Was looking forward to a new direction. But this sounds like more of the same problems that plagued the last 3 films. I love the TF movies in spite of their flaws, but was hoping for a truly new direction at this point. I knew Michael Bay was onboard but was hoping that he'd know to get away from the problems of the first 3 films.

Demographics and ASSUMED audience demand. With Shia the first time around, he wanted the audience to relate to the protag.
I don't know; maybe he thinks since ass-kicking hot chicks are popular among the anime/manga crowd (many of whom might also be TF fans), the new protag should be a high school girl.
OR, he just wanted to save on budget, and instead of hiring a lead actor and an obligatory piece of female eye candy, he'd just kill two birds with one stone.
The redneck BF is most likely just for comic relief.
Just theories, though.
P.S. I'm also pissed off that he didn't have a NEST agent star in TF4. I'm as tired of this high school alien-contact BS as you are.
You nailed it. Another commercialized pos with with the target market of core fans being far out of sight. The first bit of news, rumour or not, should have been about the Transformers themselves...

Calm down. This is just a rumor. An uncited rumor at that.

Just keep in mind that this is just a rumor at this point with according to the website, no real merit. Still a chance there could be a different direction taken.
Either way i don't think were going to get away from the boy girl love enterest. one way or another its going to make its way into the next few films. Thats just what the yound demographic demands now-a-days unfortunutly.

I've kept that in mind as well as the fact that I've been covering "news" and information about the live action Transformers films for almost 10 years. Hard to believe, huh? 2003 was the first time that we reported news about one of the live action Transformers films. What I've kept in mind is that I've often been disappointed after holding on to hope for certain things that the fanboy in me wants to see on the big screen.
This time around, I'm going to keep my expectations in check and will hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

They're all just that awful and hollow.
Hopefully whenever Bay quits there'll be a reboot years later by someone who doesn't make a jumbled laughingstock of the franchise.

Maybe we'll see some cool space battles like in the Star Wars series, or the humans will be in only the 1st half or something...?
Anyone else but me remember the "leaked" script to Transformers 3, with them going into space and much G1 goodness?
That's what people want. That's what would have skyrocketed Transformers into overdrive.
It's profitable right now, but the movies are just ass.

No, that's what a group of fans want.
Given how successful the movies have been, I think it's obvious that "the people" got what they wanted.

You're asking a lot from Michael Bay. He is one trick pony. The problems in the first three movies are in every Michael Bay movie. It's exactly why I refuse to give this movie a chance.

I'm not even sure "the people" know what they want. The theory that you can't want what you don't realize is possible is coming to mind. Experience tells me that the kind of garbage Michael Bay makes is what people expect, demonstrating lowered expectations by "the people" more than a true desire for this kind of movie.
In other words, I think they got what they expected and confused it with what they wanted.

Micheal already said in a behind the scenes feature on the first film that "If I want to paint a house green and other people tell me No! Don't do that, I'm gonna do it because its what I want."
I was excited at first when there where rumours that the fourth TF outing would be a reboot, sadly Mr. Bay came back to ruin alot of our hopes for a 'true' TF live action film. More garbage headed our way

The casting call also confirms that TF4 will take place after the events in DOTM and that Peter Cullen and Glen Morshower will reprise their roles from the previous trilogy.
"Transformers 4" will begin filming in April or May 2012.
AB Media Publishing, LLC
Di Bonaventura Pictures and DreamWorks SKG in association with Hasbro are in development on the Paramount Pictures science fiction action film "Transformers 4". The casting directors are auditioning actors for the new lead roles in the film, as neither Shia LaBeouf or Rosie Huntington-Whiteley are returning. The female lead role is an 18 year old or above who can play high school senior age, and the male lead is an early twenties Texas race car driver who plays the female lead's boyfriend. Shooting will take place in various locations beginning in April or May of 2013. This film is currently being referred to as "Untitled Transformers Sequel".
Directors Guild of America DGA Award winner Michael Bay will return to direct his fourth installment of the film series from a screenplay written by Ehren Kruger, who also wrote "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "Transformers: Dark of the Moon". Bay has said that this will be his final installment in the franchise, however Hasbro has stated that they would like to continue making additional Transformers films with or without Michael Bay. Writer Ehren Kruger's other credits include "Arlington Road," "Scream 3 & 4," "The Ring," "The Skeleton Key," and "The Brothers Grimm".
Three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg will again executive produce, along with Mark Vahradian for Di Bonaventura Pictures, and Brian Goldner for Hasbro. Producers are Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto, and Academy Award nominee Ian Bryce. Spielberg and Bryce have collaborated on other films including "Saving Private Ryan," for which they both won Golden Globe Awards. Bryce also worked as assistant director on the Spielberg directed film "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", and production manager on Spielberg's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". More recently Bryce and Michael Bay both produced the Paramount Pictures feature film "Pain & Gain", on which Bay also directed.
There has been some speculation that "Transformers 4" and "Transformers 5" will be shot back-to-back with Michael Bay at the helm, however there has been no official confirmation of this. Hasbro CEO announced at the company’s third quarter earnings conference that they were actively discussing this strategy with Paramount, director Michael Bay and producer Steven Spielberg. Glenn Morshower, who appeared as General Morshower in the first three "Transformers" films stated that Bay and Spielberg were not only working on "Transformers 4", but more than likely "Transformers 5" as well. "Transformers 4" is scheduled to hit theaters on June 27, 2014.

I'd be cool with it, if it meant this was going to take off with Optimus + Wreckers = Wreckers + Optimus, and have Springer, Magnus, Kup and Whirl show up to take on Dreadwing, Bludgeon and Thunderwing. To fight for Cybertron's remnants only to end the movie with the arrival of the Chaos Bringer.
But I'm sure it will end up being a ten sex, angst, fart humors, robot testicled, steereotypical nightware DX bayexplosive robot jerk fest.
But still have no actual story that matches up, with anything, that has ever been written, or even match the other movies, even though this continues the story...

Yeah, we need to take the hate away from our fellow fans, and keep it on Bay where it belongs.
My dislike for the movies and toylines aside, I still know they pumped life into the franchise and kept the TF line going strong... so we could see the sidelines like (the amazing) Classics and FOC (and I actually like PowerCore as well... much fun.)
So somewhere in the back of my head, I know all that relentless barrage of horrible Bumblebee repaints sold to little kids helped fund the bots I'm buying.
So that tip of the hat extends to fellow fans like MegatronWolf. They're collecting movie stuff keeps the classics, FOC, masterpiece toys coming.

Actually, Classics was released in 2006, before the films. And before the Bumblebee Bombard.
and FOC (and I actually like PowerCore as well... much fun.)
FOC is a part of Generations, which is a successor to Classics.

I agree, it's total nonsense to say that the ones saw it in theaters are stupid ignorant homeless people. I'm a first class transformers fan and I've seen it 3 times in cinemas.
I've enjoyed the 3 movies, 2 did have horrible moments and overall it doesn't come close to what High Moon did in FOC.
Still, whatever movie Mr. Bay ships out, I'll watch it, and probably 2 times more and buy the blu ray as soon as it hits ebay. And I'll buy all the onscreen figures, unless they cost 100 bucks (I hate you DOTM deluxe leadfoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
