series.

Plot details are being kept on the dark side of the moon but it is known that Steinfeld will play a tomboy who also holds a job as a mechanic after school. Christina Hodson (Shut In) wrote the script.

The movie project is the first spinoff in what the studio hopes will be a Transformers Cinematic Universe that will include prequels and offshoots from a line of movies that have generated over $3.7 billion worldwide with the latest one, Transformers: The Last Knight, set to hit theaters June 23.

Discovering the wetness of water in economics terms, CNBC has published a short article / interview with Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for comScore, discussing the international impact and importance for US-based productions. Specifically, Pirates of the Caribbean and Transformers, which are both much bigger since their first release abroad than they are in domestic markets.

In addition, they also add that the Transformers franchise will be adding four more movies at least after The Last Knight - three (ish) of which we know about: Bumblebee, Cybertron, and potentially Ancient Rome. But we personally think the article is just speculating. What do you think? Let us know in the Energon Pub!

Dergarabedian said that international audiences, particularly in China, India and South America, still embrace these films because they grew up on big American blockbusters and enjoy the action-packed adventures.

"Action is the international language and that's what audiences really respond to," he said.

"The Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise isn't the only one that gets an international boost. The "Transformers" films have also been met by lackluster reviews and U.S. audience fatigue.

The fourth "Transformers" film, "Age of Extinction," which was released in 2014, garnered more than $858.6 million in international tickets. Domestically, its ticket sales for the full run of the film were about $245 million.

Dergarabedian attributed the film's international success not only to the action sequences, but the cast of Mark Wahlberg, an action movie star, and the fact that much of the film took place in a city in China. He said that international audiences like to see films set on a global stage

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

If you've looked at the movie listings this weekend, and asked yourself "Why is Disney making another 'Pirates of the Caribbean film?" you're not alone.

The fifth installment "Dead Men Tell No Tales" opens Friday in the U.S. With each new addition to the Pirates' franchise, the reviews have gotten worse and the U.S. audiences have shrunk. But overseas, fans are still enamored with Johnny Depp's swashbuckling portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow.

International markets have driven the majority of box office revenue for the "Pirates" franchise since the first film was released in 2003. At the box office "Curse of the Black Pearl" saw a pretty even split between U.S. and international ticket sales, but with each additional release, that gap has widened.

By the fourth film, "On Stranger Tides," more than 75 percent of box office revenue was earned overseas, a whopping $804.8 million.

For comparison, the film garnered $241 million in the U.S., less than the opening weekend gross of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

"U.S. audiences have been subjected to so many sequels over the decades that it is hard to maintain the excitement," Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for comScore, told CNBC.

Despite the lackluster performances in the United States, two of the "Pirates" films have garnered more than $1 billion in total global ticket sales and one fell just shy of the mark with $962 million.

Dergarabedian said that international audiences, particularly in China, India and South America, still embrace these films because they grew up on big American blockbusters and enjoy the action-packed adventures.

"Action is the international language and that's what audiences really respond to," he said.

"If you look at the numbers, international has to be at the forefront," Dergarabedian said. "Appealing to global audiences is the driving force."

That's why this summer a fifth "Transformers" film, "The Last Knight," will hit theaters.

While several cast members of the "Pirates" franchise have hinted that there could be more films in the future, the studio does not currently have any plans for a sixth installment.

"Transformers," on the other hand, is slated to release at least four more films after "The Last Knight," one of which will be a standalone "Bumblebee" movie set for release in 2018.

After the sudden reveal of MP-39 Sunstreaker from Takara Tomy Transformers, we now have a cautious rumour about an upcoming figure in the same line. Transformers fan Jun Hasui on Facebook has shared with us an image of promotional material for the upcoming Tokyo Toy Show (more info on the event here), which appears to show the silhouette of both robot and car mode for what looks decidedly very much like Jazz.

Check out the image below, let us know what you think, and stay tuned for updates as the story develops in the next couple of weeks!

UPDATE: Thanks to Italian fan Andrea Cheem Stefanelli, among others, we have confirmation that this was a modified image showing a composite teaser. Thanks for playing!

Thanks to fellow Seibertronians Rainmaker and Burn, we have some Transformers Titans Return updates from Australia, in the form of wave 4 - and possible repercussions. Rainmaker has sighted Quake, the Hardhead repaint with new Titan Master Chasm, at a Kmart in Canberra, but Burn's notification of the Ozformers page brings some bad news with the good... Read on below for more!

And as always, make sure to use our Sightings Database tool to update fellow collectors on figure availability across the globe.

A follow up to the recent sightings of Titans Return Deluxe Krok and Quake in Australia.

UNFORTUNATELY.... it looks like the delay of getting Wave 4 here (three months after America and Asia) has meant that we might have missed out on the regular wave 4 assortment, and have instead received a REVISION wave 4, as only Quake and Krok have been found at a number of stores. (the full assortment of this revision case is not yet known, but it could be wave 3 toys filling out the rest of the case)

So, what about Topspin, Perceptor and Kup?
There are no details (yet) about future case assortments beyond the regular wave 4 on the usual sites that list case assortments, so there is no information at this time about if these three toys will see a return in future waves... so we just have to hope they will.
Wave 5 has an odd number of new toys (Twintwist, Misfire, new Windblade), and hopefully Topspin will at least be re-released with Twintwist.

Until we know more (and update fans here), if you desperately want Perceptor, Kup and Topspin, perhaps look online for a reliable, affordable source.
Or... if you find the three Autobot toys at a major retailer in Australia, let us know about it, in case we did actually get some of the regular Wave 4 cases here.

Here's some buzzworthy news for a Sunday: Hasbro has applied for a new symbol with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) this past week, to be used with ' Toy action figures, toy vehicles and toy robots convertible into other visual toy forms ' and featuring the description: 'The mark consists of A stylized design of a bee.'

With 2018 bringing us the Bumblebee spin-off movie, directed by Travis Knight and written by Christina Hodson, there is sufficient ground to speculate that this symbol may indeed have something to do with the Cybertronian yellow scout. Check it out below, and let us know what you think!

Some further leaks for our regular friends on Weibo bring us some more artwork for the Transformers: The Last Knight packaging - and we get a new look at Hot Rod, plus Bumblebee, and an expanded version of the Megatron vs Optimus Prime we saw here.

Two characters per mock-up may very well indicate two packs, as teased in the Cybertron 2 Pack Deluxe listings seen back here, in combination with the Mission to Cybertron news from earlier today. In any case, take a look below, and join the conversation in the Energon Pub!

Our friends over at TFW2005 have been able to find out more information about the glyphs we've been seeing on figures and instructions sheets across the Transformers: The Last Knight toyline, and may have confirmed a retailer exclusive (probably Toys'R'Us again, which is not good news internationally) sub-line for the movie toys: Mission to Cybertron.

The site was able to screencap instructions of a Glyph Decoder, then immediately taken down by Hasbro, then more 'decodable glyphs' appeared on the likes of Skullitron, Nitro and Megatron, and Infernocus and Quintessa. Now, fallen-revenge has found a promotional banner for Mission to Cybertron at a Toys'R'Us store in the US, making the speculation just that little more concrete! Check it out below, and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub.

Once again via Weibo, we have a look at what may or may not be packaging art - but art nonetheless - featuring Optimus Prime and Megatron in battle, with the hive pattern behind them as a blue planet takes over the background. We don't want to speculate too much, but we are still waiting to find out more about a certain Cybertron Planet listing we saw a long while back.

Check it out and let us know what you think!

TFW2005 user catz has shared an order form which claims that a new item will be similar to AD 31 Armor Knight Optimus Prime from the Takara version of the Age of Etinction Line called Movie Advanced. AD 31 is Takara's retool of the AOE Leader Optimus. We already know hat Hasbro is re-releasing AOE Leader Optimus Prime in the Transformers The Last Knight movie line with a new deco. We can guess that Takara would be doing the same with their toyline but using their retool instead. The price matches up as well since the MSRP shown here is 8,000 yen, around the same MSRP as AD 31 Armor Knight Optimus Prime. Stay tuned!

We've heard a couple of things about the 2018 Bumblebee solo project from Paramount, written by Christina Hodson and directed by Travis Knight, but it seems we finally have confirmation that the movie will indeed be a prequel story of sorts, according to Michael Bay himself. In an interview with MTV, which you can watch below, he states among other things that:
"It'll go a little younger, and it will deal more with his character and it's just about him."

While Bumblebee may not be the sole character in the movie it might be the case that he's the only Cybertronian around. But he may also meet a character we will discover in The Last Knight, if the reports and rumours from the Super Fan footage are to be believed... Let us know what you think in the Energon Pub!
