Got through 155 of them when I finally broke down and started writing this post.

Thanks for doing the comparison pics with Armada Red Alert. Great pictures!

My opinion of this figure is mostly the same, only a bit more so: while I really hate that deco, that's not gonna stop me from buying this one when it's out. In spite of the deco this figure's very easily my personal favorite as far as what we've seen so far. Not that the others suck mind you. This one's just the best. Only the object-formers really compete so far.

I like the shot of him holding up the G1 Ratchet. Besides it looking cool, it shows that this isn't a flimsy hard to balance figure.

But much like IronHide, I need to come up with a name for him.

I gotta also agree and say kudos on the comparison pictures with A. Red/Micron Legend Ratchet. Choice work!

That is a pretty neat TF. The automorph feature is pretty lame, though. Not because it's a lame gimmick, so to speak, but because his dosen't do much at all.

Which was my whole point when everyone was arguing about the "auto-morph feature". I was actually really glad that it had a very small part to do with the Transformers' actual transformation. Starscream's is more noticeable than Ratchet's. Starscream's chest "explodes" from the front of the jet to his chest. Ratchet ... it's just his feet making the knee cap and "calf" muscles going into place.

Somewhere in Hong Kong, there's a Chinese warehouse worker laying facedown in a puddle of his own blood, with an Armada Unicron embedded into the back of his cranium. And with several TF movie toy items missing.

I'm sorry but these factories are not in hk. Though you might have a sense of humor, you need to work on your understanding of the foreign economics and labor condition before using any jokes related to the subject. No offense, but to anyone who lives in Asia, it would be your lack of knowledge that is actually funny.

I don't hate the Super Bowl. I'm just not a fan a football in general. My real interest in the Super Bowl, however, is right here. I've already added my picks to my own myspace page, if you want my two cents worth, just hit the pause button on the song if you're not into it or you'd rather just check the promos right off.

And, just to keep on topic, my pick from the gallery.

I thought TF's were made in China, Taiwan and Macau. Pretty sure they're not in HK (even though it is part of China now) but I could be wrong.

I own them and I'm not sure if I agree with your statement. If Ratchet was colored something other than puke green and had a recognizable "Ratchet" head, then I would agree. The toy itself is a really awesome figure. It's very poseable. It has a very nice alt-mode. But it doesn't represent the character that I've grown to love over the past 23 years. AS much as I like this figure, it's not Ratchet.

Fair enough if you guys were arguing amongst yourselves. But people were arguing with me and I have handled these toys. I was hoping that you guys would look to my experience with owning 1800+ Transformers toys as well as various movie toys and knowing how these features work with the figures. I guess I'd like to think that I'm expert of some sorts on Transformers figures at this point. If I'm not, then I don't know what a Transformers toy expert is.

Honestly? I think Hasbro is doing the best they can with the source material they somehow approved. Part of me feels like all of this is an act of desperation on their behalf because they're trying to get their market share this year now that Star Wars isn't as big of a player. They're looking for the "next big thing". Hollywood told them "this would be it."

While I don't like the look of the robots in the movie, I hope Hollywood is right and that this is what Joe-Schmoe American guy is looking for in a big blockbuster action movie. I understand why they went with this look but I disagree with this approach.

I think they would have been better off doing things the way I think they should have done them. But what do I know? I only run one of the largest Transformers websites on the Internet and own about 1800+ Transformers figures. According to the way things are being done, I'm apparently NOT an expert in this field.

Agreed. It looks like a pretty cool figure, and if it were a new character in a new continuity I'd love it. However it's not Ratchet, and this movie is meant to be at least loosely based on G1, this design isn't even close. A better head design and a better colours and I'd be more inclined to sing its praises. As it stands it a nice figure designed to accompany what's looking to be a crap movie. Hasbro clearly did their best in designing this figure but it was too little too late, the damage has already been done. They should have put their foot down in when the movie designs were being made, made it clear how important it was that the character remain recognisable, that's my opinion anyway.

Well, I agree with your frustrations on the matter seibs.

BUT, I don't think big budget film will ever succumb to reason. They just rarely go hand in hand.

There's hope though, Look at TMNT. TMNT's origins with Eastman and Laird etc, were great. However any attempt at a feature was always off the mark. I think with the new CGI film it will finally be represented in a light that everyone can be happy with.

I hope at some point we can say the same about a Transformers film. In fact, i'm still waiting for a good fan flick CGI film to come out....waiting...waiting...anyone?

I'll be getting him. Then again, I'll be getting them all. Not because they are all super looking toys (so far the only ones to really impress me are Ironhide and this Ratchet) but because what sort of Transfan would I be if I didn't collect the movie merchandise?! :P

Seriously though, both this version of Ratchet (and Ironhide if you've seen him) are definately cool figures and indeed the whole line is an interesting new take on the Transformers franchise. I would have preferred it if they had used the red and white on Ratchet that appeared last week as a concept (maybe he will be a future repaint?!) but I'll make do with what I get.

"looks great. but compared to the other ratchets, u realize that movieratchet isnt like anything seen before"

That's one reason why I like it- I've got a fairly hefty collection myself, but I don't have anybody who looks like that :D I think Ratchet's in a better place for a new look than Starscream was, mainly since original, Micron Denetsu, Botcon and Universe ratchets don't look much like each other, although the Micron Denetsu Ratchet (aka Armada Red Alert) is a similar veicle with a similar amount of red to this chap :)

The only thing I don't like about this fella (and there's a long list of things I do like which I won't bore everyone with) is the front wheels either side of the head. It's a shame there's nowhere to put them, and leaves him with zero peripheral vision. I hope he (and Blackout) have auxilliary cameras on his shoulders or something.

I think the key to happiness with the Movie line is to not see it as another Classics or homage line but rather as a fresh take on things. The Movie is clearly only very loosely based on G1, so it shouldn't matter so much if reused names represent radical new designs. Heck, it's not all that different from what they did with Armada except this time the toys seem to be well engineered.

My biggest complaint is simply the heads. I don't understand why all of them had to receive such alien looking faces. Yes, I understand that these are alien machines. However, no one questions the fact that Han Solo and Luke Skywalker look human even though they're aliens. We just accept it. It seems like heads that resembled more traditional looking Transformers would have been a huge step for me.

I don't want anyone to misconstrue what it is that I'm saying. I really like these toys. I actually like the designs. It's just they're not the characters that I had hoped we would see on the big screen. Optimus is the exception. Bumblebee is a close exception.

I really hope that for the 2nd movie, assuming there is one, that the Transformers take on more human characteristics the longer they're here on Earth around humans. I think that would be a great way to introduce some of the more familiar characteristics that were used to about Transformers. ** crosses fingers **

Very true but at what point does 'loosely based on' become 'barely recognisable as'? There's a fine line between re-imagining and re-inventing, you can only change something so much before it comes something else. As we've seem with other franchises made into movies you can change a few things and retain the spirit of the franchise but change too much and you run the risk of loosing what made it special in the first place. This movie, it's designs and therefore the toy designs are in danger of being so far removed from the source material that the only thing identifying than as Transformers is the title and character names on the boxes. I'm a fan of Transformers not Hollywood invasion movies with transforming generic alien/monsters.

Nice stuff, Ryan!

I looked at the other auctions from the seller you bought Ratchet from Ryan, and it looks like he has Wreckage, Jazz, Brawl and Barricade too!

It would be sweet if you could get your hands on Jazz, we haven't even seen pics of his *actual* non-airbrushed robot mode yet.
