Basically it's a revival of Gundam Seed Astray.. I guess it's a new subseries for that Universe, as all the kits are upgrades of previous Seed suits, and all their model kits are 1/100, so this isn't exactly something small here. They've got decals, something unusual for 1/100s... almost similar to the 1/100 Designer Colour 00 Mobile Suits.

That Purple Astray, named (Mirage Astray), is the 5th Mobile Suit.

The first two were Gale Strike, and Hail Buster.
Image
Image

The two prior to Mirage Astray are Regen Duel and Nix Providence.

Image

And the 6th is going to be Nebula Blitz...

And when I say "this should go away", I mean "My poor poor money".

The Gundam Seed Astray MS designs are very detailed. I love how you can see a lot of the inner frame in some of the designs. Thanks for the info, Blurrz! :D

And your poor, poor money has my sympathies. My budget was on the road to recovery but now it's getting whittled down...but the good thing is that there are so many models, there's no rush for me. I'll just have to worship these awesome models from afar for now. :)

I ordered an 0 Gundam A.C.D., 1/144 HG model, to start off on. It looks like a great model for a beginner like me since the design is so clean. It seems to have great articulation too. I'll leave the MG F91 Harrison kit in storage for when I get better at this. The 0 Gundam looks very cool. It looks like an updated RX-78. I better get a move on watching Gundam 00 to learn more. I'm only on episode 3 of the first season right now. :)

Actually, the 0 Gundam was designed specifically to look like the RX-78-2, and it was the only MS in 00 to be designed by Kunio Okawara. They make it into something of an inside joke later on, but it's actually pretty obscure, and to explain it would require me to spoil a lot of stuff.

Hmm, very interesting! I just love the look of the 0 Gundam. Now I'm going to find more info on the RX-78-2. :)

I'm starting off on Gundam 00 but I'm going back as far as I can in Gundam history after finishing Gundam 00 to get myself up to speed on the large history of Gundam fiction.

The RX-78-2 was the original Gundam. It's usually just called the RX-78, but that refers to a series of Mobile Suits, rather than just the Gundam. It's actually the Gundam that most Gundams are based on, especially "hero" Gundams like the Strike, Wing, and Exia.

Oh...I see now! So the -2 was the original Gundam used by Amuro. The RX-78-2 is so iconic. I haven't watched the original MS Gundam series yet but I've seen its image so much throughout the years.

The amount of Gundam fiction is quite daunting. It'll probably be a few years before I can actually work my way through all the anime and whatever manga I can find. Dang.

Hobbylink Japan just had a sale, and I got my shipment today. I got a Tieren Commander 1/144, First Grade Virtue Gundam 1/144, Trans-Am Exia 1/144, and Ali Al-Saachez's Enact.

Right now though, I'm huntin' and a searchin' for Gundam Wing figures. Specifically the OZ Leo and the Maguanac Corp figurines.

I took advantage of HLJ's sale to snag an MG Gundam F91 Harrison Colors version.

I watched a review for the MG RX-78-2 Version 2.0...good lord, it's such an amazing figure! I know the design of the first Gundam can put off people who prefer more modern designs but the inner frame is amazing and seeing the retro RX-78-2 pull off dynamic poses(the reviewer was able to pose the figure in a forward leaning pose, on its toes!) is quite a sight to behold. For anyone curious about the pose, check out this video on Youtube, it's at the 7 minute mark. Very impressive!

Edit: Is that Char's Zaku II? That looks awesome, especially with the light up eye. :)

My main problem is that with sprues, I never seem to remember which is which. Even with 1/144s, I tend to lose track with what sprues are which, and I have to look at the freaking Letter of each one.

And there's 58 of these.... Good game 00-Raiser. (There should be a race between two people to see who can build it the fastest)

I finally gave in and bought the Master Grade Zaku II version 2 standard version and a gray action base. I can't wait for them to restock Char's Zaku II and the Space type Zaku.
Also I'm thinking of getting myself the Gundam II Titans and the original, all MG.

I think I'll only collect the MG kits as I think they are the perfect size and aren't too expensive, PG would also bee pretty interesting but only the building part of them as I'm not too fund of giant toys especially when they cost so much.

A question, while Gundam Wing was around in Europe and you could buy the model kits I bought myself this fully assembled and incomplete for 50 pence and yes it was this special edition. Now the plastic on this model was pretty sh**ty and it broke pretty fast and the plastic when all soft and gooey when I tried to salvage it with super glue, except for the feet which are still somewhere at my grandmother's house. Now I would like to know if the plastic on this guy is standard for the shiny MG kits or is this just the exception? cos if they're all like that I won't bother with them.

I'm curious about this too. Do the shiny/extra finish type versions of models use the same plastics as the standard kits but just have a glossy finish or do they use an entirely different plastic?

I think one of the things that may play into the fragility of the kit you have, DM, is that it was produced in 1998. My 1996 1/144 models have a fairly fragile feel to the plastic. I'm thinking that more current model kits use somewhat better plastic.

Something else that I've thought of is that the clear plastic parts seem to be more fragile as that's something I've heard about for clear plastics in general like for Transformers toys and in Gundam models like the Blue and Red Astray frame clear models.

Blurrz wrote:So who's building the PG 00-Raiser with me? Baby's packing 58 Runners.

58 runners? Craziness! But then again, it's a PG kit so there are going to be a lot of parts, which will need a lot of runners. I wish I didn't get into Gundam models so late in the game. I really want to get the PG 00-Raiser but I'm such a newbie, I don't deserve to buy one.

The PG 00-Raiser will always be there. Just start off small, learn the tricks of the trade and then you'll be eating up 1/144's, and 1/100's in no time, and next thing you'll know, you'll be an expert like me :P

And yeah DM, Plastic has changed in over a decade, however there are always isolated incidents where parts break, that's just how things are.

Yeah, I'm in no rush to get into the PG zone, as tempting as the kits are. It's kind of like looking at a high end sports car. It looks fantastic but I won't be able to handle the power.

By the time I think I'll feel up to such a model kit level, another PG or two will probably have been produced. Another big obstacle is simply the price!

HG is the way for me for now and then I'll move gradually up to the MG kits and NG 1/100 models. I love how one can do so much with Gundam models. You can simply assemble them with the stickers and decals included. You can do minor paint work. You can paint the whole kit. You can customize. I can now definitely see the appeal of putting together a model kit and having such a wide range of choices available. :D

Speaking of plastics in model kits, I'm a little concerned about the HG 1/144 0 Gundam I ordered. I saw two different Gundam kit reviewers mention weakness of plastic in the elbow components. I hope my kit doesn't experience the same issue.
