Skull GRINs because he's got a lower jaw. Without it, he would just be called "Skull".

Nah. Core class figures based on the inner robot. Updated with more convincing alt modes and transformations. They can also transform into a more compact form, vehicle mode would work for some, so they can fit into deluxe sized hollow (articulated) shells. This can probably all fit into the deluxe budget. If not then voyager. I honestly would be fine if they just made the inner robot, and someone made upgrade kits with a slightly articulated. shell.

The issue with that though is then the Pretenders are then out of scale when you use the Masterforce versions where the shells were smaller and the inner bots were the same size as most of the other Transformers seen.

Personally, if we got them at voyager price points, I'd want them to include figures of the shells that turn into weapons like Peacemaker from Pointblank, and then also include armor that attaches to a deluxe size inner bot Ultra Magnus style to homage the Marvel comics version where the shell was still full size. Whether or not the pretender armor would have a human face or go with a robot face is up to the designer, though I'd be fine either way

What story? This is the first I've heard of this

Hasbro initially pitched and planned for Override to be a heavy retool of Hot Rod, Takara instead countered that by figuring out a way to make an entirely new mold for her with the budget of a retool (she only uses 4 mold-sprues instead of the 12 or so other Voyagers do).

Same thing happened with Cosmos, he was gonna be a retool of Origins Bee.
