Fans and collectors can finally bring home TRANSFORMERS: THE JAPANESE COLLECTION DVD box set from Shout! Factory, in collaboration with Hasbro. This is the rare Japanese trilogy that followed the popular "Generation 1" animated series. Available for the first time in North America, this 13-DVD box set is fully loaded with over 42 hours of entertainment, including all episodes that originally aired from the three Japanese series — Headmasters, Super-God Masterforce and Victory — each with their original Japanese audio tracks, English subtitles, and an art gallery. Pre-order begins now!
TRANSFORMERS: THE JAPANESE COLLECTION – Headmasters -- Optimus Prime lives again, the energy of the Matrix has been released and peace reigns on Cybertron . . . but all that is about to change with the startling arrival of the newest breed of TRANSFORMERS warriors.
TRANSFORMERS: THE JAPANESE COLLECTION – Super-God Masterforce -- Following their victory over the DESTRONS (a/k/a DECEPTICONS) at the end of Headmasters, the CYBERTRONS (AUTOBOTS) depart Earth, leaving behind only a small group to protect the planet from any future menace. But when the powerful DESTRONS return to an unsuspecting planet, the CYBERTRONS must come out of hiding to defend their human friends once again — only this time they’ll be unable to do it on their own!
TRANSFORMERS: THE JAPANESE COLLECTION – Victory -- Victory is the third and final installment of this Japanese trilogy— introduces four new factions to the TRANSFORMERS universe. Each group comes equipped with its own unique power and the ability to combine to form much larger, more powerful TRANSFORMERS, making each and every battle even more epic!

I did preview the first parts of Super God Masterforce and Victory. I'm sure I'll enjoy them, but all the characters and toys are so foreign to me (no puns intended) that it doesn't feel like Transformers to me yet. I don't know if that makes sense or not, lol.
One more thing, ShoutFactory packed this DVD set very strangely. It came in a huge box (2ft X 2ft X 6in) that you probably could have fit 8-10 sets into! They only used one piece of cardboard, and two "airpacks". Luckily it arrived in great shape. I'm not complaining, but it was a weird way to box it up.

Watch them in order, but remember, not every character's/object's name written in the subtitles matches the names spoken by the characters.Galvatron X wrote:Got mine the other day! I've dug right into Headmasters and I'm loving it. I love the sh*t-ton of characters in it! It's a good mix of characters I'm familiar with (from the American cartoon) and new characters I've barely seen in toy form. I'm only up to episode 10, but so far it's really good!

And something to note about Victory, the subtitles refer to the Breastforce by the PC term of "Chestforce". They are still the Breastforce regardless of what the subs say, as the spoken dialogue matters more than what the subs translate it as.

Yeah, I noticed right away that the subtitles aren't 100% correct (Deston vs. Decepticon, Cybertron vs. Autobot, etc) - and there's a bunch of typos too! It kinda bugged me at first, but I don't really notice too much now. I do wish they had been 100% faithful to the original, though. I'm like you, I think the original spoken word(s) trump any subtitle.
Ah cool, Breastforce...I mean Chestforce, lol, is in Victory? I've heard that term many times before, it'll be interesting to finally see it.

That I can get by. It's when they rename certain characters to be named after other different characters just because they share a toy. Like, Fortress is not Cerebros.Galvatron X wrote:Yeah, I noticed right away that the subtitles aren't 100% correct (Deston vs. Decepticon, Cybertron vs. Autobot, etc)
Really? I thought they were gonna fix those.Galvatron X wrote:- and there's a bunch of typos too!
Yay! You should check out this thread.Galvatron X wrote:It kinda bugged me at first, but I don't really notice too much now. I do wish they had been 100% faithful to the original, though. I'm like you, I think the original spoken word(s) trump any subtitle.
Yep. Cursed PC naming. These aren't even gonna be watched by kids anyway. The change, while understandable in a sense, was pointless since, no matter how family-oriented they'll try to pass these off as, they will never be watchable by little children if they aren't in English. Only the die hard fans who are older and (mostly) more mature will be viewing them. No child will have enough of an attention span to sit through hours of something that isn't even in his/her own native language.Galvatron X wrote:Ah cool, Breastforce...I mean Chestforce, lol, is in Victory? Hahaha, I definitely will. I skimmed that before, but it'll probably have a little more impact now that I've actually seen the darn shows, lol.

The cardboard in the package is an envelope with your Fort Max print in it. Thats why the box is so big. Hope you haven't trashed it yet.
