Uberfan Monzo's website,
The Obscure Transformers Website hosts some very interesting images from a catalog pre-dating 1985's Toy Fair. In these images we can see some early test colours for some familiar faces:

Wow, those minibots look like early protos.

lol, poor Seaspray only has one prop, and it only has one blade.
EDIT: Oops, blowing up the picture, I see he does indeed have two props, but still with just one blade each.

Those other links on that site are linked wrong. 86 went to 1996 and kept getting worse.

Yeah I don't think all of those Mini-bots are the final ones. I think at the very least there's some details not yet added.
I do like the Coneheads' colours. Dirge looks more purple-y, Thrust's rocking the metal silver and Black Ramjet! (well ok, dark grey, but still)

Those coneheads are so sexy I could make love to them.
Interesting to note the black Hoist too, since the IGA release was a modified green Trailbreaker. Almost comes full circle.
*EDIT* ROFL - "make move to"? "make love to"

Me to! I think they actually look better than the final colour schemes.

A lot of the links in the American toy catalog section are down. It skips to Beastwars in the 1986 link.

I like the Coneheads alot, but I don't think that one could ever have enough Seekers.

Anyone else find it odd that though these minibots are clearly not even proper prototypes, just mock-up sculpts, they're all in their proper colours despite previous images of their final molds with differing "early" colour schemes? (Specifically Powerglide and Cosmos)

Those minibots ARE prototypes.
It's nice to see that they couldn't even get the transformations right back then either! (Warpath)

Those minibots may well be prototypes, true... but the detailing on them is clearly not molded, rather sculpted (especially noticeable on Beachcomber's hood/legs) and I was merely using it to point out that their final mold versions (using the same mold as the finished figures) had been seen in other catalog pictures in differing "early" colours, while these incomplete sculpts are in their final colours.
