Oodles of Doodles: Update, some new stuff.

Got a great pic of G1 Op or BW Megs? Whether it's 2-D or 3-D it's welcome as is any other form of art outside the custom figure world.

Binaltech Nightbeat

Postby TwV » Thu Nov 24, 2005 9:33 am

I quite like Alex Kingdom's Nightbeat kitbash, so I made a drawing of it.
This time I made an almost straight ink drawing, based on a very loose sketch.

And I have a lot to learn about it, I found out. ;)
There are numerous perspective and alignment issues with it, not to say anything about the pose.. :P
Those arose mainly, because I was concentrating on not messing up the lines and forgot to check the whole picture.

There's a first time for everything, right? ;)

Started to color it in PS, which is also a first. :p

Early WIP of Sentinel Prime.

Postby TwV » Fri Nov 25, 2005 9:07 pm

A member of the TFLive boards asked if a could draw a "badass" Sentinel Prime.

I went for a DW TWW kinda style.

Still an early WIP, but the general shape is there. ;)

I always go to this thread to see the new stuff - but I never reply..

Your progress is shaping up pretty well.

That Sentinel Prime must be finished - Tighten up the lines already, boyo!!

I also like that Peterbilt Prime - very G1. I've always wanted to see Prime as an actual real life cab. Good job!

Keep drawing and keep posting!

Shame on you!

j/k ;)

Thanks for the comments guys.

Don't worry, I will tighten the lines on Sentinel Prime. 8)

He's the reason I haven't finished Alt TV, just yet.
Plus I got sidetracked with writing a comic script.
But at least I'm drawing on a regular basis, now.
Over the last couple of months I've learned more than the last 7 years.

Btw,
does anyone know where I can find tutorials about coloring in Photshop? My skills are in that department are pretty non existent.
I started coloring Nightbeat without having a clue what all the stuff in PS means. Not the smartest move.. :P

I also started the initial design of a extended armor version of Optimus Peterbilt. I think it's possible to clad the entire cab section in trailer based armor, without having to play the LEGO hand. :p

According to some he's the predecessor of Optimus Prime in the Marvel G1 continuity.

Here's some info about the Marvel comic Primes:
http://s90690880.onlinehome.us/jhiaxus/ ... primes.htm

Anyway, it was at a request for someone to draw a badass Sentinel Prime, whe looked a bit like Optimus and Rodimus combined.

According to official G1 chronology, Sentinal Prime is Optimus Prime?s immediate predecessor. According to War Within, Megatron killed Sentiel Prime and ripped him open only to find the Matrix missing. Optimus was chosen as the new Prime, Sentinel?s successor.

I did this quick sketch to relax after a day of (mostly) studying.
(Alt TV and Sentinel Prime will have to wait till after my exams are over.)

I'm still tweaking the design of Brainwave (Smartruck Soundwave :p).
The SWARM weapon system of the Smartruck can now be used to full effect in robot mode aswel.
He's got an M2 .50 cal cannon on his shoulder and smokescreen/teargas grenade launchers in his forearms. (Or their Cybertronian substitutes, of course.)

Still not happy about the feet and I'm doubting the split windshield.
I'll probably go with the Alt Sideswipe feet TFing option - moving the grill out to the sides.
Plus I haven't included the rear seats and doors yet.
I could either mount the doors, coupled with the seat and windshield as backpack kibble, similar to Alt Skids.
Or I could leave the windshield as it is - mount the rear seats on his thighs (just like the HasTak Alt BBee design) and fold the rear doors and partial roof on his back to form a slimmer backpack.

The first option would make for a better (more seamless) car mode, but the big backpack might make it impossible to mount Laserbeak as a jetpack while still looking proper and mechanically viable (due to center of gravity concerns).
I?m still in doubt about this, because I'd like to give Soundwave a flight capability in robot mode, so he could fly along with the Decepticon jets and a jet assisted tank based Megatron.

I made the compilation with Soundblaster instead of Soundwave, because with realistic paint apps Brainwave should be almost a dead ringer for Soundblaster.

P.S.
I've also included a compilation of my earlier Movie Optimus vs. G1 toy Optimus.
Toy pics are again from http://www.Seibertron.com and the PSed Peterbilt 362E is done by JesterJJZ

Last is a rough idea about a fembot Alternaoter based on the Pontiac Solstice.

Very nice designs indeed! Can especially see that Soundblaster working, even though the car doesn't exactly enable a good chest.

As for Prime; I made a design last week that's samiliar to yours (didn't even realize it until I saw your concept  ), but I did the waist section differently. The number plate stays in plate, but splits into three (the outer parts sliding away to become the hipplates) while the center stays in place, and then the waist itself connects to the center numberplate, while the outer parts move with the legs. Here's the links to the design (still a sketch so far though): http://photobucket.com/albums/v708/Ra88/?action=view&current=conceptmovieprime.jpg http://photobucket.com/albums/v708/Ra88/?action=view&current=conceptmovieprimesketch.jpg http://photobucket.com/albums/v708/Ra88/?action=view&current=conceptmovieprimetransformation.jpg

That's pretty cool Ra88.
It's another way of dealing with the bumper.

Reminds me of Milx' Optimus Prime. (On the back of Infiltration #0 in the Uncle Sam pose.)

My idea though was a bit more toy oriented in that the least amount of unatural seems is preferable.
Plus, it helped me bulk up the forearms, who'd other wise be pretty spindly with those wheelarcs.

Soundblaster's chest was guestimation on my part, since I didn't have any reference pics of the rear of the vehicle when I drew it.
I figured it would have a conventional trunk, like the 5 doored Humvee, making it a proper minion storage compartment.

However, it turns out to have a sparewheel (which are gianormous :p) which is semi-recessed in the backside, mounted on a bumper hinged frame.
So, Soundblaster would actually have a wheel for a chest door.
One that opens more or less like the old tapedeck door. ;)

I haven't updated this thread in a while, but then again, I don't have much to show for.
In the meantime though, here are some other ideas I've been working on

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/28970377/
These are further sketches based on this:
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/18360392/
I've been studying the intricacies of the real M1A2 Abrams and I see that I need to modify my design to make it work properly.
However, the neccesary changes won't be too big.

http://www.transformersfanwork.com/foru ... stcount=48

I've some more stuff in the works, but none of that is worth showcasing yet.

I really like the perspective on the behind shot of megatron. You can see major improvement between it and the original pic of that design.

I don't really get the descriptions, and I can't tell from the picture... does the tank turret rotate in tank mode? does the tank turret consist only of his arms? like, is his chest or legs part of it?

Great Megatron design - I really digs it!
Love the way the tank treads are almost like wings/cape.

I would buy a toy of this design..!

Hehe Billy. If only.. ;)

Actually Jim, it's the same basic configuration.
The older pic just has the treads positioned more closely together (due to an extra fold in the top armor).

RavageX-9 wrote:I don't really get the descriptions, and I can't tell from the picture... does the tank turret rotate in tank mode? does the tank turret consist only of his arms? like, is his chest or legs part of it?
The turret can rotate, yes.
Due to the narrower profile (because the tracks are out of the way) it is possible to make the shoulder joints rotate from within the base of the turret, unlike with G2 Megatron.

The arms only consist of the turret, but not all.
The back end of the turret stays on the back, but slides up (below the 'cape') to cover the gaping hole left by the arms.
The chest solely consists out of the frontal armor of the tank.
Infact, the forward part of the tank is nothin more than a shell.
the lower part fold on the chest and the upper part folds back with the tracks.
The legs exstend in a G1 Prime manner. They constitute of the back end of the hull. Essentially the engine bay.

Playing around with a mechanically plausible Optimus design and this WIP is what I have sofar.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29492049/

Partly inspired by EJ Su's Ratchet. ;)

I tried to come up with a bulkier legs design (without using creative license) than my previous Optimus Peterbilt design featured.

The aerodynamic fairing becomes his jetpack and I envisioned him with Optimal Optimus-esque pop-out guns in the fairing parts top the left and right of his head.
The Matrix can be stored inside the bumper (behind the grill).
Afterall, an Infiltration inspired design cannot do without gadgetry. :D

Hope you like it. ;)

The golden character in that image was actually not supposed to be Sentinal Prime. When scrambling to finish the comic, the artist need to add in a scene featuring the passing of the matrix. He didn't have enough time to draw a new page, so he just edited his images to make them relevant. For proof, here is the original image:
