The way Hasbro has handled the Transformers Prime characters in the Legacy line made a few fans worried of how they would handle the animated characters, since we know Hasbro will be tackling those in 2023. Well, we have our first look with Legacy Evolution Animated Prowl. While he is very faithful to his Animated self, he does sport a more traditional Generations style head. We also have our first look at the deluxe Junkion motorcyle which can be disassembled, which is the gimmick for the Legacy Evolution line. These images come from Daimchoc reports.

Prowl looks exactly like how I'd imagine he'd be. But I don't need him. Unlike "generations" lugnut, this Prowl doesn't seem to offer any new tricks or anything interesting. He's just straight up the animated character if he was blocky rather than curved. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, though I don't see the need for it.
However, as we get to toys like the Prime toys and Animated toys, the original toys are way closer to the animated models than the G1 toys are compared to G1 character models so we get to this point where a "new" release doesn't really offer much over a reissue. The exception would be for characters that never had proper toys, like Prime Knockout. One heck of a missed opportunity on that one.

As for the Junkion, I am getting STRONG TF Energon vibes from that bot mode design.

That Junkion bike is awesome. I love these new characters and how much personality is put into them

Here comes all the whining and pitching about Prowl. tHatS nOt hoW hE loOkeD. They're not gonna make the seem string bean mf as in the show, all the characters in the show had those weird spindly proportions. And it looked awesome. But this isn't that. This is meant to have all the characters blend in, and he looks awesome! Bike mode looks cool, robot mode looks cool. Not even super clunky looking. And the headsculpt is cool, they blended the styles nicely. Definitely picking this guy up. All the whiners can stick to the original figures. I'm loving that I can have my favorite characters with a more cohesive look. And this is wayyyy better than knockout and Prime arcee. Knock outs robot mode looks like crap. Prime arcee just doesn't have good engineering. I love my wreckers Bulkhead. Armada starscream looks good but toy itself seems underwhelming. And hot shot almost seems too faithful, the blocky arms and flat head/face look straight out of Armada instead of being stylized. Can't please everyone I guess, but I'm excited for more TF:A figures based on this prowl. Shockwave and blitzwing please. Grimlock. Lockdown. Ratchet. Everyone

I still have TFA Prowl, it's an excellent figure. I don't find this Legacy depiction nearly as objectionable as I did with their Prime Bulkhead. Prime Bulkhead literally looked like an Optimus Prime body with Bulkhead's noodle perched on top like a coconut. Legacy Prime Arcee was... a nice try.

But this Legacy Animated Prowl looks good. Sure the head is different, but the alt mode looks well contrived. I hope they don't have a traffic light for a secondary melee weapon!

I looooove me some 'bike 'bots, and these two look fantastic. The Junkion looks hardcore and a great pair with the others.

Now, for Animated Prowl....
This,

This looks so much better than what I expected. Granted I do agree it's probably the "safest" way to do it, but I appreciate it actually looking like the "G1 aesthetic" while not betraying the Wyatt style. Gives me good hopes for more Legacy Animated figures, and another good motorbike for the collection. ;)^

Maybe the new Animated Prowl will also be retooled into a Junkion? Perhaps a female one?

That interests me more than the figure as is. I can see where Hasbro would consider it jarring to have figures in the same assortment done in radically different art styles, but this does leave me pessimistic about the possibilities for forgotten Animated characters finally getting the toys they deserve. Unless, of course, Hasbro revisiting them stirs up enough interest in TF Animated that a 3P starts doing show-accurate toys, as was done for Prime characters starting a couple years ago.

I mean, I like this better than the Legacy Prime characters' toys so far, but this line has me more excited for Junkion army-building than anything else in the coming year.

It won't be since the deal with the Junkions is that they can detach themselves and rearange themselves together or with other bots, which isn't a feature on this prowl. If I had to guess how this could be reused, I'd go for Cybertron Ransack or one of the other decos.

Loving Prowl! I think people were setting their expectations way too high for a line that's all about G1-ifying other universes. Even though he isn't all spindly he's still instantly recognizable as Animated Prowl and in a body that doesn't really suit anyone else since they sculpted in all of the stripes on his arms rather than taking the easy way out and using tampos. I could maybe see this retooled into Armada Sideways, but that's about it. He even has the right weapons (where are people seeing guns?), I think the overall figure is perfect.

Rtron wrote:Arcee was just a premold for Road Rocket, of all things.

Not true, we've seen the design sketches, the RR head was very much an afterthought. If it were the other way around the figure would have started male.

Emerje wrote:He even has the right weapons (where are people seeing guns?), I think the overall figure is perfect.

Probably the rods the handlebars are on, behind the head. Prowl only has those wheel-shuriken, but Armada Sideways has those tailpipe missiles. He was still originally intended as a Ninja-like character, but more as comedy relief with the "little angel vs. little devil" schtick.

I likewise could see a Ransack, at the very least one based off of Animated Ransack, but a Sideways could be managed with this mold too! Though I do agree this seems very much meant to be Prowl.

I had to reorganize my Kingdom/Legacy Beast Wars display. The "main G1" above and the rest below. I'm still missing Inferno and Lio Convoy will be Dragon Megs's opponent.

I love my boneyard!

You know, that would have been neat. And made more use of Crosswise and Rook. The ninja motif also explains why both of his Mini-Con heads ended up looking shady.

Here's the thing, though: Forcing characters from substantially different aesthetics to conform to the G1 look instead of being faithful kinda undercuts the homage; "Okay we'll acknowledge this... but we refuse to really honor its signature look". I'll agree that Animated Prowl is waaay better than what we saw with the Prime cast in 2022, but it's still kind of iffy.

So. Legacy Soundwave is my first time having the SIEGE Soundwave mold. It's a neat design, but I'm definitely noting some issues. One is that they didn't properly check clearance between the + end of Soundwave's shoulder cannon, and the engines. It's not as bad as Kingdom Rodimus' trailer rifle storage (where, in my experience, you have to leave the rifle partly unfolded to close the trailer without the tip snagging) but it's definitely noticeable.
More annoying is the leg panels used for the altmode. Their clearance and/or alignment is also off. They refuse to actually fold down and tab in for robot mode, they spring back out just shy of the slots and don't sit flat against the legs. They also force a bit of a droop in altmode.
Is this an issue on anyone else's copy, and was it present on the SIEGE release?

color me surprised. I honestly expected them to just re-use the arcee mold for prowl. not only that, but this is the another one that I really like how they worked it out. I like it.

I'm long overdue for a rewatch of the show.

My Walmarts keep selling and restocking wave 1, over and over, same with the exclusive Beast line. All this overstock on the top shelf (including stuff further to the left you can't see) from November is gone now.

It's not that these aren't selling and are lingering on the shelves, it's that it's the only wave Walmart ordered (same story with Core class and SS Deluxe class).

If they are going to try capitalising on beast bots in the live action they might revisit beast wars time lines and do prowl as Waspinator, ransack or reverb? Always kinda looked like him.

As Emeje said, it not that they shelfwam. It's because they keep ordering wave 1 over and over for some reason. So I bet for the toys you hate, they will order that wave only ONE time, get instantly sold out, then never to be seen again.

I'm practically done bothering shopping anything in brick and mortar stores. I now preorder everything that I truly want and pay full price. For the less important stuff, those can wait an online sale.
Despite the fact that so many of the things I paid full price for end up being overstocked and on clearance even online, DOTM Guzzle traumatised me with an incurable case of FOMO.

I don't think that's impossible. We got a bit of that from PotP Optimus Primal and his space bus alt mode. Think Animated fans would prefer Waspinator (or Wasp) from the Cliffjumper mold (because it wouldn't be Bumblebee!) thought I think Runabout / Runamuck would be a better mold choice to keep him as a more average height Deluexe.

TM2 Megatron arrived. Holy shit this thing is amazing. I missed getting him as a kid so this is my childhood fulfilled. But better. He looks AMAZING in both modes and has great articulation. He's BIG. This is what a leader should be. I'll take ten of these over every triple changer with unnecessary extra parts or an Optimus Prime with a dinky trailer. More of THIS please Hasbro. This is how your get $55 out of me.

At first glance, TM Dragon Megs looks like a bot with 2 bot modes and zero beast mode. But the transformation is much more complex that I expected once that incredible thing in hand.

We got T-Wrecks out of Beast Megs, not counting the JP X-Over. So a Cryotech Dragon Megs is pretty likely.

Hot Shot and Breakdown arrived today. While Hot Shot is pretty basic and doesn't do much to stand out, he's still a good solid figure and I'm happy enough with him, especially as I never had any toy of Hot Shot when I was a kid. With Breakdown, Menasor is now complete, and while I don't think the Combiner limbs have been handled very well and I don't like how Wildrider and Breakdown are on the back of the legs (I know it's cartoon accurate, but it still looks dumb), I've been having a lot more fun with the Legacy Stunticons and Menasor than I did with anything from Combiner Wars.

Cryotek, yes.
Beast Machines Megatron, sure okay.
Gigatron though, I'm not too sure about based on that specific digibash. There's others out there that are more accurate as they have more purple but still I'm not too sure. I just don't want Gigatron to be THAT neutered when it comes to alt modes.

Speaking of purple though, I'd still much rather see Beast Wars II Galvatron. Take the drill tank out and you have pretty much the same dragon as TM2 Megatron. It makes far more sense than Gigatron to me anyway.

Or maybe even Esmeral to go with Deathsaurus. She doesn't have an official color scheme yet as far as I know or is she just supposed to be the same colors as her husband? I really don't think Hasbro would go for making it the same colors as Deathsaurus. So maybe use the CW Deathsaurus colors for her? Or another color scheme entirely? Sure she's depicted as being very petite/feminine but I think it could work using TM2 Megs. The height different between the two would work in any event.

I also wouldn't want to see Predaking from this either. Maybe Dragonstorm even though it's supposed to be a triple headed dragon. It's just one knight that forms the dragon or something like Steelbane and Skullitron.

Did anyone ever mention an Animated Ratchet in any of the leaks or listings so far? I tried to look back over stuff, but there is so much and spread around. I really dig the Animated Prowl that was just showed off and was thinking of having him be an upgraded G1 Prowl for me(like at end of TFCC Machine Wars comic), although a repaint in the Elite Guard version would be better. Siege Ratchet just isnt doing it for me and I wanted a good Ratchet for a long while. I know the SS86 one is coming, but I think a G1-ified Animated Ratchet would be just what I would want, if it was as good as Prowl is. Ratchet was my fav character on Animated and the best Ratchet(neck and neck with IDW Ratchet).

As others have observed, one of my local Walmarts just put the Velocitron Voyagers on clearance as well. Also they put the Legacy Deluxe Beast Assortment on clearance too. It puzzles me why they kept re ordering that wave (after it initially came and went) as opposed to the standard Deluxe wave 2 or 3 of Legacy.

I know there are many online options, but its still a little crazy to think that now, the only B&M option for U.S. fans to purchase Legacy Mainline Deluxe wave 2 and 3 is Target.

They don't keep reordering the same wave though, all the store does is reorder a SKU and it's up to the Vendor to ship whatever they have stock of. Which apparently was the same wave, and they won't usually get a new wave unless it's in stock at the warehouse.

Yeas, Animated Ratchet is confirmed. It will, however, just be the SS86 with an "Animated" head. Click HERE to see the full report.

Is that the one he meant or is he talking about the crusty old bot from TF Animated?

Not exactly the one I meant. I do love how that video has 1.3 billion views lol

Ans almost two and a quarter millions comments!

Did people even see deluxe wave 2 at Target, I never did?

I only ever saw Deluxe Wave 2 at Best Buy. Well, just Elita-1, But I presume that means the others were there at one point too.

Yep, plenty of pics online of wave 2 deluxes at Target, and even in the "Brag or Cry" thread on this site. I spoke a while back about my extremally frustrating experience getting Wildrider. But for the last month or so, the closest Target to me has had a peg full of 4 Elita-1 not moving.

I just got Dead End from Amazon, because I haven't seen any wave 3 in person yet, but again, others have at Target apparently. (My son *claims* to have seen them at a Target near us last week, but like anyone else, I say "Pics or it didn't happen") My daughter always takes pics for me if she is out somewhere, trying to get the boy to do the same ;) .

I guess I just forgot about those posts, I've never seen Deluxe wave 2 at Target. So far all I've seen of wave 3 is a single Skullgrin at one Target and a lone Crankcase at another.

God I'm loving the hell out of Megatron. Here he is with last year's Kingdom Leader Megatron, representing the same character. Legacy is bigger in both modes, and much smoother and more fun to play with. Kingdom was.... Not great, I felt that even at the time. He's a lateral move from his original figure. Transforming it for these pictures was unpleasant. I'm glad the Legacy figure can address the shortcomings and be such a great toy.

I will say they look good together though.

Maybe tomorrow I'll compare Legacy Megs to my POTP Optimal Optimus. Now if I can just track down a Transmetal 1 Megatron again I'll have the complete set of Beast Wars leaders.

....I took a few days off the site to adjust to my new apartment and job, and I miss the return of Animated?
....A bit rude on that leak timing's behalf, but I guess I'll manage.

Both those bike bots look spectacular, this wave so far seems like nothing but hits. Love the asymmetry on the Junkion (very IDW & Classics reminiscent), and Prowl looks way better than my low-hopes prediction of a Prime Arcee retool. Can't wait to get a better look at them both.

Emerje wrote:Think Animated fans would prefer Waspinator (or Wasp) from the Cliffjumper mold (because it wouldn't be Bumblebee!) thought I think Runabout / Runamuck would be a better mold choice to keep him as a more average height Deluexe.

Emerje
...Bumblebee and Wasp were the smallest Autobots in the show, why would you want either of them at a more average height?
Also after how Prowl came out I would just prefer a new mold be made that those two can share, rather than try to force more uses out of the ER Cliff mold (unless those uses are Glyph and Tap-Out, we still need them).

Cryotek

Really hoping for more of a breakup of colors than this digibash, like the original figure, but I'll take what I can get. I will be annoyed if they deprive Cryotek of his purple just to "help differentiate him" from Megs though, I'm still not over them intentionally screwing Clampdown with that nonsense.

Hero Alpha wrote:Did anyone ever mention an Animated Ratchet in any of the leaks or listings so far?
No tangible leaks of Animated Ratchet thus far, but at the most recent SDCC one of the designers was asked about Animated figures and namedropped Prime, Ratchet, and Lockdown as the Animated designs he most wanted to tackle...and since then we've seen a leaked store listing for Prime and an art rendition of a Junkion with a suspiciously Lockdown-looking alt mode....

Y'know, now that I think about it, if we are getting Lockdown and/or Ratchet, then a mold of the EMP generator will be made that both of them and Prowl can all actually use for the first time, hooray for standardized 5 mm ports.

I think the animated prowl shows a translation to g1 style done far better than they did the prime figures.

It's a Christmas miracle!!!!!!!! While we are very adamant about not checking desperately at Walgreens for transformers exclusives until they have been reported, we are happy to now report that Minerva was found there. Specifically at a California location. We knew this toy was in the US for a long while but Walgreens always puts up their toys later, with this year really pushing it far into the holiday season. But it's been found, that's what matters. So maybe checking your nearby Walgreens might not be a wasted trip anymore. The image of proof of purchase comes from Zombie F Body who posted their find on the TFW2005 board.

Here is a review of the toy if ever you want to see it more in depth.
