A delightful tedium- The Transformers Animated Lead Designer and Art Director for Transformers the Animated series has updated his blog with more pictures from his desk featuring a bevy of Transformers toy goodness from vintage G1 to modern Universe.

Derrick also mentions some more ideas that he'd like to do, but hasn't had room to pack into the series yet.

"I don't think I intentionally set out to color code my Transformers, I just group the same characters together, and it sort of happens on it's own. I guess I thought everybody's collections looked like that!

I too would love to see Animated Sharkticons and Battle Beasts... Too many characters, not enough episodes!"

For those not familiar, Sharkticons were the executioners of the Quintessons' trials in the original Transformers movie, and Season 3 of the cartoon. They were the 'dumb muscle' so to speak, the enforcers for their weaker masters.

The Battle Beasts are a different thing entirely. Part of the Headmasters series in Japan (called Beastformers) and featured in the episode "Rebellion On Planet Beast", these armored humanoid creatures sided with both Autobots and Decepticons. In the U.S. they were sold without relation to Transformers whatsoever, unlike the Japanese counterparts.

You can add your two cents to 'A Delightful Tedium', and then c'mon back here for more Transformers goodness.

Jim Sorenson, the man behind the recently released Ark Compendium volumes (Character animation models from the various G1 series), has updated his blog Disciples of Boltax with a look at some Art that had to be cut from the Ark Compendium's.

Jim pulls no punches, with the first "cut" page featuring the extended Transformation sequence for Fortress Maximus.

As Jim himself states:
If you've read The Ark I and/or II, you know that the books are pretty packed. We basically used every available surface open to us to try to squeeze in extra models. Well, despite that there was quite a lot we couldn't fit.
We can expect to see more "cut" model sheets in near future.

Jim Sorenson sent a message to us earlier today to let us know about his upcoming IDW project titled "The AllSpark Almanac". You can read Jim's new blog at http://boltax.blogspot.com/. This book can be pre-ordered through Amazon.ca.

Here's what Jim said in his blog today about this project:

"I just got permission from my editor, the always snazzy Denton Tipton, to reveal my next IDW project. Bill Forster and I will be collaborating once again to bring you The AllSpark Almanac, a 208 page volume covering Transformers: Animated.

"This volume will be substantially different than the two Ark books. First of all, the volume will be in glorious full COLOR! (That's 'colour', for my British readers.) Secondly, while character models are still a very important part of the book, the scope is much broader. We'll be including character biographies, episode summaries and more. And perhaps the most important difference of all, while the Ark books were a result of research and archival and restoration, this book is being written with the full cooperation of the current production staff. Marty Isenberg and friend of this blog Derrick Wyatt have both been lending their efforts to make sure that this is as accurate and complete as possible.

"The cover is from Marcello Matere and looks amazing. I look forward to telling you more as we get closer to the release date.

"(A quick note - I know Amazon says that it will be 256 pages. We're correcting this. Don't worry, we'll somehow manage to pack 250 pages worth of material into our 208 pages.)"

All Hail Optimoose!

People who have watched the interviews on Rhino's 2002 DVD release of the G1 Transformers 2.1 box set, may remember voice actor Neil Kaplan talking about screwing around during the recording sessions of Transformers: Robots In Disguise, who voiced Optimus Prime on the series, and turn the character into Optimoose Prime, by speaking the dialogue of Optimus Prime with the voice of classic cartoon character Bullwinkle.

In the years since the interview, Neil Kaplan has often been asked about bringing Optimoose to life. Through the magic of the internet, that day has come. The writer/voice actor, who is currently also involved with the graphic novel I, of the Wolf, has opened a facebook group named All Hail Optimoose!, where the future adventures of the Transformers spoof will be brought to life.

Aside from Kaplan's writing, the artwork for the stories will be provided by acclaimed Welsh artist Simon Williams. Williams has worked on the UK Transformers: Armada comics and the current UK Transformers Movie comics as well as on IDW's Beast Wars Source book.

The following background info has been taken directly from the facebook group page.

"By the way, in the real world his sidekick is William "Bitter" Beaver. Yes, he IS a beaver and YES he is very, very bitter. His saying is "DAM IT!"

In "Life with Optimoose" he and Bitter live in our world. They are both actors, though Optimoose is FAR more successful and beloved. Which of course angers Bitter, as Optimoose started as a bit player on "The Beaver Show." In subsequent years the show was also called "Beaver and Friends", "Beaver and Moose Comedy Hour", "Optimoose and Billy Beaver Show" and finally "Optimoose and Friends."

There agent is Super Agent SIMON WILLIAMS a bit of a snooty priss from the UK. He busts his hump for "Opti" and is, frankly the textbook agent. On the other hand, Simon is more of a "booker" for Bitter. Simon will take the calls for Bitter, but he won't make them.

Bitter - though working - plays bit parts. He is one of the "go to" guys for terrorists, victims, liquor store cashiers. In other words... Bitter is treated just like most other minority actors. In fact, when "A Moose and a Beaver Walk Into a Bar: The Motion Picture" was written by Hollywood Legends Kurtzman and Orci, the role of Beaver was originally written with George Clooney in mind.

In "Optimoose Chronicles" and "The Adventures of Optimoose" things are a LITTLE different. These two "titles" take place in the Optiverse, where ANYTHING is possible.

Optimoose is an intergalactic SuperAgent.

Bitter, is his stumpy sidekick.

Simon? Well, he is Q & M, combined! He gives Optimoose his assignments, but he also designs all of his cool gadgets, weapons and transformations. In the Optiverse, Optimoose can transform into ANYTHING metallic. The one teeny tiny caviot is, the moose head will ALWAYS be there.

Their nemesis???

It's Fanboy/Skele-Fat.

In the real world, fanboy is that always impossible to please perfectionist that claims to be a fan, right before ripping someone or something to shreds. Although he claims to be Optimoose's BIGGEST fan, his goal is to get the world to see that Optimoose is not an ordinary actor.

In the Optiverse... he is Skele-Fat. He is a blob of a man that wears tights and a purple leather straps he hides his face under a skelton mask which barely hides his face, let alone his triple chins. His ego is HUGE and yet, he not only thinks he looks good, but will maim, torture and kill anyone that points out how truly ridiculous he looks.

For those that may not know, Nintendo DS users love the way this great interactive hand held gaming device has great add-ons.

Now out in Japan for some time is the DS VISION. The DS Vision allows the user to watch movies or episodes (like...Pokemon (lots of Pokemon!)) on their DS. The card with videos on them slip into the DS Vision card which inserts into your DS.

Nintendo DS is also now releasing in Japan episodes of Beast Wars returns! Up to 26 episodes (I'm guessing smaller cut of the episodes)are now available for DS Vision users through Nintendo Japan!
