"transwarped" and he was in the background in CYBERTRONIAN mode
so can we officially call him an animated figure?

He was seen more than that. He's the one who threw the Cosmic Rust at Rodimus Prime and even had a speaking role!pr0wl wrote:i will have to get rodimus but "oil sick" was only partially in one episode

Oil Slick is meh. The first one's good enough for me.

Somehow I find it ironic that Energon Arcee was an archer and now so is Animated Rodimus. Now all we need is Springer to suddennly develop some archery skills ...

No but seriously... I like the look of Animated Roddy, I'm totally gonna pick that one up.

This Oil Slick Repaint was shown at one of the Hasbro panels, but several people forgot to mention it, as the differences between the repaint at the original are minimal.

This is minimal? This is nearer to what was used for the tech spec bio printed in the TFCC mag #24 back in December. Might get him again, keep the repaint in package.

No. He is NOT supposed to be Hot Rod, he is supposed to be Rodimus Prime. Back when the character was first announced and all the times after, he was labeled as "Rodimus Prime". And during this LONG time period, his Robot Mode was the only form that had been seen. His vehicle mode wasn't seen until MUCH later in an April Fools pic.dumbprime wrote:Sabrblade wrote:WHY does Hasbro keep messing up Rodimus Prime's name?!! He's NOT a MINOR, he's a PRIME!

The fact that they lost lost the name "Hot Rod" does not affect this guy. It does affect the G1 character, but only him and no one else.
He is not and wasn't supposed to be Hot Rod, he has always been Rodimus Prime. This toy is the first and only thing that has messed up his name.
Or, just read this:
Sabrblade wrote:About Rodimus, his name was spoken as and credited as simply "Rodimus" in "TransWarped".
However, his TFCC Magazine bio (which is official and was written by the Animated staff) came out first, before "TransWarped" first aired on TV. It was here that his name was first stated as "Rodimus Prime".
Plus, the Animated cartoon clearly stated that those who command teams are at the rank of Prime.
It is the toy that messed up the name. Whereas it should have been "Rodimus Prime", the toy has been labeled as "Rodimus Minor".
I believe this mistake was due to the confusion of his altmode's appearance. His altmode is designed after G1 Hot Rod, instead of G1 Rodimus Prime. This however, shouldn't affect his name, as his character has already been established as a Prime.
Besides, one's look doesn't always affect their name. Take a look at Energon Downshift. He's the spittin' image of G1 Wheeljack, yet his name's not "Wheeljack", it's "Downshift" (and the show even called him "Cliffjumper" more often than "Downshift").
All in all, "Rodimus Minor" is the wrong name for this figure, as he's supposed to be "Rodimus Prime" despite the look of his altmode.
Basically, ignore the G1 character and his name issues, as he's got nothing to do with this guy aside from similar looks and voices.

OK, Sabrblade you win He is suppose to be a prime. Just to me I don't like to refer a figure being Rodimus Prime without the camper part. to me the sports car version with out the camper is and always will be Hot Rod.

Not really. I mentioned the tech spec bio the Transformers Club ran when they started the G1-style cards in the Magazine. The usage of a character that already saw a toy made kind of implied a repaint would be coming, IMO.
Since I had a look again while kicking this post around, I've got to admit it: while the repaint ended up very different from the design in that bio, these pics still end up nearer to that than to the original figure. (I somehow think the image in Oil Slick's tech spec bio ended up becoming a repaint of Lockdown instead. I'm not sure if it's Blazing or Bandit, but one of the two.)

On a side note, when Sentinel Prime got promoted to Sentinel Magnus (presumably), does that mean Jazz got promoted to Jazzimus Prime or something?

beyond the joke that I made, the addition of Minor, and Magnus, and Prime after each characters name as a ranking system of sorts is utterly ridiculous.. so by animated standards then when do we see a Jazz Minor, or a Bumblebee Prime..
I never liked when they started using the actual names as ranks..
Optimus Prime to me meant his rank was "Commander" of the Autobots.
Ultra Magnus to me meant his rank was "City commander" for Autobot City.
and so on and so on..
then they started to call a leader "Prime" in the comics and after that it looks like they keep trying to make a name more then it should be.. just a robots name..
atleast that is how I feel about it.. I guess I'm old school.. I always liked it like G-1 held it..
Diem wrote:I'm surprised that so many people are fussed about whether he's Rodimus Minor or Rodimus Prime, or what. Once you've bought him and taken him home you can call him whatever the damn hell you want.

good Point Diem!

As for this toy, they should have just called him "Rodimus" leaving his rank ambiguous. Also, I always thought the Classics Rodimus would be THE Hot Rod of my collection, but I really like the looks of this one. Really prefer this bow weapon over missile weapon of Classics Rodimus.
As to names and ranks, I mostly agree. "Prime" means things like "chief" "primary" "most important", etc., so I always like that Prime was a rank, but they really should have kept it as THE most important rank.
I mean, if you really want to get technical, "Ultra" would be the "title" part of Ultra Magnus' name, not Magnus, the concept being that before he puts his G1 armor on, he's just Magnus, and then when he puts his armor on, he's "Ultra Magnus."
So I think it would have been cooler if they kept with naming tradition, and called any squad leader an "Ultra' instead of a "Prime". Then we would have gotten Ultra Optimus and Magnus Prime. Then when Optimus got the Hammer, he could have officially become the new Prime, Optimus Prime, and Magnus, if he's even alive in the Animated universe, could have become Ultra Magnus.
I would have LOVED to see Leader Ultra Magnus repainted with Optimus' colors and with Optimus' head, and Voyager Optimus repainted with Magnus' colors and head.
Ah well, I'm dreaming and rambling, so I'll stop now.
Thanks for reading!

Not possible. Hasbro can no longer use the name "Hot Rod" in any way for a Transformers toy character. This is because Mattel already registered the trademark for the name "Hot Rod" for their own toys.Jaz-Zen wrote:Yes, for Hot Rod in general, Hasbro should have just started calling him "Autobot Hot Rod", saving the "Rodimus" name for when he becomes a Prime.
But his rank isn't ambiguous. Both his official bio in the TFCC Magazine (written by the TF Animated staff) and his position in the Animated cartoon as a commander of a team clearly state him to be a Prime.Jaz-Zen wrote:As for this toy, they should have just called him "Rodimus" leaving his rank ambiguous.
They just wanted to be different for this series. What's wrong with being different?Jaz-Zen wrote:As to names and ranks, I mostly agree. Say what? G1 Ultra Magnus was never called just "Magnus" (he has been called this as a nickname, but not as a real name). There's only been one time where his armor was removed, and he was still called "Ultra Magnus" in that armorless form.Jaz-Zen wrote:I mean, if you really want to get technical, "Ultra" would be the "title" part of Ultra Magnus' name, not Magnus, the concept being that before he puts his G1 armor on, he's just Magnus, and then when he puts his armor on, he's "Ultra Magnus."
But then we wouldn't have had an "Optimus Prime" at all during the bulk the series. That name is what kids know and what sells.Jaz-Zen wrote:So I think it would have been cooler if they kept with naming tradition, and called any squad leader an "Ultra' instead of a "Prime". Sentinel was a Prime after he was a Minor. Minors work in the training camps for new Eilte Guard cadets, while Primes are the commanders out on the battelfront.Heckfire wrote:Considering Sentinel Minor was a drill sergeant in "Autoboot Camp," wouldn't that be enough rank to command a small squad?
Seriously, which rank sounds higher: Minor or Prime?

GuyIncognito wrote:The Oil Slick repaint is *ahem* slick *ahem*, but is there really any demand for it?
I dunno. If I get this repaint, it's to keep it carded, and I ended up really enjoying this mold when I bought the original. If I pass, it's because I've already got the original.
Edit: I'd suggest anyone who wanted the original and can't find it by the time the repaint turns up get the repaint.

Wow CP, I would have thought that Oil Slick was right up your ally, personally he is one my favourites from the animated line.
repaint is different, but still too similar in colours to the original for me to consider purchasing it. Would have liked to have seen a fire themed repaint in black red and orange... that would set it apart from the browns, greens and mustard yellow of the first toy.

Also, I only just noticed but he seems to be wearing trainers. Just do it, Rodimus Minor!
