Same as ROTF Leader Class Optimus Prime, this new Voyager version will be closer to Optimus Prime in the live-action movie.

They trally need to stop making more versions of voyager Prime and just give us a Leader Blackout/Grindor.

Anyway, this is looking great.
The grey bumper is a bit odd, but I guess I'll just have to paint mine.

MR Optimus Prime wrote:Not impressed? Its a VOYAGER of that complex as all hell movie Prime. It has the swords and GUNS !!! It might be a tad off, but impressive at that size. Applause on the vehicle mode and weapons Hasbro!!!
Nope. Not impressed.
I like the guns, I like the Matrix, I like the swords, and I like that all of these features are included in one figure, but the figure itself just doesn't win me over. Not in the slightest.
And it makes me mad that HasTakTom couldn't do this with the Leader Class.
We now have proof that they're capable of such things, why don't they do it?
To some extent, it's to make money, no doubt about that.

I think he will. Grindor is a short voyager and Prime is probably going to be quite tall. When you watch the forest fight scene you can see that Prime comes up to his chest.

People are saying "why can't they do that on the leader" and saying the new delux BB should have been what they released first. Haven't we ever done something and later thought later that we could have done a better job now? They made a huge step up in complexity of toy engineering when the first movie came out. They're still making gains and learning from what they are doing. This voyager makes me wonder even more than ever how the leader Prime for TF3 will look!

I'm not going to lie; I dislike leader class toys. Why? Because I don't like electronic gimmicks, and the price tag that they bring. So this Version of Optimus is pure win in my books.
That being said, now I'm kicking myself for picking up the first ROTF repaint of the old Voyager Prime mold, as I certainly would have waited for this guy if I knew he was coming. Ah well, at least I got the old one at half price...
For those who have seen this toy (or pictures of it) and own the ROTF Leader Class Prime, does this Voyager version have more back kibble, or is it about the same?
Thanks.

yes, the jetfire parts were jap onry, and combined with the origional voyager prime mold. though it would be interesting to see if they could be made to fit this mold

I'm with Mykltron on this. I see this as a good thing as at least it's an advancement of TF toy design. I'd rather see a new and improved Voyager mold rather than yet another re-use of the original OP Voyager mold.
I have the previous Voyager OP mold and while it's a nice toy, this new mold looks much more accurate to the CG model and has some nice bells and whistles like the guns, blades, and Matrix.

On the one hand, yes, it's very well designed, they did pack in a lot of features, details, and a nice transformation.
On the other hand, it seems to be at the expense of paint apps, much like Battle Blades Bumblebee. The difference being Bumblebee still manages to look good regardless. It's almost the opposite of the premium line. What's the point of all that nice molded-in detail if you can't even see it because none of it's painted? This Prime doesn't even have painted headlights, for crying out loud.
I'm also not a fan of buying versions of the same character over and over again. That's why I didn't buy a single Bumblebee from the ROTF line. I already have the first movie Concept Camaro. When I find one version that's good enough, I stick with it. ROTF Leader Prime still fills that spot as the most impressive and detailed movie Prime I can afford. This one, while it has nice gimmicks, is definitely a pass. The matrix is probably the coolest feature, but it's not worth picking up just for that.
Anyway, I'm not complaining that they made it or anything. For people that have yet to pick up a Voyager Prime, or kids whose parents won't/can't get them the leader version, it's pretty cool. But it's not for me. If I don't like it, I just don't buy it.

In regards to your question about the kibble, here is a bit of a comparison.
Check it out...
From these pictures, it seems to me that while the side panels on voyager Prime are larger, the back wheel covers on the him seem to fold better towards his body than the leader Prime. It seems like voyager wins.
Hopefully that helps...
On another note, about that comment on the leader class figures, I just have one thing to say. The upcoming leader class Starscream is noteworthy figure-wise. As for the voice gimmick so far... not so much.

I dunno. It's a close call. There'll probably be debates later about which is better and it'll be subjective.
Evil_the_Nub wrote:It looks to me that the voyager has a lot more back kibble than the leader. The wheel covers are mistransformed of those pics of the leader, they fold in closer than that.
Yeah, they're not pegged in. They should point in towards the middle.

I'm with Mykltron on this.
Dude, that could go without saying as we seem to agree on everything but thanks for the support! We should just go ahead and get a spark of combination, we'd be an awesome team!

Thanks for the pics, those were very helpful!
My dislike for electronic gimmicks probably stems from my old Armada Jetfire. I swear, a butterfly farting would trigger either his "pew-pew" sound or his countdown... It just got really annoying. I know most probably aren't on a hair trigger as such, but still, I try to avoid them.
I'm very intruiged by this Optimus figure. On one hand, I already own a Voyager OP, and I typically don't like owning two versions of the same character or toy (with some exceptions). I also rather like the old Voyager's Alt-mode, as I think it's a better looking truck (I really like the slightly angled sleeper roof; most of the trucks that come into my workplace are in this style). As for the older versions Bot-mode, I like to think of it as a more heavily armoured version of OP, something that he would swap to when going into an extremely dangerous situation. The back kibble did kinda bother me, but now I think of it as his "space-marine" style power pack, and that helps.
On the other hand, the newer Voyager OP screams "movie accurate" which is something that I really, really like about it. The toy looks much more poseable, the feet seem able to be angled and thus provide a more sturdy base for posing, and he has two guns AND two blades. While he certainly can't hold a candle to, say, Buster Prime with the fancy paint-apps, this does look like a great economical alternative for the average joe with limited hobby funds.
My final verdict is this: If I didn't already own a Voyager Prime, then I would buy the new one in a heartbeat. If I had any painting/mod skills whatsoever, I would buy this new one and re-paint my old one as Ultra Magnus. If I see the new one in a store and I lose the battle of willpower, I will probably buy it, but then I will have to suffer the questioning of my Wife:
"You bought another Optimus Prime? Why?".
(I should mention, that to my wife, all Transformers look the same. That's right, all of them. At least, if they are red and blue, they look like Optimus. So trying to explain the increased movie-accuracy of this new Optimus and how that makes it better than the old one would be like trying to explain colour to a blind person. I'm serious.)
