The head flap, behind his head. Its red, nothing a little paint wont fix and hardly a major issue.

1. G1's cartoon was not an anime.Rated X wrote:The comic book head looks dumb. It's basically Prime with a mouth. They should have made it G1 anime style.
2. This is not Cartoon Orion Pax. Get over it.
Same with the Hasbro version.Ravage XK wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Looks blue (w/ a silver face) to me.Ravage XK wrote:Its not blue!!

Both are done beautifully. I really want that Megatron... no wait, I want Dreadwing more than I want Megatron. Dammit.
I have zero problems with Orion Pax. The shininess is strong with him.

I just bought the new Legends Optimus. I would love to get this Megatron to pair these Don Figueroa/IDW redesign figures.

Hehe, the shininess is calling me too . I was going to skip these molds initially, however these pics have convinced me that it won't be that easy. I'll likely give in to Takara's paint powers and put in preorders after all (once they become available that is).

So the G1 cartoon is not American made anime style ? That’s news to me. People generally consider The Headmasters, Supergod Masterforce, and Victory anime. I would think the similar style of drawing puts the American versions in the anime class as well. Theyre all the same drawing style, same characters. I guess if the humans don’t look like elves with huge hairdos, some people wont consider it true anime. Just my opinion.
Optimus with a mouth just flat out sucks. He sucked in Animated. He sucked in Bayverse. A G1 head would be an improvement. That’s all Im saying. Calling in the good Dr. Wu for a head transplant…

Officially, anime cartoons are cartoons created by Japan, for Japan first and foremost, with international markets taking second priority.Rated X wrote:So the G1 cartoon is not American made anime style ? The G1 cartoon was made for America by American companies Marvel and Sunbow, who only outsourced the animation to studios in Asia, namely Toei in Japan and AKOM in Korea.
Lots of non-anime American cartoons have their animation outsourced to overseas studios. The Simpsons, Batman: The Animated Series, Animaniacs, Muppet Babies, and even Transformers: Prime, to name a few. But none of these cartoons are anime due to their West origins and intended audiences.
Even shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Teen Titans aren't anime, despite of their animation being heavily and obviously influenced by anime art styles, due to them being American creations.
Good thing this is "pre-Optimus", then.Rated X wrote:Optimus with a mouth just flat out sucks.

Also, behind the scenes, G1 cartoon Optimus did have a mouth:
We just never saw it because there was another cel for his faceplate placed over it for his speaking animations.

I see nothing wrong with that image.Rated X wrote:Sabrblade, one picture is worth a thousand words...
All I see is a happy example of the heart and soul of the 1980s Generation 1 depicted in a joyful, picturesque display.
Anyone who doesn't think the Generation 1 era was as cheesy and charming as seen in this artwork is fooling themselves.
That was X, not me.Nemesis Destron wrote: That just made my day....thanks Sabrblade!

All IDW did was turn him into baby Optimus Prime. Kind of like Hot Rod before he became Rodimus.

Rated X wrote:You comic book fans trip me out lol. In my OPINION, IDW ruined Orion Pax. In G1 he used to be way more cool. A totally different character than Optimus. He even had a chick.
Sadly, in the cartoon he only existed for a single episode, so beyond him being a trusting, naïve simpleton, we didn't really get to learn much at all about him.
I didn't read the comics either, but the cartoon sure did leave some terrible gaps and it's very unfortunate (particularly given how many of us, myself included) how many of us base our 'personal canon' on the cartoon since so much of what our canon consists of were nothing more than one-off episodes and singular events that somehow define the universe where the Transformers live in our heads.
I don't think I fight the change from G1 quite as much as you though, and I embrace newer continuities a bit more easily (although I also criticize them quite a bit too, but usually because they are trying to be G1, not because they're different from it).
Still, I would like to see a toy of the G1 cartoon Orion Pax.

That's from a 1980s children's storybook.
A little-known one at that, that barely anyone in the fandom outside of only the most diehard of fans (without using TFWiki) would know anything about, much less would have even read it.

On the other hand, hollow legs means possibly more options for 3rd party armor addons

Actually I meant metallic. I tend to refer to metallic as "chrome" sometimes. I know it's not correct technically, but theyre both mirror shiny just one has color and the other doesnt.

I think they are both keepers but I wish the engineers would have done something different with Orion's placed behind his wind shield.

The price point is a little high, but expected. I'm just not sure if I want to shell out that much for deluxes I might not end up caring about.
Posted by Sodan-1 on June 13th, 2013 @ 5:18pm CDT
I think I actually prefer the clear window of the Hasbro version of Orion, but the better paint applications and the fact he's coming with that awesome Megatron mean I'll probably take this one over Hasbro's anyway.
Nice work Takara.

Also, in b4 Takara fanboys, aside from lighter shades and metallic red and the windshield, there are NO VISIBLE DIFFERENCES in paint apps.

This is the Generations line, not the Prime line. Takara's Generations line never had stickers (barring Metroplex) or Arms Microns.KnightStrike wrote:On the bright side at least the Takara one does have paint apps and doesn't just come with stickers and a lot of Arms Micron holes all over it

Aye, sorry, that was just an attempt at humor on my part. After just stickering up Generations Metroplex and a couple Joe vehicles in one day recently I can firmly say that if I don't see another decal sheet for a loooooong time it will be fine by me

I liked this version's blue windscreen and the proper silver on his crotch, abdomen and arm flaps. But that shade of blue is kind of weak. Not like how it looked in the previous official images. (I know. I should've known better. ) And like others have said, that Autobot logo suffers because of it. I also can't get behind the all-over shiny paint. It's a little too blingy for a records clerk/enforcer of the law.
Then there's the biggest drawback to this figure, which is ironically that it comes with one of the tiniest Megatrons ever. It's a good design sure, but I couldn't be happy having such a small Decepticon tyrant in my collection, not unless he was to function as some kind of boomerang Targetmaster for one of the larger figures.
Pre-order cancelled. I'm sticking with Hasbro's Orion Pax for the time being.
