Thanks to a tip from fellow Seibertron.com user fenrir72, we took a look at the official Takara Tomy website (and Twitter account) to find some further information on the Fan's Choice Masterpiece figure: Star Saber! The site offers some information, Google translated and tweaked below and an early stages study sketch, also mirrored below, confirming its mass release and the creation of a 'development diary'. So stay tuned with Seibertron.com and Takara as we bring you more about this figure during its creation before it's released!
It reached number one in impressive in the "Masterpiece Fan's Choice" poll conducted at the end of last year. Mass release of the masterpiece "Star Saber" has been confirmed.
Development project has finally begun.
Let us show you a drawing of the design study for this first installment of the development diary!
It is a early study sketch, but it's still possible to see the coolness of heroic Star Saber. Further along, elements of mechanical toy are going to be added to this figure, as the level of perfection as a toy is gradually increasing.
The Masterpiece Star Saber mass release has been determined by the vote of everyone.
We will continue to update from time to time the development progress of Star Saber on this page, as we cannot wait for you to also enjoy the process of it getting onto the market, and all information will be stated on this page.

What this means by "diary" is that this page on TT's website will be updated periodically with information about the figure as production of it continues onward.

Star Saber's design has always been a little Gundam. I think his daddy was playing both franchises.
Honestly can't say there's a whole lot to get me excited from those pics, because it's just a picture of the character in each of his modes (well, there's no tiny wee dude, but I bet they'll get to that) but in general I'm pretty keen to see more. I like the design of the character and depending on how big he ends up being he might work okay in the IDW side of my collection. Heck, might just get him any way, since there's no other version of him I'm really able to get that's worth the money to me.

Quite a while ago we reported the beginning of the Fan Poll Choice Masterpiece Star Saber's journey to production, with some early study sketches. Today, Twitter account TFYuki has teased what could be a fairly big reveal for the figure coming tomorrow. Check out the image below, which appears to feature the original toy's feet over some new design sketches, and speculate away!

Heh, most of the cons that I wanted an MP of is mostly the non-leaders. MP LioKaiser would be dope, but that's stepping into combiner territory.
Makes you wonder though; Which con leader would most Japanese TF fans pick? I can't quite imagine them picking Megatron, so perhaps Galvatron? Gigatron is kinda too bizzare looking, and Scorponok's kinda meh. Maybe Overlord(if he qualifies as a leader alongside BlackZarak), Cybertron Megatron and Reverse Convoy. Or maybe they'll just pick Deathsaurus just to go with StarSaber.

Will be waiting in anticipation. MP-11 Starscream and Star Saber are the two Masterpieces I really want. Hopefully it won't be overwhelmingly awesome that it will make me want Star Saber more than Starscream...

You understand that this project was separate from the actual Masterpiece line, so that it wouldn't interfere with the potential work on those that you named... right? And Star Saber has a buttload of popularity in Japan, so them getting an MP Star Saber is just as important as us getting an MP Optimus Prime.

how has this not been posted yet?
Despite designer Hisashi Yuki's request via Twitter and a prominent no photography sign, we have a first glimpse at Masterpiece Star Saber in prototype form from Tokyo Toy Show, happening right now. The image shows Star Saber in his super robot form in a glass display case. Whether we'll see anything more of the figure from this event is unknown, but if one photo got out, more will likely follow!

I know right?...maybe since he isn't part of the main MP line they haven't made him to fit in size wise? More like a leader sized Star Saber to work with classics?
Still, he looks pretty solid. Although he almost looks like a non posable PVC

Oh, yeah, the size thing...He WILL scale well with Classics, I guess. Maybe it's partly because this begs for a Victory Leo to combine with someday, and they couldn't justify making that toy any bigger than this. Really makes me glad Fort Max didn't win; even for a Marvel loyalist like myself, a Masterpiece Max this size would be sort of a letdown.

well, my main collection is that 3" tall line, but I also collect MP and That MP Star Saber is not MP scaled, total fail... maybe is a different and new MP scale, or just size/scaled random like AoE toys. Glad Fortress didn't win, would match with WST rather than MP

What makes you guys think that he's that much smaller than Ultra Magnus? The angle of the picture makes it difficult to tell. It looks like the photographer was holding the camera up on the same level with Magnus but quickly tilted the camera down to snap the photograph of Star Saber (hence why there is only 1 pic). It might be smaller than Magnus but I'd be surprised if he was smaller than the Seeker or Soundwave mold.

He probably looked shorter than he's supposed to be because:
a) perspective; &
b) he's much better proportioned and has slimmer legs compared to UM.
But, I guess they couldn't fit in the SaberBlade gimmick huh?

I just got a message from Professor Smooth on Facebook. He was at the show earlier, saw Star Saber in person, and said that Star Saber and Ultra Magnus are "Very similar in size".

That's the second time I've said OMG about Star Saber.
I was thinking he might be short so he can combine with Victory Leo, but that theory is shot. Still, even if he doesn't combine, this figure is going to be amazing.
