Whaddya mean "Not a Transformer"? Of course he is! He turns into an alien spacecraft, but a much nicer one than Megatron from the first film.tigertracks 24 wrote:Not a Transformer. Interesting, but yeah...

Only... you can break him into a few hundred parts and make something cool out of him.
But this.
THIS is why Animated must be canceled?
Disgusting.
I understand kids are malleable, but are things that look like a bunched of mismatched cables things they can identify with? Things they will look back in 20 years on and go, "Oh, I had the fallen"... he was a COOL figure!"
...I just don't see it. But what about a kid who had an Animated figure?
On a positive note... ...Beast Machines Strika now has a boyfriend.

In other words, trying to beat Terminator : Salvation to the punch.

I see we have gone from Decepticons with no hands to ones with 8 fingers per hand. Hmmm. Must be compensating for the last movie line of figures.

This guy is more like Aliens or Stargate material. The only think that makes him a Transformer to me is the con symbol.

This is 2009 for crying out loud.
A good number of Transformers, Gundams and most other toy lines having anything to do with "robots" cream this ten times over.

So far as we know, this time we're getting Leader Class Megatron, Jetfire, and Optimus. I'm sure they'll get their share of repaints, but I wouldn't rule out a Leader Class Fallen.
And comparing Voyager Megatron and Premium Leader Class Megatron shows just what a difference that could make.
On a side note, when I look at this, I think "Jhiaxus".

sure they could have made the movies with cartoony looking characters
with unrealistic physics and pretty much CGI the hole thing, but then
we would have a CGI cartoon and not somthing realistic

Although I don't like many of the movie figures I have to agree that they are much more realistic than a CGI boxy thing. What looks cool in a cartoon/comics won't definetely look cool in a real movie. Are all superheros/badguys 100% comic-accurate in their movies?Just remember Green Goblin, some of the X-Men,Punisher ect.....

You see, the thing with aliens, is that due to the fact that they are aliens, and come from alien planets people expect them to look a bit... y'know... ALIEN!

If you look down on people that are passionate (even to extremes) about something, how do you qualify as a proper moderator? They were already aliens in G1 without looking this ugly. Check out the pre-Earth comics and verify that their cybertronian modes can be much better. Most of us are aware that the movie aesthetic is incredibly hard to translate into an affordable action figure, add to that the decreasing quality in materials, and multiply by misguided color choices and applications. Yeah, we whine because we're not getting what we want, isn't this one of the purposes of a forum? Some of the responses may be negative, but not half as much as your condescending comments.

I'm more than old enough to remember exactly what they were like in 1985, but I'm also educated enough to know the difference between a branch of the franchise designed entirely for kids like Animated, designed for the collectors like Universe, and the modern version designed to attract Sci-Fi and Horror fans new to the transformers mythos via these Movies.
Each style is designed to attract a different type of fan, ergo the movie designs are based on contemporary sci-fi and how aliens are perceived in modern cinema to attract the audience.
Yes, the Fallen looks like crap from fanboy perspective, but if you are able to look past the mullet-tinted aura of the 80s its a fantastic Geiger-esque villain that will appeal to those who prefer the horror aspect of Sci-Fi over 25 year old cartoon kitch.
If my responses seem negative, its from everyones perceived lack of willingness to accept this pretty straightforward fact.

The images in the trailer look amazing but it does not seem to have translated well to a toy.
I am not a fan of this one but I will definately be buying a Side Swipe for myself and my son. I am sure that I will be horn-swaggled into buying the Skids and Mud Flap for him too.
I can't wait to see the leader class Jetfire. I am hoping it's totally terrible so I won't drop $50 on it. Who am I kidding, I'll buy it anyway. Part of me also hopes that there is either no larger version of the legends Springer toy too or that Hasbro gets lazy and just repaints Incinerator so I can pass on that one too.
If Jetfire is awesome and there is larger version of the new Springer (with hands like the legends class) than I am going to have to get a second job.

Many of you are way too fixated on G1 and whatever your idea is for what a Transformer "should" be. I'm a huge Transformers fan and have been ever since I saw the G1 shows on TV as a kid. Hell, I've got movie Barricade and Universe Fracture standing proud on my desk here at work right now.
But I'm also a huge fan of Armored Core, Macross, Chrome Hounds, Gundam, Patlabor, Zone of the Enders, and just about anything else that has giant killer robots. The movie designs are definitely different from the old G1 designs, but that doesn't make them BAD. If you look, you can see lots of influences from other series (for example, that new bulldozer Constructicon with four legs looks a LOT like an Armored Core design).
This toy of the Fallen actually looks kinda cool to me. Like a cross between Anubis from Zone of the Enders and the Griffon from Patlabor, with a little bit of Alien queen thrown in. Plus it transforms into a badass jet, and apparently the character teleports in a big ball of fire in the movie. If you can't see how that's awesome, I wonder how you manage to enjoy anything in this world.

Wow, what an extremely nerdy statement. The point is the designs for the movie characters are extremely unoriginal, for all the reasons you mentioned. It's just a rehash of everything that's been done before, in some lame attempt to make him look cool to a more mainstream audience.
Keeping the TF movie design closer to the original source material would actually be more visually striking than what they've been doing, simply because we haven't really seen that on the big screen, with the exception of the old TF movie. Instead we get these horrible looking Aliens-Predator-Terminator-Mecha amalgamations.
Unless you're a hopeless fanboy, you have to admit the last movie was garbage, and this new one will be more of the same. That's the sad truth.
