Japan dear, Japan. Japan is a market separate from mainland Asia, end of story.

Money may be no object for you, but how you spend your money doesn't represent the same for everyone.

It would have fit better in scale with everyone (not to mention his own body), maybe that head is still salvageable for the smaller mold
Posted by Sabrblade on April 5th, 2014 @ 4:23pm CDT
not when that head was made for the mold it was used for. They can't just go slapping any old head on any old body. That's not how it works.harvester wrote:They really should have used the other mold of Bulkhead:

It is a deluxe, that's why it would fit better in scale but I do agree that they are trying to stick with Voyagers.
Sabrblade, who are "they"? Did this head exist before they chose this mold? I don't know what you are trying to say. What I was trying to say is, I wonder if I could get a hold of this Brawn, and put his head on a custom painted deluxe Bulkhead. Brawn always had a bigger head to body ratio but in this Cloud fig, the proportions looked flipped to me.

I like how these turned out, I just don't like the oversized Brawn with awkward proportions. If I could swap the head with a deluxe, I think it would look better with this mix of figs, even if I have to pop the head off to transform it (when I would probably just keep it in bot mode).

And with "they" we usually mean Hasbro or TakaraTomy.
Posted by Sabrblade on April 5th, 2014 @ 5:26pm CDT
The "they" I'm referring to are Hasbro and TakaraTomy, who made designed this head specifically for the Voyager Bulkhead body.
One cannot take any head they want and stick it on any body they want if said heads and bodies weren't made to connect with each other.
As for why they went with the Voyager mold instead of the Deluxe one at the time that this head was made, the Deluxe Bulkhead toy didn't even exist yet.

I used to feel the same way, until I realized that every dollar I saved on shipping was being spent on gas. Sometimes I would drive 25 miles away and return home with nothing to show for it. The thrill of the hunt wears off after a while.
Also, I wouldn’t think $100 figures will be big sellers in Asian toy stores that specialize in kids lines. It would be the equivalent to finding Millions Publishing exclusives for sale at TRU. Maybe a handful of Asian hobby shops that cater to collectors will carry the Cloud line. But not retail chains that target kids. What parent is going to buy them for a 5 year old to rough play ? In my travels to the Philippines, retail chains at malls only had regular Hasbro figures. I hit up a few hobby shops and found a variety of Takara, Gundam, and 3rd party products.

Items domestically available in the U.S. tend to cost a lot less on BBTS and TFSource than imported TakaraTomy items on the same sites do.
Likewise, those who live in Hong Kong who buy from RobotKingdom have less to pay for shipping costs than those who live in the U.S. buying from the same site do.
If these Cloud toys were being made by Hasbro, Inc. in America instead of by TakaraTomy, chances are they would cost a lot less for American consumers than they do now, regardless if they were still sold online or in stores.

And don't worry. The Cloud fiction is more based around dimension-hopping than anything, as the story with Optimus and Megatron had them going to the G1 cartoon universe, while the Brawn & Starscream story has them going to the Armada cartoon world. Completely free of grossness.

TakaraTomy, not Hasbro.
Whirl is That bad?? I have and love him to be honest however I don't think that mold would make a good shockwave.. However a Rodimus from springer would be cool

Besides, how many of these have we had so far? Only Kiss Players and 15 Go! Go! Technically we could count T-AI from RiD too, which was before Kiss Players.

The primary location of the line's fiction is a dimension called "Cloud World".thedistinctroom wrote:Why is this range called "Cloud"? Is the TF multi-verse, when viewed on a diagram, a cloud of some sort? Idk.
As for why, I dunno. Japan sometimes uses words that sound weird to us but might be fine for them.

Possibly because the characters are from an intangible dimension? Or the toys are simply out of reach for most.

In other words, dull. Sorry, but between the AOE 2-pack release being toy accurate and this cloud release being show accurate in their colors those 2 come across as the LEAST exciting releases of this mold thus far. True, each one has one point of major interest between lots of chrome on one and a G2 soundbox reference on the other, but on the whole they're very straitforward and meh. Neither of these will replace Henkei Convoy IME.

It's very plausible actually, as all Cloud releases have been Voyagers so far, and molds and retools initially skipped by TakaraTomy (excluding Prime and Rodimus should he be next of course).
However, this is all rumor and speculation at this point, even until the 4th and final releases.

TFC-D04 is Hellwarp, a redeco of Generations Sky-Byte in Skywarp colors. The name "Hellwarp" is likely a homage to the Beast Wars II iteration of Starscream who upgraded into a robotic shark form called "Hellscream", with this figure likewise replacing the first part of the Seeker name with "Hell" while retaining the name's second part, giving us "Hellwarp".
TFC-A04 is Roadbuster, a redeco of Generations Roadbuster in the colors of Energon Ironhide, who was named "Roadbuster" in Transformers: Super Link, the Japanese version of Energon.

Thanks to Seibertron member Sabrblade we learn that Hellwarp is a Skywarpish homage to Beast Wars II Hellscream, an upgraded cybernetic shark form of Starscream. Roadbuster is a homage to Energon Ironhide who was called Roadbuster in the Japanese version of Energon, Transformers Super Link.
Check out our galleries of Energon Ironhide and Beast Wars II Hellscream to see how the homages compare.

And my God! I thought Brawn was a lame homage to a D-list character among great repaints of A-list characters like Optimus, Rodimus, Megatron, Starscream, and Shockwave. Energon Ironhide? One of the most reviled toys and characters in Transformers history.

Also, this gives me an excuse to get this mold and still buy Fansproject's Roadbuster. And Recoiler and Riftshot whilst I'm at it.
(As for why this character is getting a homage, remember that Superlink was a lot less painful in Japanese- the animation still sucked and the plot was still kinda dull and overlong, but AFAIK the voice acting was decent and the dialogue actually made sense. Also I don't think Roadbuster/Ironhide was anywhere near as annoying in Japanese as he was in the dub- similar case to Chibi-Usa from Sailor Moon and poor, poor Shinji Ikari from Evangelion.)
As for Hellwarp? Weird, but I do like it. I'd love to get the Hellscream mold some day, so maybe when I have him and RID Sky-Byte I'll get this and have a trio of "Shark Seekers".

It's a little bit of both actually. you'll understand the colors chosen a bit more once you see Hellscream's original form:
BWII Starscream's colors happen to be close to G1 Skywarp's colors (by coincidence, as it was originally meant for G2). So in a sense we have a Hellscream in his original Jet colors, which can double as a Skywarp homage, hence the name. Just be open-minded about the purple, it's such a hard color to get right.
And I'm calling it now: Cloud Roadbuster repurposed as SG Roadbuster

I'm thinking the connection to BWII Starscream's colors are a bit more coincidental, with the whole warp part of the name. Granted the Hell part is clearly drawing the connection to Hellscream (who was BWII Starscream and all that). So it's a Skywarp homage in color scheme and name, but the naming convention follows suit with Hellscream. Kind of like how when Hot Rod was upgraded into Rodimus Prime. He's an updated Hot Rod following the Optimus Prime naming convention, more than an homage to Optimus Prime.

Yeah, that's what I was going for when I first mentioned it. Guy with a Seeker name (Skywarp) gets a shark form that has the first part of his name replaced with "Hell" while keeping the same part of the name (Hellwarp).Powered Convoy wrote:JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Powered Convoy wrote:No new tooling on Roadbuster.

Based on Armada Sideswipe, as Universe 2003 Treadshot was a repaint of him. No relation to G1 Treadshot.
