I got the Walmart G1 reissue Devastator, ripped him open, and have thoroughly done all my "tests". The last time he was released (Encore #20 and #20A) the QC was pretty poor, so I'm sure a lot of people are wondering how this one will measure up. Also due to his steep price tag (100 CAD/75 USD) buying one of these might be considered quite a leap of faith.

For once folks, our faith has been rewarded.
He. Feels. GREAT. And I seriously hope it's not just my copy.
Each individual figure looks and feels fantastic. The plastic is top notch, and everything is tight and solid. The only thing so far that's worried me was Longhauls right arm was hard to pull out the first time, but since then its felt fine. Everybody transforms nicely and everything works (which is nice because one of the heads on my 20A broke and got lost inside his body).

Put'em all together, and you also get a pretty solid Devastator. I mean, he's not that solid to begin with but I doubt he could be any better than this one. All this kinda makes me sad that the beautifully painted 20A was such a dud.

But is he worth the steep cost of admission? I really think he is. The only negative I can come up with it the two shades of green plastic he seems to have, but I personally have no idea how Encore #20 (proper) or the original was. For a crisp quality G1 Devs, you can't do better than this unless you're dead set on proper vintage. I highly recommend him ;)^

I'm actually interested in getting the G1 reissues (mainly to go with CHUG versions of characters I own that have an affordable G1 counterpart, and right now I have Optimus and Motormaster), but I want to wait for these to go on clearance. I don't think that they'll sell as well in my specific Walmarts, but we'll see.

Don't get your hopes too high. The SCALPERS will snatch all these sets up before any sale ever happen. My only hope is that there's a silly over production of those reissues, just to shaft the scalpers good.

Scalpers or not, I hope these reissues sell well. Because I want to see at least ONE of these reissue lines survive long enough to get through the same old "must haves" before it dies. That way we can get some good stuff that deserves to see the light of day again!

I mean yeah, the slagging scalpers are one concern, but don't they already have enough G1 reissues? I mean I get someone wants to have as many variants of the same G1 toy as possible (Commemorative Series, Collection, Encore, Platinum Edition), and yes I am sure that there's G1 fans that don't buy Takara, but judging by at least the Walmart closest to me, Black Series, Marvel Legends of even popular characters, and the legacy 5 inch MMPR figures (as well as the 6 inch ones) were still on pegs for a while. I know they're different toys with collector market values than the G1 toys, but I'm only going by what my stores have. I can't speak for anyone else's stores unless they have something to say, but pipe up if you want to bring up how distribution on your stores treats collectors' items.

So yeah, I'm not keeping my fingers crossed knowing scalpers, but I'm confident to say judging what warms pegs in my place, I faintly expect a small clearance sale.

Right?! Like, literally anything past Season 2 please. I'm more partial to Powermasters (BESIDES Prime) as I had more of those. For Headmasters I think I only had Siren :-?

I totally want more G1 reissues. I only started collecting fairly recently, so only have a few G1 reissues from the Platinum Series line. I don't think I'll get them all, but I'm all in on Devy, Starscream, Hot Rod, and Bee. I really hope they reissue more.

I've come across news/rumors that some of the old molds are no longer available. Do we know if Optimus, the Datsuns, and the dinobots molds are still available? Would love me some of that!

Lost, not gone. :) Mirage is one of them as well (though the cigarette ads on his toy may be another factor preventing his reissues), and Sunstreaker is rumored, but not confirmed, lost. One mold that's definitely confirmed broken is G1 Wheeljack.

However, as the SDCC Dino Cassettes have proven, if the master 2-up model is still intact, new molds can be created from it.

What were your issues with 20 and 20A?

My 20A had lots of fingerprints on the chrome. And the "anime" color was a bit more anemic acovado green. Aside from that, the fig overall was good. same with 20.

Does your Hb have functional missile launchers?

If they ever reissue some headmasters or powermasters or even targetmasters, I wouldn't mind if those reissues would be different from the originals. First, no stickers. Tampos only. This way, it will set them clearly appart from the originals. Second, they could fix various issues like too fragile tabs for the powermasters and for Trigger Happy. Plus that infamous floppy wing on Brainstorm.

Looks like an unfortunate lighting situation combined with a reflection from the shelf. The in tray pics appear normal. Most of the silver and chrome bits look pretty dark in the pics.

Calling $75 steep for this is just silly considering what the originals and past Devy reissues go for. I was very pleasantly surprised that it was only that much.

I don't know, in shaj's review, devy is only a little bit taller than generations scavenger who is roughly voyager sized. As I said, this is good for those that want him but not for me.

When it comes to G1 reissues... unless it's an extremely hard to find toy (like those Japan exclusive dino tapes), I want it to be "different." G1 Devi, Hot Rod, Starscream... they're pretty easy to find, and with no significant changes, are an easy pass. Giving SS the Megatron gun would be a pull if I didn't already have that, so kudos there.

I want to see Devie done in Diaclone colors. I want to see a Shattered Glass Perseus color scheme. The anime version from a few years back? Gimmie. Hell, I'll even go for an arctic camo battle color. Just something "different." But just standard same old same old... meh. That's what ebay's for.

Diaclone G1 Prime would be nice. The Sunstreaker release where he looks like fused with Prowl looks nice, too.

And all the triple changers were done really well. Except Broadside......woof.

Awesome in every aspect of this. There are some amazing and easy repaints that could be done with these that would reap huge benefits. eHobby can't be the only ones to step it up for the G1 repaints.

-Kanrabat- wrote:Different like the latest Astrotrain and Blitzwing. Those were unique plus a nice niche hommage. We need more like these.

Agree as well. It would have been nice to get those done as MachTackle and "sorta not -Flywheels" proper a la eHobby
rename instead of as Astotrain and Blitzing in secret colors. If that makes any sense. Otherwise a US release Overcharge and anime Astrotrain would have been a much better repaint in the proper name. Or just reissue MachTackle and Flywheels proper G1 toys.

In full go ahead with this move. So much amazing stuff in 1.5 as well as late G1. GPS be damned... or hopefully corrected for by now.

The Walmart exclusive Transformers G1 Reissues of Devastator and the Minibots are currently available for preorder on Walmart.com. While these are showing up at brick and mortar in Canada, all except for Hot Rod, we have yet to get a brick and mortar sighting in the US.

For those outside the US, Robot Kingdom still has a few of the G1 reissues in stock, click here to find those links.

Here is hoping all those who want these toys get them. Also, just for info, if any of you have any inclination towards getting Outback, do not hesitate if you see him. He is short packed in order for there to be three Bumblebees, which are also in incredibly high demand due to the remolded cartoon face never before released in the US.

My Starscream is set to arrive later next week, and I think the two minibots I ordered are scheduled to come first week of Sept.

Was just talking to Itscramtastic. His Starscream was set to arrive yesterday, but he was notified by Walmart of a delay.

I remember either shipping or arriving August 30th for the Minibots.

Yeah. I got the email Saturday that my Starscream didn’t come in Friday (did the site to store option). I’m wondering if I had ordered it normally would it have arrived?! Drat.

Also, hey Cobotron and carytheone, what’s up?!

Something that I'm truly glad that (at least for Bumblebee), the G1 reissue minibots have PAINT APS contrary to the G1 originals. This set them appart and make worth purchasing.

Good point Kanrabat, I’m definitely hoping to find that Bumblebee in store.

You're about the only person I've heard say something negative about the toon accurate head. Would you prefer a toy accurate version? Not wanting to start a fight, just curious :D

Yes, I'd prefer the battle mask. I do like the extra paint though.

Edit: personal preference and display reasons.

To follow up on thd shipping times for the minibots, here's the email I received from Uncle Wally.

The question is, how accurate is that? I can't get a ship time from their app and haven't checked via their website. Nor have I received a tracking email.

So grains of salt all around.

Pretty sure I made mention of wishing Bee didn't come with that toon face. Would love to simply have a reproduction of the original toy.

Well, that response feels like it reads nice and diplomatic without any of the nerd rage negativity I actually feel towards that derpy pudge face.

Edit: What up Cramburger!
