The first two episodes of the Machinima Titans Return series premiered yesterday, picking up where the previous Combiner Wars series left off. We've already broken down Episode 1, and it, surprisingly, was not bad. So now it is time to turn the spotlight to Episode 2, "Our Heroes Respond". Let's just jump right in to it, shall we?

After being welcomed again by the overly-fancy title sequence, we find Windblade where we left her last episode, meditating with the newly reawakened Metroplex.
Transformers News: Re: Machinima Transformers Titans Return Animated Series Discussion Thread
Meditating with Metroplex, coincidentally, is my favorite holistic workout tape

During the mind-meld session, we get the lore of this version of Cybertron built out for us in the form of Metroplex telling Windblade his story and the purpose of the Titans overall. We actually learn quite a bit of useful backstory here, and I think it was executed very well. Not overly exposition-filled, and it succeeded in fleshing out the world quite a bit.
Transformers News: Re: Machinima Transformers Titans Return Animated Series Discussion Thread
Narrationformers! Exposition in Disguise!

They both finally realize Trypticon has also risen, and Metroplex volunteers himself to go and defend Cybertron again after all those years. Windblade is opposed to this, as Metroplex is in no state to go and do battle with another Titan (even though we haven't seen, and won't see, these supposed injuries she mentions).
Transformers News: Re: Machinima Transformers Titans Return Animated Series Discussion Thread
Scrud? Is...is that what she said? Does...does she mean Scrap? I've got nothing.

In trying to find another solution, she again goes to see Perceptor in his lab, who's currently studying some of the samples he's collected from Starscream's corpse. She discusses with him Trypticon returning, and the best course of action to stop him from continuing to tear the city apart. My biggest issue with this scene is just some of the animation feels really clunky. Like Windblade looking around Perceptor's lab looks like a video game cut scene. It just kind of pulls you out of the narrative.

They decide to take their case to the Mistress of Flame who, in turn, sends the "Eilte Air Resistance Squadron" to hold Trypticon off. These, we find out, are the seekers. The pretty much instantly die, which is unfortunate, as it would have been interesting to see them cope with Starscream going AWOL. There was also a chance to have an interesting subplot about how Starscream doesn't really want to kill his former comrades, but whatever piece of Trypticon is still within the shell of the giant titan takes him over and makes him do it. I consider that a missed opportunity.

While this is all happening, the Mistress of Flame discovers that Hot Rod has given up the Matrix when they needed it most, and for the first time so far in the series, we can hear Judd Nelson.
Transformers News: Re: Machinima Transformers Titans Return Animated Series Discussion Thread
Heyyy, that's better!

It's nice to hear the original voice of Roddy return, and I think, while Judd Nelson is obviously older than he was when he originally did the voice for Hot Rod, it still feels the same. He does a great job.

Hot Rod says he'll come and help fight off Trypticon, just as Metroplex starts to move toward the oncoming Kaiju. We do get some nice action scenes here (None with Metroplex and Trypticon yet), and it's pretty much the best part of the episode. Perceptor makes a hint that he will go find Fortress Maximus to help in the battle, which again feels like they're dumping all their material in the first episodes, but we'll see. With a threat like they've never seen before just on the Horizon, Episode 2 ends.

Overall, I think the biggest issue was timing/pacing. There were lines here and there that waited a couple beats too long to be delivered, didn't have the right emotion or movement tied to them, and so on. It's a good episode, certainly better than a lot in Combiner Wars, but it feels underwhelming. It's not good enough to walk away with a sense of "Oh, that was amazing!" and it's not bad enough to be entertainingly so. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather it be the good than bad, but it felt like it just needed to move along a bit quicker. Anyway, that's my take on the (so far) enjoyable first two episodes of the Machinima Titans Return series. I'll be here with another review next Tuesday, when Episode three premiers over on Go90. Thanks for joining me, and thanks for reading Seibertron.com! See you next week!

Lol at the Seekers, did they at least get any lines?

This is better then CW but in the same way it's better to stub your toe then to lose your whole foot, you literately see and hear how much little effort was put in by Hasbro if they funded the show at all, I bet this series only exists in a failed attempt to keep the fan boys satisfied about making the best Adult Transformers show for them.

I try not to point out grammar mistakes online, but this is just hilarious when taken literally and out of context.

Also, what do you think about the characterization of combiners across the whole franchise? Except for the toy bios, I feel that characters like the Stunticons and Aerialbots have kind of just been collective entities.

Okay, got around to watching the episodes.
I was pleasantly surprised that the constructicons and Stormclash made individual appearances, as it means that the combiners are still able to become individuals, though other than Long Haul's "Hey!" I wouldn't bet on any more of them speaking.
It was a little jarring at first hearing Perceptor speak without a British accent, but he turned out to otherwise be the most faithful to his original counterpart. The visible legs on the back of his head lead me to believe we'll see some characters become headmasters. Or Perceptor is just a closet headmaster.
Starscream's scenes were almost entertaining, and while it's neat that they're revisiting Starscream's ghost, I doubt they'll discuss a mutant, immortal spark, nor whoever/whatever was controlling his spiritual journey to Trypticon. I'd bet it will probably be Scorponok.
While I never minded the animation, the voice direction is severely underperforming. Characters do take too long to respond and react to almost anything. Mistress of Flame in particular. I was relieved to find that the Rodimus/Primes scene was not just a problem with my computer's audio. I like Nelson's Hot Rod voice, and though his reasons for declining the Matrix seemed forced, I look forward to more of him.
All in all, not the best start, but I suppose not the worst either. As long as the character dynamics become more cohesive, and the action remains good and fitting with the story, it will be worth it.

Did everybody here just forget that Scrapper, Scavenger, and Long Haul all appeared individually before back in Megatron's debut episode in Combiner Wars? Their reappearance here in episode 1 of Titans Return isn't some revolutionary thing. It's just Machinima recycling the same three Constructicon character models that they had already used before.

True, but CW left it ambiguous if, once combined, the components retained individuality or became bonded permanently. The constructicons' reappearance proves that the individual 'bots are still there (though we'll probably never see them).

Yeah combiners as a whole don't get much characterization, I don't mind for the actual combined forms themselves since I view them more as living weapons then their own individuals although I personally like how some Combiners have different problems compared to others such as Menasor being a complete monster while Computron just takes a long time because he is too smart.

For component most of them suffer from a lack of character hell sometimes some random component gets more character then the leader of the team (First Aid to Hot Spot) (Breakdown to Motormaster) etc.

Still doesn't change my opinion on how much Combiners just..suck in this series and it's kinda ironic that they are getting more "development" in Titans Return then in their own show.

I actually like this a lot more than the Combiner Wars series done, there's still some things I am kind of "meh" about that CW did though that have repercussions here; however, I do consider the run-time being 10 minutes instead of 5 minutes or so to be helping the Titans Return series most. So far it's decent and not completely terrible. I hope it stays good and takes the lessons learned from the CW series to heart still to continue to improve itself. So far it looks like it has in a lot of ways.

True, but they had no dialogue, only communicating with Star wars droid like beeps, so I figured they were little more than mindless drones. Hearing Long Haul actually have a line of dialogue was...something. ;)

slightly OT. BB in Rid15 said it often. In fact several of Will Friedle's characters have random swears:

Bumblebee in Rid15: Scrud
Lion-O in Thundercats 2011: Whiskers

as Batman in Batman Beyond he had several as well...cant think of the top of my head what they were though...heh...

Terry didn't really swear so much as just use future slang like "schway" for "cool".

But it really should not be "Something" it should be the normal thing our expectations went so far down with CW that TR looks better compared to it, Tr isn't good either it's just not as bad as CW was.

It's like people being satisfied that some Robots in the live actions movies have personality when that should be the normal thing.

Another Tuesday rolls around, and with it the next episode in Machinima's Titans Return series! Episdoe 3 has gone live, titled "The Fight Begins", and features a montage of new information for us to look into.

The episode includes, but in no way is limited to, some scenes of Trypticon and Metroplex finally doing battle once more, Hot Rod speeding down the road, the Matrix and its connection to Optimus Prime, the return of a fan favorite Megatron, and a prelude to what is next for the series (after only 3 episodes no less!). You can check out the full episode by following the above link, and stay tuned for a review of the episode from our own series reviewer extraordinaire, Bronzewolf!

Angelina Pax has episode 3 broken into pieces on her Youtube Channel. Just watched it on go90 however. It's getting kind of lame again. The episode didn't really go anywhere. It was nice to see Metroplex & Trypticon brawl, but did everyone forget they have weapons? Missiles, Lasers...anything?

Oh and I'm not sure why there are so many people on youtube going nuts on whoever is voicing Menasor and Computron. They said one and two words respectively. I mean I understand everyone has to start somewhere, but as far as the vocal talent in this show, these two are at the very bottom, and it shows. Perceptor continues to be the only character that has any personality.

"How's the evacuation going" LOL Really? Yeah...all 2 bots in the citadel are still there. I understand sometimes it takes a lot of work to make a city feel populated, but there are some tricks I'm sure experienced animators know to give a feeling of populating an area, without showing all the people. This just feels like generic empty Cybertron we've seen in most other incarnations. Other than the characters onscreen, there's nobody there.

Oh...and I guess the reason why Metroplex & Trypticon didn't fire any of their weapons is because one single missile is all they could afford to animate, and it apparently has the ability to end the world, or not...man that's some missile  .

Honestly I dont mean to be rude but it sounds like you’re just wanting to be critical and find issues.

I thought the episode was fine. It’s fighting that’s all it was with a couple cutaways but good cutaways. Optimus and Megatron continue to be the gems of this series and Optimus extending his hand to Megatron to finally move forward was great and Megatron turning away was great. He’s becoming my favorite Megatron next to IDW.

Menasor is a side character I’m not going to judge a side character for their one line.

As for firepower: metroplex is established as injured. Maybe he can’t access his armory defenses and with trypiticon, starscream is possessing him but he’s acting like a feral beast. He probably doesn’t know how to use his guns and artillery

Just to be clear, I'm not judging the character, or the VA voicing that character. I'm questioning the fans adulation of someone based on pretty much nothing.

Perceptor does have some personality, although for a moment there, i could hear Weasley Crusher come through, especially at the only moment he sounded excited. blahhh

I'd really like to hear more with Hot Rod, since they have Judd Nelson doing the voice here, but they aren't exactly giving him a lot of lines.

I still think she show has potential, I'm just afraid it'll fail at meeting it.

May be too soon but my faith in it is pretty restored. We’re 30 minutes in and it’s mostly been set up. With CW we’d be almost done, like thered be 10 minutes. This is going to be almost 2 hours so I’ve got faith in it.

With a rodimus/hot rod I’d wager he’ll have a much bigger role. His story is just starting and he’s off doing something now. I think the voicing has really improved. The handful of lines from optimus feel like I’m wathcing the cartoon again. It feels like when I played Devastation and I was smiling from ear to ear hearing peter Cullen play G1 Optimus again becuase G1 optimus is much different than movie optimus and Prime/RID Optimus in voice. Both just sounded tired. I hated optimus in Prime becuase he sounded like he just didn’t give a damn about anything when he was talking.

Maybe it’s becuase I’m looking at G1 optimus while he’s speaking and if that’s so than it’s working for me.

Welcome back (and to those just joining, welcome) to another Machinima Titan's Return review! Last week saw the release of the first two episodes of this new series, (you can catch up on my review for those here and here) and this week we finally get the resolution to some of the cliffhanging plot threads left over from last week. Let's get straight to it and take a look at Titan's Return Episode 3!

So, we pick up where we left off in episode 2, with Trypticon in the middle of rampaging through Cybertron and Metroplex coming to meet him. And then, finally, we get the big (literally) fight scene between the two titans. It's actually fairly well done and entertaining to watch. Windblade again tries to get Metroplex to stand down, but he knows he must to defend the city.
Image
Mmmm, hot giant robot-on-giant robot dinosaur action

Thanks to a random bit of purple smoke that comes out of Trypticon's mouth(?), we hear Starscream's voice, and Windblade and Metroplex discover that Starscream is the one controlling Trypticon.
Image
Bluhh, sorry, I had Chipotle

We cut away from the fight for a moment to catch up with Perceptor and the Mistress of Flame, who make contact with Hot Rod. He asks how the evacuation is going, even though we've seen no one but the main cast in this entire city. Hot Rod informs them he'll be arriving shortly to aid with the fight.

We then cut to the Matrix of Leadership, now in the hands of the 13 Primes, who send a message to Optimus Prime. He stops, heeding the sign from the Matrix, and realizes what has happened in the city he's left behind. He travels back to the fight, and then, finally, we get the reappearance of Megatron. He remains the greatest, best-acted character in the entire two series, and the dialogue and exposition between he and Optimus in this scene is really good. He gives us some foreshadowing about the next series, Power of the Primes.
Image
AW YISSSS

But all good things must come to an end, as, like a thief in the night, Megatron leaves as soon as he arrived. He decides not to go with Optimus to save the city, but I'd assume this is not the last we'll see of him through the rest of the series.

While this is all happening, we find the Mistress of Flame and Perceptor trying to contact the combiners on their quest to find Fortress Maximus, which they are unable to do.
Image
"[Trypticon] could want one thing, or everything!" .....What?!?!? What is this writing??

After watching the battle for a few moments more, she sends Perceptor to turn on the castle's defense systems, while she goes to her "Prayer Chamber".

Image
#thoughtsandprayers

Perceptor then makes it to the basilica control room, and turns the defenses on.

Image
Orchestrated by Daft Punk, apparently.

The combiners finally make it to Fortress Maximus and attempt to activate it. We hear Youtuber Matpat in the role of Computron for the first time, and there's kind of a unique, fun dynamic between all the combiners hinted at here. Menasor fires off a missile by accident, with no idea where it will land. With that, episode 3 ends.

Image
It's ya boy, DJ P3rcy P, spinning some fresh hits for ya all night long...

This was, again, a good episode. It was nothing exceptional, but the Metroplex/Trypticon battle scenes were very well done, and makes up for some pacing, timing, and writing issues that are pretty regular in this series so far. I honestly think it's biggest issue currrently is that, even though you had a pretty constant amount of action in this episode, it still feels pretty dull. It just doesn't grab you and make you feel like you're involved or invested in these battles you're seeing. The pacing issues coupled with the wide, steady, far out camera angles I think really detach you from the situation, which is not how you should feel. It just makes everything seem inconsequential, when it really isn't. This is still a huge improvement over the last series, though, because we've move on from being "Oh this is just bad" to actual critique, dissecting the actual occasional flaw that presents itself.

Well, that's it this week. What did you think? Watch the new episode over on Go90, and then come back and tell us in the Energon pub forums below! Happy Thanksgiving to you all if you celebrate it, and I'll see you next Tuesday!

Maybe it's just me, but It didn't exactly sound like Starscream was Controlling Tripticon. I got more of the impression that Starscream was more like a "battery" so to speak, or maybe a key. Like his Spark was used to Activate Tripticon but not allow him to control the Titan.

Simply put, I thought Starscream sounded more like he was in pain, then anything else, but that's just me.

Not too long after the last interview with Peter Cullen about his role as Optimus Prime in Machinima's Titans Return animated series, we have another one with the great man, coming from the LA Times! The questions cover how he first landed the role back in the days of Generation One; the changes to the voice-acting process over time since he started his career; his bond with frequent (though not present in Machinima's series) voice of Megatron, Frank Welker; and even more!

The article doesn't touch too much on Machinima's series specifically, but it nonetheless contains a fair few interesting tidbits about Cullen's role, and his feelings on the current acting environment in animation. Check out a couple excerpts below, and of course read the full interview here! And as always, stick around Seibertron.com for more news and coverage of Machinima's series (like our review of the recently-released third episode) as it happens!

Did you ever think you'd see the Transformers characters as characters in a live-action/CGI movie?
No. Not really — especially after the 1986 [animated] movie because I was killed off. Frankly I didn't pay much attention to the show after that. I may have checked out a few [episodes] while I was doing it, but I had a family of my own. And my kids — my son — was not interested in cartoons and animation. He was a motocross and jet ski guy. He was not a sit-at-home-and-watch-TV kid. So I didn't get any feedback for years!

Your animation nemesis — voice actor Frank Welker — isn't in this latest Transformers iteration, but playing against his Megatron for so many years must have created a special bond.
A great bond. There's something about voiceover actors ... they're really underestimated and taken for granted. When I'm in a room with these talented guys ... they're really talented people and humble people. They're just marvelous people. Judd Nelson, who did Rodimus Prime or Hotrod in the newest series, what a great guy. Sensational human being and great talent. A great intellectual approach to a lot of his characters. And Frank — that's a bond that has lasted decades. It's such a privilege to be in a room with those people.

A lot of voiceover now is done, as you said, on a microphone in someone's home nowadays. Most would imagine that performing in-studio with other actors adds a different tone as opposed to being strictly digital.
The way I would express it would be like if you played on a football team and you weren't in the main locker room getting ready for a game around all the other players. You were just put in a room with your uniform and told to meet up on the field. You're missing 98% of the whole thing. You're missing the team, the camaraderie , the energy, the spirits, the willingness to combine efforts together and produce something good. When you're with a full group, you're inspired. And not only that, but the amount of laughter that ensued was just — you can't describe it. If it was school, we'd all be staying in detention.

Because it is so recognizable, have you ever thought of your voice as a liability in terms of getting other roles?
No. I never use Optimus Prime's voice for anything else. I studied voice, so I know I can get down and [lowers his voice] add the timber. It's just something I was capable of doing and I've never looked back. The voice is an instrument like any other. It's just about how you play it.

so, my son wanted to get caught up so I gave episode 3 a second viewing this afternoon. There was one part I'll admit that intrigued me a bit.

When Op and Megs are conversing and the Requiem Blaster is referenced along with the Enigma of Combination, as powerful ancient relics,...I wonder what this is in reference to? Has the Requiem Blaster ever been mentioned outside of Armada?...maybe it will be a super weapon in PotP?

Also I know this is in some *alternate* OG continuity...but I cant think of any continuity off the top of my head that this would be remotely based on whereby, after Optimus Prime is Resurrected, that Megatron, Starscream, and the original seekers would still be around in the distant future...But I guess that's a good thing. Distancing this from the actual original series as much as possible.

Yes. The Aligned continuity reimagined a terrible weapon of devastating potential called the Requiem Blaster as the personal weapon of Megatronus. The novel trilogy and the Covenant of Primus went into more about it.

Actually they're legitimate questions. go90 isn't available to anyone outside of the US (unless they're using a VPN) and the Tumblr has no controls other than Pause/Play. You can't go full screen or anything. (At least that's how it is in my browser)

when the mistress said she was going to the chamber, I thought "thoughts and prayers" And she was the one who had the gall to consider Perceptor ineffectual because "he's not a warrior". I would consider Perceptor more effective than the mistress - or anyone who locks themselves up in a chamber to pray.

What I'm seeing are people who see the video ads, go "okay this looks neat", and go to the comments to ask where they can watch it.... even though it says right there in the post where they can watch it. Neither service is ideal but the information is right there.

Episode 4 - https://www.go90.com/videos/4H177OeLiXt

Somehow, Overlord sounds really goofy and yet delightfully so at the same time.

Whereas Emissary ends up sounding like a dime store version of Will Friedle.

Well I watched it last night. I guess we can put that Overlord rumor to rest. I give the series makers 1/2 gold star for not revealing all the surprises before the series premiere. I wonder if there are any more to come...? However, the information was leaked on Wikipedia before the series came out (we can say that with confidence now that it was not fans making false entries...) I just wonder where said info came from...?

Wow...Misrtress of Flame can fight?!? It was an Attack of the Clones Yoda moment heh...Too bad she went up against a bot that evidently can really take a beating without flinching.

While this Overlord is closer to IDW than Masterforce #NOTMYOVERLORD, it was still interesting to see. I guess all we can hope for is to see at some point a throw down between Megatron and Overlord.

I guess the missile being "our salvation or our ULTIMATE DOOm" was pretty much...all for nothing  Still it was cool to see the titans finally use some weapons. Starscream is in control, and he knows it, and is happy about that. Metroplex is Cyclops from X-Men evidently.

I'll have to go back and watch the beginning. I saw all the prime symbols in the chamber, but Mistress dialogue was hard to hear over my sons constant rambling (he was excited heh...) But I thought I heard her mentioned Sentinel Prime (?) He's not one of the 13, also being an overall baddy, I'm thinking praying to him wouldn't be such a good thing.

Finally

I knew it was supposed to be Jason David Frank, but my son said the exact same thing (well he said, why does Emissary sound like Bumblebee)...but you get my meaning. Pretty good catch for an 11 year old.

No Windblade in this episode, and some decent Combiner dialogue, plus everything I previously mentioned makes this episode probably the highlight of the series so far. Am I ready to say it's *good* yet...no but at least it's trending in the right direction.

WOAHHH WE'RE HALF WAY THERE, WOAH-OH! LIVIN' ON A PRAYER.

That's right! Somehow we're almost half way through the second Machinima Transformers series, Titans Return. The episode brings new threats, the loss of old freinds, and the appearance of some new ones. So, heat up some Turkey Day leftovers, and let's dive into the fourth episode of Transformers Titans Return!

We open with the Mistress of Flame in her Prayer chamber, where she prays to the original 13 Primes. This scene, again, is sort of teasing the next animated series, Power of the Primes, with the name dropping of the Primes and the use of their symbols on the floor. I'd prefer this method of tying the shows together over throwing it in at the last second like the previous series did with the Titans.

Her meditation is interrupted by who she thinks is Megatron, but is really Overlord, a new addition to the series. It is then we are introduced to one of the biggest issues with this episode...

Image
...SPLIT FRAMES!!!

They're so bizarre and out of place, and haven't been used at all in this show (or the previous show, if memory serves), but are suddenly in every other shot. They're not very well framed, either, with the direction of each section being really confusing and not focused on a specific thing. They're quite distracting and I hope this isn't a running change.

Anyway, back to the plot. Overlord arrives, bringing his extremely goofy voice with him. It's this weird sort of Colonel Sanders/New Orleans accent mix that is just so ridiculous for this character it almost kind of works.

Image
He sounds like he's about to play some ragtime in the steamship down by the Bayou,
or offer the Mistress a 5 dollar Fill-Up

The Mistress tells this new threat he's not supposed to be in the sacred chamber, and then just gets punted across the room. She retrieves her hammer and just starts wailing on him to no avail. It is by far the funniest moment of the series so far, and, matching Overlord's character overall, is just ridiculous and incredible at the same time.

Image
This is the equivalent of that old Cartoon cliche where the bigger character yawns while holding the smaller character back with a hand on their forehead

She finally gets one good hit in, but then returns to the inconsequential wailing. She calls in some security drones, but their shots do nothing. I understand what kind of fight scene they were going for here, sort of a Star Wars-like "Bad-ass new villain character comes in and just dominates other character who makes their final stand against him" scene, but it just doesn't work. Whether that's because I'm unable to take it seriously, or some of the direction, lines of dialogue, and movements are just a beat or two off, I don't know. I think it would have been a more emotional scene had we actually seen the Mistress getting injured. Every time she gets tossed around, she just gets back up, looking good as new. Some damage here or there, some energon dripping our of her mouth, anything like that would have gotten the emotion and tone I think they were trying to convey across.

Overlord tosses the Mistress into the light of the Prayer Chamber, which electrocutes her, and she eventually dies, in a pool of Energon, on the floor.

Image
Ooh, she's smokin' and crispy, just like my Nashville Hot chicken tenders, with 11 herbs and spices!

While this is all going on, it's revealed that the missile launched by Fort Max actually has Emissary inside of it. He jumps off the rocket and takes control of Metroplex, telling the titan he's here to help. Metroplex says he's too late to aid in the battle, but Emissary insists, giving him LASER EYES. No, seriously

Image
All I want is Metroplex with frickin' LASERS coming out of his eyes.

While the battle rages on anew, the combiners are still working to fix up Fort Max. Computron discovers that, while all his weapon systems are functioning, his Transformation cog is destroyed. Victorion decides to fire all weapons systems at Trypticon, even though they have the potential to hurt or kill Metroplex in the process. While the lasers are sill soaring through the air, the episode ends.

This episode was...interesting to say the least. I'd be inclined to call it the worst episode so far, but I honestly don't think it is. I mean, sure, it's goofy and ridiculous, but it at least feels like there's something actually happening. That's a quality that past episodes have been lacking, and I've mentioned that all through-out the reviews. When looking at the episode as a whole, the pacing is by far the best of the series. Everything chugs along, with a satisfying amount of action, conflict, and story. New characters are making their way into the story which is a nice change, as well. Very little felt awkward or unnatural. The split screens were annoying, yes, but they're tolerable. It will be interesting to see where the plot goes from here.

...and that's episode four! Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving, and I'll see you in December following the release of episode 5! Thanks for reading!

That episode was...pretty weird.

Overlord just shows up out of nowhere and casually murders the Mistress of Flame in an action sequence straight out of Dragon Ball Z. Why? Who knows!

We get more Titan fighting, which was fine. I can even buy the laser eyes given that Titan Masters are supposed to provide power ups to their hosts. What I don't get is why Victorion unilaterally decided to potentially destroy Metroplex along with Trypticon. We already know that the combiners are out of communication with anyone else. Why was Victorion so sure that Metroplex was losing the fight if she isn't receiving any updates on it? And why is MENASOR of all bots the voice of reason?

just watched the last two back to back thank to the facebook link you lads steered me in the direction of.

i enjoyed it !

the first was a bit lack lustre but we got some nice snark of megs to prime. its just for a battle between two titans there doesnt seem be be alot of collateral damage going on- plus all they seemed to do half the time was run at each other.

at the very least one of em shouldve fell over crushing a good portion of the surrounding city. i thought at one stage metroplex was gonna do that but ah well.

i did get a laugh out of the combiners dialogue too. particlarly menasors response when asked what he did :D

the second was much better.

an actual decent badass introduction of a new character- overlord. who comes off as the superpowered jerk he is. and we get our first fatality of the series IIRC . plus our first titan master in the form of emmissary.

TBH i dont recall him having the power to do what he did in any bio ive read of the guy- but it IS nice to see them actually implement the notion of them upgrading bots in the show.

i really liked how fort max looked too. though i do wonder just how big cerebros is if he's that central tower !

:D :D :D :D

all in all im liking this alot more than combiner wars.

i dont think

she had a clue if he was losing or not. i think she just saw a way of taking out trypticon and took it. TBH more conscerning to me was the fact this means not only would both titans be taken out- but odds are the very city they were trying to save and everyone in it would be leveled in the fallout too.

i think they were going for a "hiroshima/nagasaki" thing where its a horrible act - but it ends the war/threat.

Ugh. The animation in this series is so slow. It makes me want to fast forward so it can be watched at a normal speed. That split screen thing also was really jarring. Who animated these shows? Did they even play it back after making it?

The Titan battle made the WORST Godzilla movie look like an Oscar winning performance. Emissary coming out of nowhere was unexpected and was probably the only pleasant surprise of that battle.

Overlord coming in was cool and I like his voice, but killing off MoF so easily was lackluster. My complaint about her boring monolithic voice in Combiner Wars is just the same here, so maybe killing her is not a bad thing. Maybe they will make her become Elita One?

The combiners being the personality again instead of the individual bots is lazy IMO. The scenes with them feel like a boring exercise why Combiner Wars wasn't well received in the first place.

I disagree. I'm more inclined to believe, similar to the IDW continuity, the Combiners are the new 'default form' for their parts. As such, it'd make more sense that they'd appear more often in combined form than otherwise. Also, it's quite interesting (in a good way) that the Combiners have more personality than the previous show. That being said...

...ain't it annoying that they've gotten more screentime and personality than the show that was supposed to be centered around them?

This merits mentioning.

This is the first representation of Overlord in western animation. Ever.

I think they did him decently. His voice was kind of hilarious.
