Thanks to Prime vs. Prime, we have a pair of brand new English reviews for the upcoming Studio Series Bonecrusher and Optimus Prime figures to share with you today!

The Bonecrusher and Optimus Prime figures are the first 2019 wave of Voyagers. Bonecrusher comes out rather short in robot mode, somewhat in scale with Prime but definitely short compared to his fellow 2007 Decepticon mates, as Prime vs. Prime points out in his review. While is doesn't appear all that detailed, he does have a nice range of posability in his claw and his legs, and you can get some pretty good range of movement out of him. He features the background of the highway bridge battle from the 2007 movie.

Optimus Prime is a retool of the original Studio Series Prime figure, but now with a more accurate chest and back, brighter colors, and the ability to combine with Jetfire. He also comes with a backdrop featuring his battle with Bonecrusher on the highway bridge.

Check out the reviews below, and let us know what you think of the long awaited update to Bonecrusher and this updated Prime in the comments section below!

Haha, well at least it comes to show that distribution is indeed improving :)
And no problem, was glad to help. I will let you know if I spot Ironhide on Amazon for a decent price.

There's no need for that now. Look what I found earlier this evening on my way home from work!

I also finally found Siege Optimus Prime and Megatron, along with Siege Shockwave! It was a VERY good night! I got all four at that same slightly out of the way on a longer route home Target that has been so good to me these past couple of months. I seriously need to check there more often.

With Studio Series Ironhide now in my possession, and Dropkick and two more Shadow Raiders on the way from Hasbro Toy Shop, I'm all caught up, and I finally feel ready for the 2019 line-up of the Studio Series! :D

Yeah it is strange, have we ever seen Ironhide have the additional Autobot name added to his toys before?

Packing him with Ravage and Laserbeak would break the film specific packaging theme that the Studio Series has. By putting Frenzy with 2007 Megs or with the AllSpark bots keeps with the theme.

Given the the various forms Laserbeak has he could have his own mini boxset

I dunno, they'd have to really break them from the scale the lines going for; especially frenzy as he was minuscule compared to other figures

Frenzy was just big enough to drive Barricade in the 2007 movie, maybe about the size of a tween human, so compared to a deluxe scaled Studio Series figure, Frenzy should be a bit smaller than even a Titan Master figure. That's tiny.

My line of thought I'm using the deluxe size box having Dispensor as the core figure but packaging him with Frenzy, Steering Wheel, Nokia & XBox. similar to the Drift and mini dinobots

Bloody hell I love this figure. He just looks so darn beautiful in this highly detailed, old fogey robotness. Sculpt is great and even the paint ain't bad too.

They fixed almost EVERYTHING that was wrong with the original Studio Series Optimus Prime release! The colors are correct! The chest and abdomen are sculpted correctly! He's a bit taller and scales even better with the other figures in the line. The backpack is screen accurate now. He's got silver paint on the "chromed" parts of the vehicle instead of bare, dark gray plastic! Seriously, why couldn't Hasbro and Takara Tomy have gotten this right THE FIRST TIME? SS-05 is a total waste of time and money now. All it amounts to is an expensive pair of sword accessories for SS-32.

I'm really excited for this new take on movie Optimus Prime from the Studio Series, as you can tell. As soon as I get this, I'll probably sell off the Movie Advanced Voyager Optimus Prime I was still using in my collection due to the first Optimus Studio Release being so underwhelming.

Alright 2007 Megatron needs to be given the Leader Class treatment for Studio Series. I think it will be an injustice to give him the Voyager Class size. A big complain I have with the ROTF Megatron they released for Studio Series is the bloody hollowness of its body and how small it feels (in fact I dislike it because of this reason). 2007 Megatron needs to have this overwhelming feel in terms of scale, he needs to be scary and make you go wow on your first impression of him. Because gosh he was a BEAST and a force not to be taken lightly, and that's why he is my DEFINITE favourite live action Megatron so far. Besides, he is larger than Optimus Prime in the 2007 movie. Also, giving him the Leader Class size treatment allows room for extra attention to details. If you look closely he has a heck lot of details on his mold which is also a reason why I love 2007 Megatron. For Hasbro & Takara to forego the details would be a shame and a disappointment! Although I'm not gonna lie, designing the transformation mechanism for this guy will be a damn tough job.

Yes while Megatron is taller then Prime in movie 1 he's still not "huge" by any means. Blackout is taller then he is.

Yap I know Optimus is crouched a lot in the picture I posted. Here's a more accurate representation. Megatron is 7 feet taller than Optimus Prime. 2007 Megatron is even taller than Blackout, of which I was pretty shocked to be honest with ya!

They are. According to the scale chart Megs is 35' and Prime is 28', it's only a 7' difference. And I'm not sure it's 100% accurate to their heights in the movie itself. But either way, while Megs is taller he's not monstrously so.

Also, those are promotional renders using a pre-final head design for Megatron.
Here's his finalized mug:

I loved that body for Megs, it's my 2nd favorite behind his Knight form. The tanker truck is rad and I have a special personal attachment to the type of truck he turns into. The beaten down Mad Max look really suits him. And his voyager always needed to be bigger, and now he's proper sized and spikier and has a far better cloak system. There really ins't anything I don't like about him yet

Studio Series RotF Megatron is one of the BIGGEST Voyager Class figures in the line, though. Even with the newly "embiggened" SS-32 Optimus Prime, SS-13 Megatron is still much taller than him, putting them at a pretty accurate on-screen scale with one another. I think a Leader Class 2007 Megatron would be a bit too big, unless it's a smaller sized Leader and compacts a lot in robot mode. I can see the Leader Class being a good way to get the alt mode right, though, especially with the wings.

Well remember, leader class is also parts count, '07 megs has no wings, so a lot of that mass is gonna have to panel-form into parts of his body some how, so he could be another small/high parts count leader figures, if I remember correctly he's 38 feet tall with o/p being about 28/30 feet; I think his feet could easily form his tail, and the arms would naturally form his prongs, I think they could use the tlk voyager transformation to turn his wings inot part of his legs and part of his body :-?

This figure's pretty awesome. I already loved SS05 but the torso on this one really does improve things a lot. Some comparison shots below (though my SS05 has had paint and Toyhax stickers added to it and I'll do the same with this Prime when I get new paint and Toyhax do an updated sticker sheet which should have more constrasting red/blue to match the brighter colours of the plastic)

I'll do the combination later when I have more time.

Quick review
Pros:
Still has much of the playability and posability of SS05
Hugely upgrade torso and more accurate backpack so much more pleasing aesthetic overall
Brighter contrasting colours
Nice gun
Bit taller
Combines with Jetfire.

Cons:
Leg panels which folded over the lowest wheels on SS05 no longer do socos where the joint used to be is now a port (I presume for Jetfire)
Forearm panels now slightly overlap the fists at the sides. Not a big deal but it's something that annoys me on a lot of figures where kibble hides the hands from certain angles. It's not too bad here but compared to the much cleaner way on SS05 it's a lil disappointing. You have to pull the panel away a bit to fit the SS05 swords into the fists here because of it but yeah it's ok.
Isn't quuuuiiite as articulated as SS05 (it's really not hugely noticable but in one of my pics you can see SS05 can bend and lift his knee a bit more
Still no robot mode flames. I know Hasbro keeps skipping on that and leaving it up to Toyhax to provide stickers but I was so happy with the amount of painted detail on Jetfire it's a lil disappointing to still not even just do the torso doors on Prime.
The ports on the shoulder pads are a lil messy looking to me compared to the more accurate smoother shoulders of SS05. Yeah it's for Jetfire but still. By the way the SS05 swords can tab in those if you want. It's a bit silly and not at all movie accurate but eh it's there. Kinda makes him look a bit insect-like. :P
Truck mode is slightly worse at bottom of the sides.

Overall the pros vastly outweigh the cons (the cons just look bigger cos I went into more detail about why I don't like them)

I mentioned this a couple pages ago, like DotM Megs, '07 Megs has a very large alt mode thanks to his length and wide wing span that would make him impossible as a Voyager even if he unfolds a lot.

Jetpower Optimus Prime. Pretty darn cool. I like that the parts of Jetfire that separate are really tight connectors so they don't come apart easily when you're transforming just him. I stuck mostly to the instructions but also used online pics for reference when improving the jetpack and making the BFG that the instructions don't even bother with.

Gah, bugs me that in the pic with Ironhide, Prime's torso has ever so slightly come up from the hips (you can just about see the connector piece between them both). Don't ya just hate when you've taken pics of your Transformer figures and then afterwards you see a mistransformed part? Grrr.

I'm going to have to disagree here.

He's not that big a plane, most of his mass is in the "engine", the wings aren't that long and are hollow, the "cockpit" piece isn't that long and his arms don't even Transform really.

Plus the jet mode isn't that big compared to Optimus in the film just like how his bot mode while taller doesn't really dwarf him by a large margin.

So I think a voyager can work.

I still don't get what the point of the extra Prime ab piece that comes with Jetfire is for. Cos the parts of Jetfire that connect to it connect just fine to the one that's on him. Unless it's for the Dark of the Moon version in which I suppose won't have those connectors cos the ab piece is different... oh that's probably it then. Which means we can probably swap the ab piece from the DotM figure onto SS32 if wanted? Also the piece with Jetfire is a metallic painted red (the part on the SS32 is plastic red) so does that mean DotM Prime will be metallic red too? Premium paintjob for a Leader Class price point figure? :O

It's a really fun couple of toys that combine into another really fun figure.
(and damn I wish I had a girlfriend who bought me Transformers figures... or ya know, i just wish i had a girlfriend) :P

Oh if you want the swords you need SS05 (i love how the metal and the orange blade colour scheme go with the overall look of Jetpower Prime). Maybe someone will sell their figure cheap on eBay...but they might keep the swords themselves... I dunno. maybe there will be third party versions like how the gun had been made already for SS05 by Dr Wu who also did hooks and an axe for it too.

Edit: searching ebay... it's hard to find him when his name is in the title of the movie and most of the figures from it have 'Revenge of the Fallen' in their listing title!!! This may take longer than I expected. :P

We all let out a woeful sigh when we found out about the issue on Studio Series 01 Deluxe Class Bumblebee, that the roof piece constantly falls due to a lack of a pin, stopping the toy from having a seamless transformation... but wait, there's hope! Studio Series 27 Deluxe Class Bumblebee, which is a redeco of the 01 Deluxe Class figure, but with some different paint applications and damage in car mode, indeed has the pin. We get this from the two English reviews below, the first of which was made and sent in by Seibertronian PrimeVsPrime, whose videos you've probably seen on this site. The second is from chefatron, who you have also probably have seen on this site!

The pin seems to greatly improve transformation, and will hopefully make buyers of the original toy less frustrated (IF they decide to buy this one anyway).

So, thoughts? Tell us if you would pick up this new figure and do... what to your old figure!

Well, in fairness they're supposed to look ugly. Bee's '70s Camaro mode was not exactly a pretty sight on the surface in the first movie. Chipped paint, dirt, patches of rust all over it including a big one on the roof just like on that toy.

It was just a few days ago that we saw some new shots of Studio Series 40 Decepticon Shatter, from the new Bumblebee movie. Now we have quite a treat for all you Seibertronians! TonTon of YouTube brings us a video review of this Wave 6 Deluxe Class figure, due out later this year! The review is in English, though it is a translation, and the narration is done by a computer-generated voice. Ton Ton shows off the coversion of Shatter from 1971 Plymouth GTX muscle car to robot and back again! Also included are some size comparisons in vehicle mode to SS-01 Deluxe Bumblebee, SS-32 Voyager Optimus Prime, and SS-35 Leader Jetfire, as well as robot mode comparisons to SS-18 Deluxe Bumblebee, SS-13 Voyager Megatron, and SS-07 Leader Grimlock. TonTon also describes the sculpting and molded details in robot mode and shows off some of the articulation the figure can achieve for dynamic poses on your display shelves. Interestingly, it seems that Shatter doesn't come with any extra accessories, though she does have a pair of guns sculpted onto her forearms. Take a look for yourself in the YouTube video below!

What do you think of Dropkick's partner in crime from the Bumblebee movie? Will you be adding her to your collection? Or are you waiting for a jet mode version of Shatter? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned to Seibertron.com for the latest news on all things Transformers!

I rarely mind much of a backpack, but the extent of Bumblebee's (both Camaro and VW SS versions) is just horrible. This one looks to emulate it, although it works a tiny bit better for the character as she has that "wester duster" style look with the angular pieces hanging down. The alt mode looks amazing though - probably my favorite of the deluxe vehicles so far. I'll get her though - SS is on a run for me.

Hey, it takes time to push a redesign through production! [-(

Not to be a troll, but now I'm gonna wait for reports of the clear plastic hinges breaking :-P

I was put off of Shatter when those first in hand images popped up, but this video convinced me that she's worth getting. I guess this year, I'll be getting Shatter, SS38 Bee Prime, and Barricade. Don't think I have the encouragement for the others, though I would pick up Blitzwing if he gets done and done good with little to no faux parts.

That masked head really sucks. I was gonna get her based on the car mode and thankfully plane-kibble free robot even though I didn't care for the film much but that rather bland crappy head instead of the highly detailed face one she has in the film? I'll wait for clearance before considering buying it.

ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Well, in fairness they're supposed to look ugly. Bee's '70s Camaro mode was not exactly a pretty sight on the surface in the first movie. Chipped paint, dirt, patches of rust all over it including a big one on the roof just like on that toy.
Yeah, but the ugliness of this Clunker Bumblebee's deco is the wrong kind of ugly. In the movie, his car mode looks old and worn out. The particular shade and degree of application for the brown on this toy instead makes it look less rusty and dingy and more nasty and mud-splattered (or splattered in some other brown-colored substance  ).

Quick comparison of these two cos I was asked to: Battle Blades/Revenge Optimus Prime (figure on right) is technically more accurate to the CGI model, certainly in transformation of the chest windows & legs but the arms are a total mess, the feet are tiny...And also mine is a very fiddly figure (the (red wheel rim section on the back keeps flopping off at the slightest touch) and the proportions are a bit off. The Studio Series figure has a lot more play value, better proportions and poses more naturally too. So in robot mode I truly think Studio Series 32 Optimus Prime is vastly superior. If we're talking truck mode though... well... BB/Revenge Prime has a superb truck mode with a lot of accurate parts (like proper tall smokestacks) the Studio Series figure doesn't.
It also hides the feet completely (but at the cost of them being so tiny) whereas the SS figure's feet are quite visible on the bed of the truck upside down and flat but still noticable. So basically if you want a great truck BB/Revenge wins, a fun playable robot figure? SS32!

I always value the robot figure over the alt-mode (in some cases I couldn't care less about the alt-mode whether it's cos of the character or the figure itself) because I'm more about wanting the robot character than a toy car/plane/whatever. Nice alt-mode is usually a bonus. :)

Seibertron.com member PrimeVsPrime has published our first English language review of the upcoming Studio Series SS-34 Dark of the Moon Leader Megatron on his YouTube channel! We had reported on a Chinese language review by Kevin Liu previously. This review by PrimeVsPrime showcases the converstion of Megatron from robot mode to vehicle mode, a licensed Mack M915 Line-Haul Replacement Tractor. PrimeVsPrime also shows off some of the articulation in robot mode and provides us with plenty of comparisons to other Studio Series figures in robot mode (SS-32 Voyager Optimus Prime, SS-31 Voyager Battle Damaged Megatron, SS-08 Leader Blackout, and SS-35 Leader Jetfire). We also get some nice comparisons with other Studio Series vehicle modes, in particular, SS-32 Voyager Optimus Prime and SS-29 Deluxe Sideswipe. Watch the review for yourself below.

Speaking of Studio Series 35 Leader Jetfire, PrimeVsPrime has also uploaded of that highly anticipated figure to his YouTube channel. You may recall that we newsed a video review recently by TonTon of YouTube. PrimeVsPrime's review features English language narration, whereas the TonTon review is almost strictly visual and without narration of any kind. The PrimeVsPrime video is available below for your curiosity.

What do you think of the first two new Leader Class figures for the Studio Series of 2019? Are they worth your purchase? Is the focus on screen-accurate robot mode scale paying off for this new joint venture of Hasbro and Takara Tomy?
