Lots of toy-accuracy going on with these. Blue Bluestreak, visor-eyed Brawn, face-masked Bumblebee, visor-eyed Gears, gray-eyed Hound, visor-eyed Huffer, silver-visor Jazz, blue eye-masked Mirage, mouthplated Perceptor, silver-eyed Rumble and Frenzy, yellow-eyed Skywarp, yellow-visored Soundwave, red-visored Trailcutter, red-eyed/blue-mouthplated Ultra Magnus, visor-eyed Wheeljack, visor-eyed Windcharger, and a lot of other odds and ends.

Also at $2 a Kreon, that's a fantastic price.

Nice price point thought. Too bad it barely makes up for the admission and the rest of the costs associated with going.

A set of 30 of the most beloved/iconic G1 characters that includes all of the 1984 cast (minus the three non-humanoid ones) doesn't make any sense?shockblast2 wrote:This set doesn't make sense.

Aren't Arcee and Magnus technically "Class of '86?" Nonetheless, I WANT THIS.
If it were the class of 84 it should be the original 18 autobots and 14 decepticons.
I would have gone for that as well. But Magnus and Arcee are pretty cool additions.

yeah, that shrapnel is getting the red one's parts, since they're inexplicably going with something other than those pincers. the improved seekers look great, skrapnel and sideswipe are mixed up, but that's not a major issue. my only real complaint is that they dont seem to have included a red pair of the pieces they're using as piledrivers, so we could use rumble as rumble instead of frenzy I'm not saying I'm right, just that the choice should be up to the user!

On the flip side, there are a LOT of repeat characters...

I will be buying this.
EDIT: Oh my god Sunstreaker has a mullet. A FRAGGING MULLET.

To be fair Sabr, if you look at the accessories, Buzzsaw, Laserbeak and Ravage *ARE* included in cassette form.
Also the only thing *REALLY* confusing me is why Shrapnel is using smokestacks instead of pincers. I hope they fixed this for the official release

Do they have these for sale even if you can't attend?

SDCC exclusives, if there are any stock left after the convention is over, is put on Hasbro Toy Shop usually the following Monday. I imagine this and the Dinobots set selling out really quickly.

If they're anything like the regular retail Kre-Os, then they should. I mean, they actually fall apart and you have to put them back together into their alt modes, but it's still changing from 1 form to the other.

They look to be the regular non-transforming Kreons rather than Micro Changers, due to a lack of a noticeable amount of excessive kibble parts that enable transformation.Rodimus Prime wrote:chuckdawg1999 wrote:OK, I'll ask, do the figures Transform?

I am a little disappointed that they haven't attempted Ravage and Laserbeak/Buzzsaw yet (I mean in robot mode). There are the animal helmets now. They could probably whip up something simple.

I don't know about Laserbeak/Buzzsaw but they could do a great Beast Wars Ravage

Either a "More Than Meets The Eye" Class of 1984 set (only with characters from the original first 3 parter) or a Season 1 Class of 1984 set that included all of the characters from Season 1, including the humans Spike, Sparkplug, Chip Chase and Dr Archevil as well as the Constructicons, Devastator, Jetfire, Shrapnel, Bombshell, Kickback and Reflector.
That's what I thought it was going to be when I read the headline.

What are you talking about? Cast of what? The TF cartoon came out in 84 and last time I checked Arcee, Ultra Magnus, the Insecticons, and others were NOT introduced until later on. Years later for some. There were 18 original autobots and Perceptor wasn't one of them. Neither was Arcee. And theya re missing four or five of the 18. Not to mention almost half of the original decepticons, including the seekers.
Now, care to explain what in the hell you are talking about when you say "original cast"??

All of the original 1984 characters are included in this set, plus five additional post-1984 characters who are likewise beloved/iconic. They did get all of the originals in there, and topped them off with five more dudes for extra goodness.shockblast2 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:A set of 30 of the most beloved/iconic G1 characters that includes all of the 1984 cast (minus the three non-humanoid ones) doesn't make any sense?shockblast2 wrote:This set doesn't make sense.

And neither had a toy in 1984. The toyline dictated who belonged to which year, not the cartoon.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:If you really want to be pedantic, Hauler and the Reflector crew are missing. I was think they could build them along the lines of how they did beast modes for some other characters like the Predacons. They wouldn't be perfect but at least they would be represented.
Mindswipe in different colors would make a great Ratbat. I found that if you remove the waist/leg piece, the claws attached to the hands are in perfect placement for the bat feet. If I was a better customizer, I would've made one myself by now.

According to who? If they were in the cartoon in 1984-85 (season 1) then they belong in the class of '84.

He first "appeared" in More than meets the Eye, part 1.
Well, not exactly as he's more like Grapple with his yellow. It's possible Grapple was originally meant for release in 1984 but was pulled. Grapple proper would debut in the Season 2 episode Dinobot Island pt. 1, followed by his spotlight episode The Master Builders. That leaves his Season 1 cameo retconed into Hauler (Grapple's originally planned name). He also "appears" in The Five Faces of Darkness pt. 4 alongside the other Constructicons, though (like Gravedigger) it was due to another retcon, but that was the basis for his toy colors.

Sunstorm, Bitstream, and Hotlink should be in the set too if we want to go by that standard.
I wonder. Would anyone want a Kreon set of just all the seekers or not?

The toyline came first. It mapped out and decided who would appear in the fictions for each year. It's not like they first made characters for the show and then made toys of them afterward. The cartoon just decided to do a little early advertisement for some of the following years' toys now and then to get people excited about the next year's assortments of product. The cartoon relied on the toyline to be the backbone of the brand. Without the toys, we wouldn't have had the cartoon or the comics.Rodimus Prime wrote:Sabrblade wrote:And neither had a toy in 1984. So the Arcee, Perceptor and Magnus toys were out in '84? And the Diaclones don't count, because they weren't technically the Transformers toys. They were just based on them. I can count Magnus, as he is the repaint of Prime (the white cab used in the Kreo set is, anyway) but the other 2?
Posted by Sabrblade on June 26th, 2014 @ 8:07am CDT
I already covered this. This is the 1984 cast, plus five additional beloved/iconic characters, who were probably included to make the number of Kreons an even 30 for the anniversary.Rodimus Prime wrote:So the Arcee, Perceptor and Magnus toys were out in '84? I know that. My objection is this shouldn't be called the "Class of '84" if there are characters from later represented.

Eh... last year's exclusives were better. My opinion, of course. Only thing I remotely like is the Dinobots set. The rest of it is "meh" to me.
