Wow, that is some serious back kibble those individual figures are sporting. Just another reason to not feel guilty for passing this up.

right because you never intend to combine them if you do own them and because kibble has been total taboo from Transformers for 30 years. what are you even expecting?

*Sigh* I think the individual figures look, honestly, really crappy. The Combined form is great, no arguing that, but honestly, I don't get a sense of awe when looking at it, the arms look a bit to small and the head is, while perfectly G1, very simple. I'm not trying to aggravate the Devastator fanboys out here, but I'd take any of the 3'd Party figures over this guy. At least they all have elbows, even the legends scale one.

@Randomhero

He's got a fair point of the individual figures being somewhat lacking. I'm sure lots of collectors display combiners individually; I do, Sometimes I just dismember a combiner and pose my fleet of figures.

So wanting a nice set of individual figures is equally important to some, as a cohesive combined mode is to others. I will not buy this set so long as it is tremendously underpainted, and/or lacks individual elbows. I won't go 3P, I'll just miss out; but I have my rules and Devestator breaks them.

Considering Hasbro has very intelligently not shut down 3P groups who are clearly infringing on their IP I don't see how anyone is spitting in anyone's face. Hasbro has clearly been watching the 3P stuff to guage what fans want but what most can't afford and have been carefully constructing well engineered official competition for 3P buyer's attention.

Yeah, well, I'm sorry, but this guy is a bad seed compared to the fantastic things Hasbro is putting out in Combiner Wars. I'd rather know I was putting the money into something that had way more thought put into it and actually is articulated fully. I am not trying to be rude, but until fairly recently, Combiners were something I dreaded, mostly because Hasbro had failed in the past with the Energon line Combiners and the FOC Bruticus. But when we got to see Combiner Wars, I had such high hopes for Devastator. But, I think they rushed it. Scrapper's arms are a perfect example, would it have killed them to install a locking mechanism or a heavy ratchet to keep them stiff in "heel" form? The same with Long Haul's tiny arms, I get they have to keep out of the way in combined form, but surely they could have them flip around to the back of the big guy or fill out the torso more.

I like Back kibble.

I like that when they are in individual robots, I can still tell who is who. The alt mode parts are part of their visual appeal to me and if they had found some clever way to completely hide what vehicle had turned into what robot... I wouldn't be interested in transformers in general. I LIKE that when you look at prime he looks like a Semi-truck that stood up. Prowl without his wing doors?!? I just can't accept a prowl without Wing Doors. (In fact sold off the alternator ones because the doors weren't in the right place... GOTTA be able to read 'police' when he's looking at you.)

SOME figures take it to unhealthy levels and look stupid. These ones don't come close to that line for me. Everything's there... but it's tucked up nicely.

Mixmaster is questionable... I'm not a fan of him tripoding in that picture there... hopefully balance won't really be an issue and was just a poor display.

Sigh.

Devastator is not looking good. And given the only good options for him are over £300...I might just collect as many non-combining Constructicons as I can instead.

That was what I aimed that comment at, sorry, I think the back kibble on most of these guys looks damn good, but Mixmaster is missing that barrel in the back look that he had in original.

Absolutely agree! I love kibble, when it's on purpose and correctly placed, not like this:

I know, I know, it's gimmick kibble, but C'MON!

It looks to me like 4 out of the 6 do have elbows. Regrettably two appear to not. And now I'm getting questionable on him.

While I think the SDCC looks far better in terms of deco, I prefer the visor, but retail Devastator looks very bland :/
I have a friend gong to SDCC, so if he could bring me one, I might bite, but I'll probably buy my very first 3P product when someone inevitably releases better arms for them, I can forgive Scrapper, he reaaaaally needs to hold a very heavy load, but why Long Haul? And Mixmaster and Hook are really pushing it, I wish all had articulation on par with Bonecrusher and Scavenger, those two do look fantastic.

its not a rushed toy.the production time for a figure is a year to two years from design to finish. theyve explained already that scrapper was designed to give Devstator optimal support . hes not a brick, you can pose him just fine. its a good figure and its great that theyre even creating one with all 6 members. and considering that online retailers have sold out of preorders, im not the only one who thinks so.

Indeed, however, for me, every poseable mode (vehicle = hotspot, robot, beast mode, combined mode) needs to have AT LEAST basic articulation, otherwise, why bother if all they can do is some G1 style brick poses?

Also there's nothing to say, other than budget, that they could have given Scrapper elbows and bicep swivels, and simply spin them 180 degrees, maybe even have a large strut fold across the foot from the shovel, or something for the hands to peg into.

That's the problem though we don't know what constraints they were under to design this figure(s). Unless someone knows someone who works as a designer then we can only speculate. I really doubt it was their intention to screw over the articulation of the individual figs. Sacrifices would have to be made

I know, but it just does not make sense that Hasbro, who has been on a goldmine lately with toy design, would make such a huge sacrifice for a figure.

Half of the Hasbro people that made your childhood great are either retired or 6 feet underground. I doubt the original artist who drew Devastator 30 years ago is getting a penny for this new figure. And if I win the Powerball tomorrow and buy Devy-sized stock in the Transformers brand, you’ll be supporting me, lol. So please stop patronizing us about how buying "official" is supporting the creators of G1 because it's not. It's supporting the people who inherited G1 from its creators. The Paris Hiltons and Kim Kardashians of the Hasbro empire. Don’t get me wrong, when Hasbro makes cool figures, I buy them. And I buy a lot. But CW Devastator just isn’t cool to me. It's out of scale, overly simplified, and Mixmaster flat out sucks with his toilet truck mode and Waspinator bug butt. I own both Hercules and Giant which are by far better figures and I don’t need this thing.

I'm one of those that displays their combiner bots in the individual bot modes (*gasp* the horror!), and agree with you. Devy has a lot of issues for my tastes, but I'm still holding out hope that TakTom's version will sway me because I WANT to love this.

I know but only thing I could add is that maybe they give it a budget to stick to based around the size class and how many sales they could predict for it. They would want to leave themselves a nice profit margin still.

My only real complaint is the dull green paint job in vehicle mode. It IS a little boring. It's fairly ACCURATE and I can understand why they did it. But when you look at the rest of the CW figures you see stripes... You see decals... you see varying paint schemes that make the figures a bit more vibrant. I really am hoping for either TT to do something interesting (which I personally doubt as that would back away from G1 and Cartoon appearances) or some reprolables to add little warning signs or construction stickers or SOMETHING that adds a little detail to the vehicles.

But it's a minor complaint 8)

Admittedly, it was a bit of exaggeration, but as arms tend to lend the most expression and character to a pose, no elbows kills a lot of potential poses. by brick poses, I meant that that was a halmark of G1 poseability, the straight arm thing, so adding thigh and knee articulation, doesn't really fix anything for those of us that want or team to strike a cool pose :BANG_HEAD:

It has the wonderful effect of making people seem ridiculous or unreasonable for not simply and totally loving something that Hasbro releases, or that does not fit their personal interests. You don't like this product for something that really is a legitimate reason? Let me make these kinds of comments and posts against you, to make it seem like you're unreasonable and entitled because you dared to have a contrary opinion.

I like to call it "Independent Thought Shaming."

So independent thoughts are the ones from the hive mind that is transformers fandom other thoughts are somehow not independent because you Dagon declare them to be immoral. Glad you are taking notes from the Church of Scientology.

lol what? I don't declare anyone's opinion on something as trivial in the grand scheme of things as wrong; I won't call them 'immoral' because that's pretty overly dramatic and dumb. And people who make comments like the one you initially quoted do so in response to someone not fawning over some official figure, with little to no regard for how childish it makes them appear. I'm not entirely sure that my thinking that is a stupid response is Scientology-related, while making inane comments about how not liking a toy equals demanding special attention or entitlement is somehow acceptable.
But, those people who make such comments at people for not liking an official product are doing the same thing you're lamely accusing me of doing here, so go and flood them with your tears as well. Fair is fair, after all, and you yourself wouldn't want to be accused of some Scientologist-style reaction, now would you?

Holy shit, people are still bitching about Scrappers elbows? Please, those that are, do NOT become civil engineers. If you do, please tell us which buildings you design so we can avoid them.

Structural integrity is a necessity.

I don't think they would get that far if they didn't care about structural integrity but you never know. It's a scary world we live in.

Nice edit. Almost provided some context there. Almost.

Because I'm somehow pushing unofficial products, or making some kind of derogatory comments about you for preferring the Hasbro ones, or saying that the unofficial ones are superior or something, right?
Good work. This has been a laugh a minute exchange.

Agreed.

Here's something that I don't remember being mentioned anywhere... Would anyone have been upset if they had NOT designed him to being doing that handstand thing? I know it's G1 accurate, and I'm generally in the G1 boat.... but I always thought that was a weird look back in the day. Gave him some kind of a high heels looking foot.

If they had found a way to drop his head down and flush his shoulders... then raise the plow up a little he could have stood on Scrapper's shoulders instead of using his arms like that. And still look the same from the front.

Sounds more stable too... They updated Mixmaster a bit, I'm kind of surprised they didn't find something better then 'handstand mode' for Scrapper...

You're right in context there is absolutely no difference and the edit changed literally nothing about your statement. I am glad we could agree that you simply wasting forum space that could be used for actually talking about transformers toys.

To not only get on your level of intellectual discourse, but to also contribute as much to the thread as you have, I will simply ask: I know you are, but what am I?

...actually, that put me quite a few steps ahead of you. Sorry about that.

I got some transformers fan really upset and he decided to purposely misinterpret what I was saying to fit his agenda which is expected from emotionally charged people on the internet. It's a sad thing that will unfortunately keep happening as long as the internet persists.

Yep. Trolls.

I don't know why, but when I measure out 18 inches in height, it looks smaller than in the pictures. I guess it's a known fact that transformers look bigger in the pictures than in real life. >:oP

Probably due to the lack of good size comparisons that can me made from these photos.

Yeah, I have thought this since the first reveal. The handstand mode has always been dumb to me, and for all the 'structural integrity' stuff, I'm often surprised that noone points to that as something that could have been improved on. I know it's how G1 did it, so people would have complained were it changed, but there's probably a better way for Scrapper.

So Nonnef has posted their fix package for Devastator, and it is a long one. Not sure how everything will pan out, but it is interesting to see. Wonder how their quality is? Wouldn't mind picking up some decent hands for my Galvatronus.

I really enjoyed reading what you had to say, well said.

The hardest part is picking a version. I mean how long have we wanted something like this, we finally get a good scale, level of detail, individual articulated bots, an articulated master combined form. What more do we really need? Other then some paint stuff which is repro-label solvable I think its fantastic.

I think Hasbro knocked it out of the Park. The combiner wars and generations series has been the only thing keeping me interested in Transformers. This line in particular the combiner wars has been amazing when you consider what we have been given and at the cost point compared to a 3rd party offering.
