It seems there have been a few random spots of stores doing this of late, but no receipts have been shown yet which is why this is a rumor.
Now if you all went out to your K-mart after the last rumored Animated find there, and found zilch like me, you probably will not go out of your way this time, but we just want to keep you guys informed of what is possibly going on around you...
You can view the origination of this rumor at a thread over at tformers, but as I said there is no visual proof that I was able to uncover.

I'm sure a few stores put out product before the release date. I've seen that alot with SW Target exclusives - one store will put up the endcap one day and another store will say they cannot till a specific day. Even the recent TF Allspark exclusives, I found one set using the DCPI # and then tried another store that said they did not have any.
I know. Everytime I go to K-Mart I feel this terrible dread. Poor poor K-Mart.

You are correct. KMart went through bankruptcy about 5-6 years ago and cancelled their old stock. The fast and quick story is that after emerging from bankruptcy and paying their creditors pennnies on the debt that they owed they sold a ton of their stores to other companies like Home Depot. The one thing KMart did back in the day was buy many of their physical properties rather than lease them, so they had a TON of cash from the sale of these stores. With much of this money they bought Sears. I have actually seen some improvements to my local stores, but still try not to shop there.
Funny link on one of the stores that they sold to Home Depot where there is still a legal battle with the city http://www.no2homedepot.com. Those folks are sure mad that their KMart got closed and is being replaced with a HD.
