After our last article covering the mere existence of Studio Series Devastator, among other things, Twitter user @thepr1me1nat0r, snapped some pics of the Studio Series Devastator prototype! Here, we get to see the big Studio Series combiner in full detail. This may end up being recycled for a Leaked from Cybertron, but that's merely speculative. We also just get to see how big he is, which isn't a shocker, considering he's comprised of eight figures. Of course, each toy can transform into a robot, unlike the Supreme toy back in the day.

So thought's on this new Revenge of the Fallen Devastator toy? Tell us your thoughts in the Energon Pub forums below!

It's awesome to see proper movie Constructicons that combine to form Devastator! However, there's no way I want a ROTF Devastator enough to hunt and spend that kind of money. Personally I'd be happy with one of the EZ legends sets. With that said does anyone have any experience with the knock off version that can be found on ebay? Is the unbranded legends Devastator worth the $16?

Quite the surprise they actually managed to pull it off. That would mean 100% accuracy is officially off the table.

Speaking of accuracy, so far all vehicles have been accurate, and licensed. I don't see that changing for Dino. I mean, Stinger got its Pagani Huayra model, promoted from its unlicensed approximations, redecos, and Camaro model from his Bumblebee redeco from AoE!

Now that's interesting. Normally I'd call it a mistransformation but Prime's chest pieces are just gone. Maybe they'll be removable for the Jetfire combination (like a new chest piece that plugs in), but I'm thinking it wouldn't be hard to turn this into DOTM Prime with some third-party add-ons! :-?

Well, technically speaking this Devastator is missing a Constructicon compared to what it was in the movie, so it seems they left that last one out so they had an excuse for them not being there. :SG-CONS:

Hot. Damn.

Megatron?? Hell yeah! That truck mode makes it all worth it!!

Optimus and Jetfire?? Also hell yeah!! It'll be awesome to have another go at that, and it means that I feel even better about being ok with not getting the SS Prime.

Bonecrush, Frikkin Bonecrusher baby!! My favorite movie con is getting a proper large toy at last!!!!!!!!!

Shatter looks so gooooooooooooood and cooooooooooool, I love her. I also love how her and Dropkick in the SS line so far transform into the alt mode that seems to take up more distinct features in their robot modes (Shatter looks far more muscle car with some jet parts, while Dropkick is dominated by the cockpit and robot blades).

FRIKKIN HELL TO THE FRIKKIN HELL YEAH DEVASTATOR BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will buy all 8. I anticipate that Scrapmetal and Hightower are deluxes, Long Haul, Mixmaster, Rampage, and Scrapper voyagers, and Scavenger and Overload as leaders, with maybe Mixmaster or Scrapper falling to deluxe and Overload to voyager. Scavenger has to be Leader class though. And that is awesome to think about.

Also, Scrap Metal really seems to share some cues from the CW Devastator Scavenger, which is really awesome.

As of now, Studio Series is OWNING 2019!!!

Welp, time to go into Negative Nancy mode.
1. As I suspected, they're ripping us off by only giving us one gun with Optimus.
2. It's Jetpower Optimus, Hasbro. Jetwing is the flight pack from Dark of the Moon. Pay attention to your own damn terminology.
3. Yep, it's definitely no more accurate than the ROTF Leader figures' combo; even less in some ways.. And it's using Optimus' single gun as a pathetic half-assed substitute for the actual BFG. I guess the legs are more functional and actually gain in height, but... Meh. If they wanted to do Jetpower Prime, they should have made a special release of Optimus with an add-on set that existed as the Jetpower parts and nothing but. There's even precedent via the DotM line!
4. Jetfire's axe would look better with the axe head being done as a piece that clipped onto the top of the landing gear cane, for accuracy's sake.

Now that that's out of my system.
Jetfire on his own continues to look more awesome. The new Constructicon toys are all looking good. Drift has his first good toy. The Studio Series is really coming into its own.
It leaves me really torn because they're cool and getting better but don't scale too well with figures outside the line (Unicron Trilogy, CHUG, the regular movie lines, which tend to shoot for ~1/32-ish for most characters and attempt to have robot modes scale even if vehicles don't)... I like them but at the same time most wouldn't go with the size I'm already invested in :(

Okay, might've been a negative Nancy a few posts ago about Jetfire.

But I do really like ROTF Devastator, the mix colors and that he's more of a slough or something. I like my Supreme one but the legs are small and he's heavy as @@!#$%. + the individual parts don't have a robot mode.

Now this guy looks great! And the new Longhaul also looks great, better than the voyager we got which is my favorite of the Constructicons. I never liked Rampage but I think him being a voyager sized would make him a better toy and less flimsy.

Another random Constructicon is always welcome if he has a humanoid robot mode. I do like the fact they went creative with the Constructicons. I just don't like the 2 wheeled guy and the drill body guy. Mixmaster was te-ri-ble as a toy. I hope they simplefy them a little.

I'm up for that Studio Series Devastator, reading his parts have robot modes.
I think I'll still keep Supreme Devastator because he also looks cool.

Shatter looks great, can't wait for the Cybertronian toys to get news items!

I'd like to see a new RotF Soundwave. But if you mean the Cybertronian modes from the Bumblebee Movie I guess you can use the SIEGE figures for that and maybe that's even intended that way by :HASBRO: ;)

Thanks. Yeah I really like this. The face came off way easier than on the yellow one (which was likely stuck cos of paint) and I'm pretty happy with him overall. Think my only disappointment being no background card display for him. Not a big deal at moment cos I haven't the shelf space at present to display all the figures with their backdrops but I would like to.

Speaking of background cards, i take it Devastator likely won't have one due to size and that he's sold as many separate smaller figures? Still amazed they're even doing this whole thing. :)

Also I wonder if those shoulder holes on the new Studio Prime (for Jetfire parts) can fit the tabs of the swords on the first Studio Prime so I can store them on there.

If I can find it cheap enough. I wanted the gold VW to be a seperate Goldbug but the gold camaro doesn't really have a character it could be but I'd still like it. I've spent so much monies lately though and I wanna be saving up for all these extremely awesome upcoming Studio toys.

And it's been confirmed that this Devy is eight-piece, so there's only one component vehicle missing this time.

Technically, this Devastator also omits two components. Scrapmetal wasn't actually part of Devastator in the film, he seems to be filling the role of this guy on the new Devastator.

Makes it more appealing to me since I'm not generally a combiner fan anyways so I'm quite happy seeing them as seperate individual purchases that happen to combine into a cool monster when I have the lot and I actually do want all of them (which again is rare for me in regards to combiner teams) since I'm kinda addicted to collecting Studio Series and big fan of the movie designs. :) I suppose individual ones can be more difficult to collect since you have to be sure you find them all rather than available in one big package though but we'll see how it goes. Am curious to know how much it'll all cost when done being that it's a mixture of deluxes and voyagers.

Well so far we're looking at 70 ish from what we've seen so far (two deluxes and a Voyager) I think there's rumours that scavenger may be a leader, which if true adds another 50 to the price.

knowing that they confirmed he is made of 8 members, this thing is going to most likely cost around 200-250.

I think we are looking at a minimum of 3 deluxes, 4 Voyagers and 1 leader for a total of $230 on the low end. That would assume Mixmaster is a deluxe and Overload is a voyager. If those 2 are instead voyager and leader, then we're looking at about $260.

So the reality is we're pretty much getting 2 titans in 2019.

Just make a comparison with CW Devastator. He consists of six Voyager class figures and how much did he cost? $150? So now you probably get a combiner consisting of 8 figures in different classes from Deluxe to Leader and pay about $225. Of course they are a bit more expensive because they are packaged separate and SS figures have "more" paintapps and "more" parts because of "improved" transformations.

So we have the following revealed so far for Devastato:

Long Haul
Scrapmetal
Rampage

So there are 5 left right?

I assume Hightower, Misxmaster (No clue how that will turn out), Scrapper and Demolisher will be next, but who wil the last one be?

Overload.

I do not mean Scavenger, I mean Demolisher. I am sure thats what Hasbro is gonna do since they are incorporating two things in one with these releases. Giving the individual constructicons with robot modes we saw and making them combine into devastator. Scrapmetal is a perfect example of what they want to do. Technically none of this is accurate since all the componets for Devastator were drones with no robot modes. But clearly, no one wants that.

ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Why would they have him combine with Movie 1 Prime and not the ROTF-labeled one that's currently out? Because Movie 1 Prime has been modified to actually support the combination. And to have a chest that doesn't look like it used the 2007 Optimus toys for reference.

As I stated previously, the only change to Optimus' body between Movie 1 and RotF is just that he's a bit more weathered in robot mode. It's a very minor cosmetic thing. There is literally no reason you can't use "Movie 1" Optimus for ROTF scenes. Obviously you'd have to borrow the inferior previous version's swords for some of it, but then you'd have to do that for his fight with Bonecrusher anyway.

Also as I stated in my comments, I get that there was really very little between movie 1 and RotF Optimus Prime, however I just thought the whole point of the SS line was to go for super accuracy, something none of the previous movie tie-in lines were able to do. I guess that just goes out the window here?

Besides I'm not looking to have Optimus fight Bonecrusher or anyone else. I don't collect SS as a general rule, but I just thought the combined Jet/Optimus was cool, as would be a *possible* Devastator. I'll still get it, just a little disappointed at the lack of forward thinking by Has/Tak that's all.

Its still the most accurate line we ever had, but it stopped being perfectly accurate a while back. I mean, what the fuck is Shadowraider?

Just because they didn't transform in the movie doesn't mean they don't have robot modes.

Yeah I thought we cleared that up ages ago. :P Yes they don't look much the same but that it was it is and hey maybe it's what happens when they choose alt-modes like their leader.

Which is perfect proof that not everything in the studio series line is screen accurate.

Looks like Hasbro dragged me into the SS line after all. I don't really collect the movie line figures, being mainly generations for my collection. My only SS figures so far are 3 Thundercrackers that are just bodies for Scorponok, Fangry and Overboard from Titans Return (with Thunderwing and Apeface currently sporting Nitro Zeus bodies.)

But now, I'm going to have to get at least 1, probably 2 Cogmans (cogmen?) to be bodies for Ramhorn and Lione unless I can find any more TLK cogmans at Ross/TJMaxx/Marshalls cheaper. I have one TLK Cogman that already belongs to Shuffler.

Then they hit me with Devy. All 8 will be bought on sight. Just when I was going to skip some of the Siege figures and save me some $$$. Well played Hasbro, well played.

Not when it comes to characters with a negligible, "blink-or-you'll-miss-it", amount of screen time, or at the very least army-builders. Kinda scary thought for Sideways and Jolt, where would they fall?

Just to clear a few things up:

Constructicons were a dime-a-dozen in RotF, the same type of vehicle came in different colors throughout the movie, the giant mining excavator and the bulldozer most notably so. Put bluntly:

Demolishor: white excavator, unceremoniously executed in Shanghai at the beginning
Scavenger: red excavator, part of Devastator

Rampage: red bulldozer, fought Bumblebee in Egypt
unknown bulldozer: yellow, part of Devastator.

That only goes for the movie, mind you: the toys used the "Devastator" colors for the individuals upon initial release, later redecos had the correct movie colors... for the most part. Rampage lucked out in a sense by being the right color for the character, but the wrong color for Devastator. As for the excavator... most definitely red, I don't care what name they're gonna use. More than likely they'll be redecoed in their alternate colors later, using alternate names

I just hope this line will give us options on who to include in DEVASTATOR, because I like Demolishor’s color scheme slightly better than Scavenger’s, and it would be nice to have the option of replacing Overload with Bonecrusher.

Bonecrusher's body type isn't even one of the Constructicon types in the film!

My point about "Movie 1" Optimus is that he's more accurate to both movie 1 and ROTF than the original SS Optimus. And that Jetfire combines with him rather than the existing "ROTF" one because that one lacks the connectors; it'd be like trying to combine Godbomber with the original Hasbro Powermaster Optimus Prime.

However, with Scrapmetal getting a toy they seemed to be going for the overlooked members this time around. So if all - as in really all, all 9 of them, nobody left out this time - the component robots were in scale, then...
And it's been confirmed that this Devy is eight-piece, so there's only one component vehicle missing this time.

Technically, this Devastator also omits two components. Scrapmetal wasn't actually part of Devastator in the film, he seems to be filling the role of this guy on the new Devastator.

Fair point, but replacing him with another guy is different than leaving him and his mass out entirely.

Re: what I said about how the individual Constructicons forcing Devastator to be more to scale if they themselves were to scale... TThere's one I know won't be to scale: Scavenger. Because the Wheelbot body type is so bloody huge he would would have to be Supreme-class to be in scale, and I know that's not happening.

A glorified accessory booster pack for Lockdown colored vaguely like Lockdown's generic goons :-P It's the same BS they pulled with Ratchet and Starscream, albeit Starscream's redeco is actually canon.

Ugh, really torn on the new Devastator.

On the one hand, this thing will be ludicrously expensive to complete, nevermind the time it will take to hunt them all down. And I'm actually happy with the RotF versions of these guys (the ones they released at least, Mixmaster and Long Haul look especially good), even if they don't combine. Plus it will kinda bug me that I either have to give up accuracy for Devastator or the individual bots, since different colors were used by the bots and components in the film (white and red excavator, red and yellow bulldozer, etc). And you'll probably lose some features from the old versions too (no way Mixmaster has a 3rd mode this time).

But MAN, it's cool that they even attempted this. The movie version had to be a nightmare to design with bot modes included, and the fact that they pulled this off somehow is a minor miracle.

Ultimately, I'll probably have to skip it because of money and space (no idea where I'd put this thing at my house), but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to try.

Kind of tempted on getting the studio series stuff now, Mixmaster would have to be Voyager sized at least for it to work with the other vehicles/bots unless they go all out crazy and have two leader classes for it. Greatful for the Cogman as it will be nice to finally have one and be able to give it a traditional head from one of the spare titan masters. My Nitro currently uses ghost starscreams head tho he might get his own back when I find a Thundercracker.

The new bot cyberverse thing looks heavilly inspired by TF animated Blur for its legs so it might fall imto a basket on the way to a check out at some point.

Ok this is something I never understood, so Ratchet's "DOTM" deco is not in the film? He's still just yellowish green like the previous films?

Wow! They sure both, uh... Have broad shoulders... And leg tires.. and claws... and back protrusions I guess...
They're vaguely similar-ish, but that's about it. And those are heavily-simplified Legends-size figures to boot (Overload doesn't have the second set of arms for instance). They're still different designs with different transformation needs, and different vehicle modes (articulated dump truck vs fixed-wheelbase minesweeper truck). And the series might go with Overload's other concept robot mode design, which was very distinct.

Studio Series Bonecrusher has already been revealed in full detail. Nothing about him suggests he could possibly form Devastator's pelvis or combine at all.

Huh. TFwiki says he does have the altered paintjob (though with the yellow green still). In all my watches I somehow missed that :HEADHURTS: :BANG_HEAD: #-o

I think we're dancing around the same point. Basically the frustration of lack of Forward thinking by Hasbro/Takara. The current SS RotF Prime should have been designed knowing that fans (like myself) would want to combine it with Jetfire. In fact they should have released Movie 1 Prime first, so there would be no need to combine with Jetfire.

And yes, I'll agree about the Titans Return part. I really wanted a new God Ginrai, and was hoping that Legends GB would combine with TR PM Prime, when I found out they didn't I put off buying it, until of course the announcement of the Siege on Cybertron set. If not for being able to pre-order that set, I would not have a God Ginrai right now.

His DOTM repaint is canon. He has a more greeny-green than the yellow-green from the first 2 movies. He has this same shade of green in AOE. Here's a comparison:

SS DOTM Ratchet actually looked really good in person when I got VW Bee and Ironhide. I didn't pick him up then, but I think I will soon!

Edit: Added robot mode comparison

1. They didn't know the line's fate for certain when they released the existing SS Prime, who was just half-assed in general.
2. Why would you want to combine the first SS Optimus Prime with Jetfire when it's an inferior half-assed figure that the so-called Movie 1 Optimus Prime is meant as a replacement for?
3. Seriously, there's no smegging difference in Optimus' body between Movie 1 and ROTF in the actual movies, so what the heck id your issue with using "movie 1" Optimus as both movie 1 AND RotF Optimus?!
