Very interesting you say this. It seems like the general consensus from everyone else on this thread is that they're buying everything in this line. Like you, I didn't know many of the characters, and had to google them. But yea, definitely can't wait for hot rod, perceptor, and brawn.
But I've also been recently watching the Japanese G1 cartoons (finished Headmasters and Masterforce, in the middle of Victory), so I'll also be picking up Sixshot and Overlord. I have no idea who Broadside is, but have to admit he looks pretty cool...so maybe.... Probably passing on everything else.
I'm curious how well this line will sell. While we're the minority on this forum, I'm guessing more people than not outside of this forum don't really know who these characters are, which may make them pass.

Broadside was the third Autobot Triple Changer from 1986, alongside Springer and Sandstorm. He was barely in season 3 of the G1 cartoon, appearing in only four episodes (and having his character model used for an illusory Decepticon in another episode).nycPrime wrote:I have no idea who Broadside is, but have to admit he looks pretty cool...so maybe....

Thanks! Is he a more important character in the comics or anywhere else, given he was a "minor" character in the G1 toon? Just trying to wrap my head around why Hasbro is giving us this.

The biggest reason seems to be that people simply want to complete their Autobot Triple Changer collection.nycPrime wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Broadside was the third Autobot Triple Changer from 1986, alongside Springer and Sandstorm. To be frank, he's not exactly an enticing character since his bio tells us that he's both terrified of heights and gets seasick easily, despite his turning into both an aircraft and a seacraft.

I'm really sick of them splitting up the waves in these reveals though. To me it doesn't feel like we're really getting anything. I mean the only new things that we saw were two titan masters, brawn, broadside and black shadow. Everything else we saw at the last reveal from the back of the other figures packaging.
Posted by Bumblebee21 on October 6th, 2016 @ 10:28am CDT
his base mode is much better
Posted by Nemesis Maximo on October 6th, 2016 @ 10:28am CDT
Black Shadow looks too...Puffy, especially compared to the Generations one I have. So Im happy to stick with that one and wait for Overlord.
The more I see of Sixshot, the less I like him. His proportions seem so wonky and he looks too much like 80s toy vs a toy homaging a toy from the 80s.

Would you mind showing me his official tank mode, because I think you are referring to his mobile laboratory mode, which is what the image you placed also shows. His actual tank mode was only part of the microchange line and looks like the pic below, not the one in the official image:
This is a mobile laboratory, not a tank mode.
Unless people mean mobiel laboratory when they mention "tank mode". But then, what do you call his actual tank mode?
EDIT: Sorry sureshot, I realize you included a pic in your post but I cant see it for some reason, it appears broken.

I love him.
Anyone else getting a little worried that for Sky Shadow there's only a render of one Titan Master, and in the interaction renders it only shows one Titan Master?

He's based on Overlord - a jet and a tank that combine into one robot, much like the Duocons.

Broadside's jet mode is just pfffttthahahaahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no. Assaulter for me.
Perceptor I'll probably be transforming into mobile lab/laser cannon mode the most. The lack of a decent Headmaster cockpit in microscope mode kinda kills it. Still looks good though and I like that he seems to have an actual working scope on his shoulder.
Doublecross looks decent. The arm setup isn't great but the Headmaster looks cool.
Black Shadow (and by extension Overlord) has ankle tilts! Yay!
Getaway is boring but the engine detail on the Headmaster is a nice touch.
Triggerhappy looks cool, I'm digging the jet mode especially.

If you still can't see it, here's a different pic of what he was trying to post:
And here is another pic of Perceptor actually using his third mode as a tank mode:

Think of it this way NYC, did kids know who these characters were back in 86? There were a ton of toys that werent even on the show and they still sold. Kids just want cool toys and that is what Hasbro is banking on here. The brand is big enough to be sold on its name alone, to both parents and kids, so they dont need people to know the characters to buy them. The line sells quite well so far. However, I will admit that the toy to sell best so far at the stores I have seen is Leader Optimus. So yes, name recognition does still play a role, but its more of a extra than a must. The truth si that Hasbro wants today's kids to experience G1, and new characters they dont know is part of that
It will all work out

Where did we previously see Peceptor?

I am right there with you. Its like the uncanny valley, the closer it looks to an 80s toy, the weirder it gets. I guess this comes to show that fans dont realyl wnt what they say they want (or else 3p companies would be out of business since they rarely give us an 80s toy aesthetic and fans are their primary target).
Kurona wrote:Anyone else getting a little worried that for Sky Shadow there's only a render of one Titan Master, and in the interaction renders it only shows one Titan Master?
I now believe he only comes with 1, which makes his display yesterday super misleading. Although it makes sense he had 2 totan masters on display since there were 3 of him there.
But hey, thats why Titan Masters are also sold individually.

I like all the points you bring up. Its like our opinions are in synch (same like when I first met Kurona here). Yeah, the jet mode is bad, and I wonder if its better or worse than G1 which was absoultely terrible:
Transformers G1 1986 Broadside Gallery
I like what they do with the cockpit though and its the back of it that we see on his robot chest. It looks better than the original toy.
And hey, Alpha Trion has 2 subpar alt modes, at least this gy only has 1 with a really good other one.
I also felt the same about Getaway. When I saw that deail on his crest, I started wanting him (dont know if that feeling will stay). And I love Triggerhappy's jet mode. They found a way tohave everything there without it looking too busy or clunky.

I get the feeling they're saving his jet mode for another time, but if he does indeed have it, I think this figure may be the most extensive and insane retool ever. Also, Perceptor seem to have some tank tread molding, so I'm sure if he doesn't have one, there's bound to be a good fanmode.

It's been revealed through the renders.
It's not really a retool. It's more on the shared engineering/parts-sharing level of Scourge and Highbrow.

Yup. Plus, with this particular assortment there's a lot of 'rule of cool' going on. Twinferno turns into a 2-headed dragon while his head becomes an eyepatch-wearing lion: AWESOME! Broadside is an aircraft carrier that comes with tiny little micro Aerialbots: COOL! Blackshadow splits into two military vehicles: GIMMIE! Perceptor turns into a functional microscope: YAY! Shuffler is an elephant: AAAAAAAHHH!!
I mean, Soundwave is mega-popular and yet he basically just keeps little dudes in his chest and has a cool voice. "Loyal to Megatron" doesn't factor into why most people like him.

The picture on the packaging of the Universe reissue is of the mobile laboratory but it labels it as a tank mode so technically it is also a tank mode. Sabrblade also gave another picture Seibertron's galleries that better show what I am talking about. Also the picture worked fine for me.

Its probably because of a filter at work (dont tell them I am here, shh). And ok, thanks, I see how Hasbro changed the name of that mode. I do hope this new figure lets you pull off the actual tank mode though. And sureshot, do you have the G1 version? becasue if so, I highly recomend you try that actualy tank mode since by having all 4 limbs paralel, the back wheel touhes the floor adn you have a really awesome tank that rolls super well. If that was his actual third mode, I wold easily have claimed perceptor to be one of the best tripel changers of all time.

the plane mode isn't awful though he does suffer from stubby wing syndrome, optimus prime and octane will suffer too...
alpha trion, tho suffered a bit in his alt modes, his transformation was intuitive and fun, so i have high hopes for broadside..

SO AWESOME! Everything about Twinferno is amazing. Just take it out of TF context. A one eyed lion-man space adventurer who pilots a two-headed dragon, that can turn into a giant robot suit of armor type thing. Pure Sci-fi Fantasy genius! I love it when TFs blur the lines and combine genres like this.Big Grim wrote:Sabrblade wrote:He's based on White Leo.Big Grim wrote:And Twinferno's Titan Master has a kitty face with an eyepatch. Ayways, so the ones I will be getting for sure are the following:
titanmasters: fangry, repugnus and shuffler
Not sure abot Ptero, will wait to see if they reuse that mold
Brawn for sure
Deluxes: triggerhappy, hotrod (who I am not terribly excited about though), perceptor, doublecross and Triggerhappy.
Really not sure about Geaway.
I will get Braodside, two out of 3 modes being great is good enough for me but I will wait to see how the tidal wave redeco looks like. I dont need 2 of this mold.
Leaders: hmmm... Sixshot, yes, and BlackshadowI just dont know. If the jet mode is strikingly different from Overlord's (which it might be) then maybe. But these are expensive toys and consume a lot fo space (which is an even scarcer resource than money for me). For 30$, yes I would get him, but not for more.

It's definitely a pre-emptive release of Overlord; much like Sentinel Prime before Astrotrain they're releasing the redeco/pretool before the character the mold was actually made for.
