Seibertron member What's Crackin' sent us in news this afternoon of yet another video review from YouTube channel TonTon Review! This time, it's Studio Series 41 Deluxe Class Constructicon Scrapmetal! This character is most famous for his role in the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen film as the hapless organ donor for the revived Megatron. Now, he's a fully fledged entry into the growing Transformers Generations Studio Series line! Scrapmetal has been promoted to a spot on the Constructicon team, forming the left hand of the mighty combiner Devastator. Scrapmetal is due out later this year in the sixth overall Deluxe Class wave for the Studio Series. TonTon shows off size comparisons for alt mode and robot mode with other Transformers figures, as well as the conversion between Scrapmetal's robot mode and his construction excavator mode. TonTon also lists off some details about the sculpt and paint job of the figure before ending with a demonstration of how to transform Scrapmetal into hand mode for Devastator. Of note, Scrapmetal appears to be a hefty Deluxe sized figure, standing not too much shorter than the already apparently robustly sized Studio Series 37 Voyager Constructicon Rampage we covered a few days ago. Ze little one? Hardly! Take a look at Scrapmetal for yourself below!

What do you make of this latest entry into the Studio Series line? Is your excitement for the eventual Devastator figure growing? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned to Seibertron.com for the latest news on all things Transformers!

Hm, Scrapmetal looks fun. Nice in both his own modes and is a chunky deluxe. Looks like he's worth a purchase even if you don't buy any other Devastator parts (as all good combiner toys should be)

When I was at LFCC 2018 where this guy was revealed, they told me Scrapmetal is based off of concept art and didn't appear in the film. The organ donor was actually Scrapper.

tfwiki says Scrapper is part of Devastator though (the yellow digger and was in previous Devastator toys), and that Scrapmetal was 'ze little one' but the Scrapmetal toy here is based off the concept art as you say

I knew this guy was a concept Decepticon, but I didn't really remember him in the movie. Always thought it was Scrapper that gets mauled :-? . Although, he was in TLK, in the junkyard right before Megatron attacks. Think he was behind Hound or something, but he was definitely in there. Anyway, really like how these Constructicons are shaping up, can't wait for more reveals! :x

Looks like a fun little deluxe and the parts forming doesn't bother me here :)

Meh, he needs to combine with a 2007 Megatron to create ROTF Megatron </sarcasm>
"Scrapmetal" looks neat, and is one of the more interesting to me since he didn't get a full toy before.

But the Constructicons I'm most interested in seeing period are Scavenger, Overload, and Mixmaster, to see how successfully they reconcile those.

I'm looking forward to more Constructicons in general. I love the variety of designs used, and so far they are turning out really cool!

I hope they keep Hightower as the sub-humanoid pet of the team. And I really want to see a leader Scavenger and Overload

In ROTF, when we see the Decepticons on the ship, one of them is a yellow excavator that inexplicably ends up transforming into a robot mode identical to that of Scrapper, despite having a very different altmode from the Scrapper(s) we see later in the movie during the battle in the desert. This Scrapper lookalike is the one referred to by Scalpel as "ze little one" who gets killed by the other Constructicons so that his parts may be used for Megatron's resurrection.

Concept art for a completely different Construction from Scrapper altogether was later added to Scrapmetal's TFwiki page, as part of its Notes section, since it was the closest thing to (semi-)official art of what Scrapmetal's proper robot mode might look like. Eventually, on July 31, 2017, a user with a history of questionable edits moved this pic to the top of said article as its mainpic. No one caught this curious edit, and it has been postulated that this edit resulted in Hasbro looking up Scrapmetal on TFWiki, seeing that art at the top of the page, and using it as the basis for the robot mode design of this new Studio Series Scrapmetal toy.

Meanwhile, the Scrapper/Scrapmetal lookalike seen in the junkyard in TLK was an Autobot refugee hiding out there with the others, and has been given the semi-official name of "Trench" by the company who made his altmode, Catepillar, Inc.

Hey, anyone who has SS Jetfire in hand -

Is the prime chest piece that comes with Jetfire the same metallic red as on SS-05?

I'm also happy for those who are enjoying the SS line, but I'm not blown away by it. I've gotten 6 figures so far, and I probably won't get more than another few. I never cared for movie Devastator because he couldn't stand upright. I liked and cheered his combination scene in RoTF but when he couldn't stand up at the end I was bummed. Eh, physics. Plus I think hunching over like a gorilla makes him look more brutish, badass and unique.
Plus he's supposed to be 100ft tall if he could stand up, so hunching over and being 45ft tall instead helps get him in shot better with other characters while retaining all that chunk and mass. I always found G1 Devs rather goofy looking anyways (and for something supposed to be such a threat he seemed to always have the dumbest look on his face) and prefer the more beast-like RotF Devs.

As for the wrecking balls, I'm not generally one for crude humour but they had to store somewhere so that's as good a place as any I suppose (rather than adding a bit more weight to the already heavy top). They're just metal balls anyways, he's not a naked organic creature with actual testicles so it really didn't bother me.

Except, none of his nine components' altmodes had any wrecking balls. We get a good look at every single vehicle that forms him in the movie before they combine, and all of them are construction vehicles that didn't use, store, or carry wrecking balls. Of all nine components, Hightower was the only one that could have used a wrecking ball (not two, only one), but his crane altmode in the movie was not equipped with a wrecking ball, instead merely equipped with no attachments to its crane arm at all. Bay put the two wrecking on Devastator's underside in that scene just to make that joke because that's the kind of "humor" Bay likes.

And the writers strike more or less allowed him to make that happen, though would have been nice for an executive producer to have stepped in but guess they were all busy >:oP

I have never understood the fandom-wide pearl-clutching over Devastator's wrecking balls. Like, I thought it was pretty funny. Heck, even my mother thought it was funny. Granted it wouldn't have been half as funny without John Tuturro's excellent delivery ("I am directly below...enemy scrotum!") but honestly, as crude jokes go it was OK. Heck, even within the same film it sure beats Wheelie humping Mikaela's leg, or Skids and Mudflap in general.

I always treat skids and mudflaps like the guy in Offsprings Pretty Fly for a White Guy video aka white guys trying desperately to be something else, or like Ali G. But I get this may be a culture thing here in the UK.

Speaking of them, surely the clock is ticking on when that pair turn up as deluxes in the Studio Series line, same with Jolt :-?

It's likely because of how much the rest of the film was so much of a stoner film that, by the time the wrecking balls showed up, it was just one more thing added to the pile of dumb that the movie had already built up so much of and people simply lumped it in with everything else to collectively illustrate all of that film's problems at once.

IIRC the intention (on the part of their voice actors FWIW, one of whom is black himself) was to take the mick out of tryhard wannabe "gangstas" regardless of race, but particularly taking aim at "wiggers". How well they succeeded with that is up for debate of course, and the characters were incredibly obnoxious, but I do think the accusations of racism (as opposed to them simply being crap characters) fall a little flat.

A shame really, aside from their heads they were cool designs. If I ever get round to writing a fancomic/fanfic I'll probably recycle them (with new heads and completely overhauled characterization) as "Tunes" and "Beatbox". Perhaps them, Jazz and Blaster could form a Rhythm and Blues band together?

As for SS figures, whilst I don't have Mudflap, the ROTF Deluxe Skids still holds up pretty well, so if we don't get updates I'll be happy with them.

I'm willing to accept that explanation, even if I wouldn't have minded seeing him in wide shots because of that. I mean, Devy didn't really fight any other character, he just trashed the pyramid and got taken out from far away. Sure, he ate the green Twin and took some blasts in the face, but it wasn't really a fight.
I always found G1 Devs rather goofy looking anyways (and for something supposed to be such a threat he seemed to always have the dumbest look on his face) and prefer the more beast-like RotF Devs.
Not me. If Devastator from the comics (or even the cartoon) made it onto the big screen, it would have been great.
As for the wrecking balls, I'm not generally one for crude humour but they had to store somewhere so that's as good a place as any I suppose (rather than adding a bit more weight to the already heavy top).
How about as weapons? Have them be on a long chain and have Devy swing them at enemies, or even the pyramid he was tearing up. But as it's been pointed out, none of his components had them, so they shouldn't have been there to being with, even if I thought the crane could have had them.
They're just metal balls anyways, he's not a naked organic creature with actual testicles so it really didn't bother me.
But the fact that Simmons qualified them as such in dialogue makes them a sexual object. But I guess that's on Bay and his 14-year-old's maturity level. Instead of letting him finish the film on his own, Paramount should have pushed it back until the end of the strike so actual writers could have done the writing. The wait would have been worth it, because the first film wasn't bad.

Paramount was part of the problem, they might not have had anything to fill that slot and may have been worried that pushing it back may have hit profits. To be fair to them it did make a stupid amount of money...

How big was Sentinel in the movie? Was he bigger or same size as megs. Been a while since I've seen it and can't remember the comparison with prime or megs.

If we do get a new Sentinel, I'd want him to include a similar feature to the Hound we got in TLK line with the removable helmet. It's a little thing, but I don't remember him being that big so if they do make him a leader, I'd expect that as a feature, just to help justify the parts count

According to the height guides, Sentinel is supposed to be 30 feet tall, so a little taller than Optimus (28) but still shorter than Megatron (35).

In the actual movie though, Sentinel is like just barely shorter than Megatron, almost the same height.

MegatronSentinel.jpg

I think Sentinel being 30 feet tall checks out alright since he doesn't look to be that much taller than Optimus, I think it's actually Megatron whose height - at least in ROTF and DOTM - looks closer to 31ish feet on screen.

I'm trying to think out my game plan for SS Optimus. I know I'll be getting the DOTM Leader since that's my favorite look for him, but I wasn't sure about the metallic red. I was thinking that if I really didn't like it I could get SS-32 and give him the abs and flight tech/trailer from DOTM Prime. But if the shade of red is lighter than SS-05, it should be ok. Super excited to see how SS DOTM Prime looks and what he comes with!

 I thought about saying it the other way, but good taste prevailed.

As for the height difference, I think Megatron and Sentinel look close to each other is because in DoTM Megatron hunched over, he rarely stood straight up, except at the end when he attacked Sentinel and then you could see he was taller and bulkier.

RotF Devs is extremely top-heavy so he has to walk on all fours. And that makes him move far more beast-like and certainly more threatening looking than the jolly green giant who just stood very still and punched things occasionally.

Rodimus Prime wrote:But the fact that Simmons qualified them as such in dialogue makes them a sexual object.

Nope. Just cos Simmons made reference to them looking like that doesn't make it so. They're just metal spheres. They have no actual biological function whatsoever. Fair enough that they didn't seem to belong to any vehicle shown to merge into Devs (and perhaps they were supposed to but things got a bit cut and messed up). Who cares? It's a harmless joke. Not my thing but I really didn't care.

Stoner film? Odd. Never been stoned in my whole life (Barely ever drank and only ever had one puff of a cigarette just to be sure I don't care for it. I did have a friend who had a similar situation to Judy did in the early part of the film so yes I know pot brownies are a thing and no I've never had them. That I'm aware of) but I actually quite enjoy the film. Not everything in it but the vast majority of the runtime goes along very nicely for me and has some really great scenes (the forest battle being the obvious one). And hey 'pile of dumb'? Sounds quite authentic to the G1 cartoon then. That show was one dumb thing after another but a lot of G1 fans don't seem to accept that, treating it like it's some kind of untouchable masterpiece rather than the sloppily written, poorly animated piece of crud almost totally devoid of any logic or sense, which it has always been (partly due to being based to sell a robot toyline made up of previous robot toylines that weren't designed to go together anyways). Jeez, even as a young kid in the 80s I couldn't bloody stand it. I loved the toys (though that decreased with each year as they dropped the attempts to have realistic alt-modes and actually detailed robot modes, thank god for bayverse bringing that back in full force which continues to this day after minor brief revivals of the concept with some of RiD2001).

ZeroWolf wrote:I always treat skids and mudflaps like the guy in Offsprings Pretty Fly for a White Guy video aka white guys trying desperately to be something else, or like Ali G. But I get this may be a culture thing here in the UK.

That's what I always assumed they were supposed to be. There are no black, white, chinese, french etc Transformers. They come to earth and some take on characteristics of whatever earth culture they were exposed to (given that it was mentioned very early on they learn stuff from the internet and god knows you're gonna run into some dumb crap on there soon enough) much like how they scan for alt-modes to blend in. And yeah, Skids and Mudflap were being like the desperate white guys trying to be all cool and with all 'gangsta' stuff as ZeroWolf mentioned. There's tons more actual racist stuff (actual brutal stuff that impacts people's lives in a severe way) going on in the world to get all riled up about rather than a couple goofy characters being goofy. It clearly didn't work for a lot of people so probably going back shouldn't have been done that way but eh that's what we got. I still found them kinda likable against Devs though.

Anyways Studio... I still haven't been able to find Sideswipe and Barricade for sale here in UK at moment like I did with Jetfire and Optimus. The one retailer that did have them that I found, I was literally hours late and they apparently sold out and just have the Crank, Clunk, Bones (the latter of which I'd like but I've spent too much lately and my last bit of money for now is reserved for Bad Cop Barry and the Silver Skater especially since I no longer have any of their previous toys having sold them in my previous figure culls to help pay for more Studio figures.

You're entitled to your opinion as I am to mine, so we'll just disagree on Devastator. :)

Ok not gonna lie, although you were sarcastic but I do think this idea is pretty cool. You being able to take out parts from Scrapper (or was it Scrapmetal? jeez the names are so confusing), transform those parts and put them on 2007 Megatron to create ROTF Megs.

Third party hands arrived for Blackout. The hands on the figure as standard were one of the biggest problems I found with the figure but I'm much happier with the figure as a whole now he can do basic gestures and hold some stuff. He wasn't one of my faves but now has earned some bonus points now he can swivel the wrists and has a couple joints in each digit. Only cost £12 including delivery and clip on easy enough so no modding required and they look fine in alt-mode (from the video reviews I've seen as I've never actually bothered to transform Blackout but now I'm likely to play with and pose him more I may do so).

There are many chinese sellers of it on eBay. Was listed as "Shockwave Lab 3D Mass SL-28 Posable hands for Studio Series 08 Blackout"

This was the one I bought from (so can vouch I got it with no problems and arrived in just under 11 days to me in the UK):
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?siteid=0&pub=5574891718&campid=5336631220&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FShockwave-Lab-%20...%20%3Ark%3A1%3Apf%3A0%3C%2Fa%3E%3F

For some reason I couldn't find those items on ebay.co.uk even though the sellers ship to the UK. I found on ebay.com (which I don't have an account on) then changed the .com bit to .co.uk in the address bar and the same page then loaded up fine in the UK site so I could use my account and buy them. :) I had watched a video review of the hands on youtube and thought I'd have a go as the standard hands bugged the hell out of me and the improved KO's were too big and/or too expensive and I just wanted to improve my already owned Blackout. I'm very happy with this purchase. Sorry if it should be in third party forum but as it directly upgrades an official Studio Series product I thought it might be ok to be in here. Apologies if I'm wrong. :michaelbay:

...well, since nothing else seems to be happening, any early predictions/hopes for Toy Fair reveals?
My Expectations: official looks at Hightower, KSI Boss, retail Drift, DotM Prime, BB movie Prime (because he STILL has yet to be properly shown), any other voyager figures if KSI Boss is in the same wave as Long Haul

My Hopes: Jolt, reveals of more of the Constructicons, WW2 Hot Rod, Blitzwing and/or Acid Storm (with Blitzwing having his Earth alt mode while Acid Storm goes full tetrajet)

I thought I had killed this topic. :/

My hopes?
2007 Concept Camaro Bee - Been watching the 2007 film again and I REALLY a new toy of that despite how many Bees are in the line already. It's the most iconic one. I'd like it very much like the MPM version but Studio scale. Obviously would have to simplify a few things for size and durability (but please keep the collar pieces, I like those a lot and no deluxe has them as far as I can recall. Don't even have to be so separated as long as paint is used to make it appear so)
DotM Optimus Prime with trailer
Sentinel Prime
2007 Megatron
Dino/Mirage/whatever
DotM Soundwave (somewhere between the old Deluxe and HA figures would be cool. He's by far my fave Soundwave design in any TF, a small Laserbeak would be cool but not if it eats too much into Soundwave's budget and has them cutting the paint or something)
Shockwave (I was fine with the DotM figure but after seeing some awesome non-transforming figurines of him I'd like another go)
Roadbuster, Topspin and Leadfoot
Sideways
more of the Dinobots
RotF Sideswipe (the new figure looks great but I far prefer the car with the roof, though not sure where that would go in robot mode)
Jolt
Que
Skids & Mudflap

And probably not happen but I'd really like:
A pack of tiny figures including humans such as Sam, Mikaela, Lennon, Cade etc, and small bots like Frenzy, Sqweeks (with Izzy), a human scaled Cogman (with Burton), Laserbeak (if not with Soundwave) and a much smaller 2007 Arcee (probably never happen cos they'll do RotF Arcee and her sisters instead)

I know we've had some mini-figures already coming with larger figures such as Igor (with DotM Megs), Charlie (with that odd choice of Bumblebee), Scorponok (with Blackout) and the mini-Dinos (with Drift) so yeah I'd like more please. I still have RotF Legends Ravage which is nice so not in need of a new one there unless they do something extra nice.

Seiberton.com member Riley Hoffman has informed us that TonTon Review has just published on YouTube their latest Transformers Studio Series video review. This time, it's the upcoming Deluxe Class Cogman as featured in the Transformers: The Last Knight film from 2017. This release in the Studio Series is a repaint of the same mold that was released in 2017 under the "Premier Edition" line accompanying The Last Knight film. TonTon gives the usual overview, covering size comparisons in alternate and robot modes, sculpted and painted details, and conversion from licensed Aston Martin DB11 into robot and back. Perhaps the most interesting part of the video, though, is the direct comparison in robot mode between the new Studio Series version of Cogman and the previous Premier Edition. The Studio Series offering is extensively painted with metallic silver in both vehicle and robot mode, with key details picked out in gold paint. The previous release opts for more muted metal gray tones and black washes to emulate wear and age in robot mode, as seen on screen. Check out the full video below.

What do you think of this upcoming offering from the Studio Series line? Did you miss out on Cogman the first time around? Is the flashy new paint job for the Studio Series release enough to get you to upgrade from your Premiere Edition Cogman? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned to Seibertron.com for the latest news on all things Transformers!

I don't plan on getting him since I'm focusing on the first 3 movies, but I have to say that alt-mode paint job is gorgeous. I really like that you can fit 2 titan masters in the car too, but that's not new from the original mold.

Who else is in Cogman's wave? Shatter, Rampage, and Bumblebee movie Optimus?
