He may not be the Whirl I wanted, but he looks to be a damn good Whirl regardless.

I wonder if a Kreon can fit in the pilot seat...

Actually springer was just too big. I think scale was disregarded in springer because kids think big is cool. This new whirl figure figure seems a bit shorter and is more to my liking. It should go nicely with the upcoming fansproject Roadbuster.

Well I like the stickers, only because it means that the big obnoxious autobot symbols are optional, kinda like the kre-o sets.

Stickers?! Sheesh, Hasbro's pulling out all the stops on the maximum G1-ness of this thing. :KREMZEEK:

He's not the Whirl we deserve, but he is the Whirl we need. :P

Though I actually like the AM series I can't help but point out that those stickers are more or less "necessary" to apply in the absence of paint apps in key areas while these ones are more optional. This way people can have their comic-accurate or toy-accurate versions. That said I'm sure people will complain about these.

I liked the idea of the stickers on the AM line, but sadly the execution was questionable, mostly because rather than adding extra detail they replaced paint apps. I still enjoyed adding them to my Ratchet but they are tricky and feel they are filling the wrong purpose. I loved the optional decals way back on TT's MP 3 Starscream, I loved and added the stripes to BT Skids, Gen Metroplex was a hoot, I decided not to add the faction sticker to MP Tigertrack and this, well this is a nice surprise!:D
I keep forgetting Whirl is even coming...still haven't got Rhinox and Waspinator :-(

If I never knew about that figure before and someone came and showed me that and asked who I thought it was I would say Whirl. So I'm happy with this Whirl.

I wonder if the stickers are a homage thing, or just some weird way to save money, or maybe even let the fans choose what apps go on him? As long as they're good quality stickers I'm not sure I mind, but the Arms Micron ones were a bit poo.

Him being smaller than Springer, Grimlock and them isn't a bad thing. Makes him closer in height to Classics Cyclonus at least. For "REAL GLARING ACTION!"

Stickers?! Wow. They really are going old school with this guy. Part of me says "No. Not again. You fooled me once with Metroplex, shame on you. You won't fool me twice." And then another part of me says "Okay, shame on me. Those are so getting put on."

Impressive that they added that feature, at least for the G1 fans. Guess Hasbro IS paying attention to detail. More so than we thought.

I'm not a fan of the backwards chicken-legs, but then I wasn't a fan of his original skis either so it's not like my position has changed. I'm guessing he won't be visiting the UK anyway, like the rest of his voyager mates.

I like this, but damnit hasbro, if sticker sheets are gonna be a thing again, for the love of god make replacement sheets available on your website! I have several stickers missing from metroplex because they got ripped or fell on the carpet and wouldn't stick.

I always thought Grimmy's size was due to being so damn hollow, and Springer (and Blitz) to being Triple Changers.

Don't feel un-hip; people were simply hoping for a figure reflecting his most recent and widely loved characterization from James Roberts' More Than Meets the Eye comic.

I'm with you man, I like this figure. I personally find IDW Whirl too stylized to really work in a toy form.

Re: In-Hand Images: Transformers Generations Voyager Whirl (1543536)

The only problem I see with a truly MTMTE Whirl would be getting him to stay standing up, which could probably be accomplished with simply beefing his legs and/or feet up a little, or perhaps an option to split his feet into two toes each. I'd say "have kibble end up on his ankles for support, like Prime Starscream", but Whirl's design looks like it planned everything out perfectly transformation-wise; you can see how the back half of his alt mode is essentially just his legs folded up.

It's the one I wanted so I'm happy. I don't follow the IDW comics so I'm not all that crazy about the IDW version above. I do wish he had the original ski feet rather than the Bayverse movie feet and the backwards legs aren't even accurate to the original Dorvack Ovelon Gazette figure it came from. The "gerwalk" mode is also unique to this figure, them much have thought he needed be a triple changer to sell. I wonder if you can spin his legs around to make them bend properly?

The legs can be configured into a "normal" position:

Pretty clever how they got both G1-toy-accurate and MTMTE-esque legs out of it.

You know, I was unsure about it before, pretty much not really interested. But looking at it with clear images and sort of posed decently, this is one wicked robot. It is very unlike many other transformers in how it looks, and it freaking SCREAMS robot - Everything from the monocle eye, to the clamp hands and digitigrade legs. He can swap his fists out for pure wrist weapons, and to add to the asymmetry he's got the single antena on his head. I am definitely %100 getting this figure. I don't even care that his shoulder joints are thin, they add to being the spindely sorta mech factory robot that he looks like to me. Absolutely wicked robot.

I wonder... if the head is mounted in a particular way, you might be able to deploy it and the arms in gerwalk mode, and that'd start to look more like IDW Whirl than it already does...

Ignoring stupid scale debates, Springer is actually one of the more substantial Voyager figures we've had in a long time, and he still only barely lives up to snuff when I compare him to Voyagers from certain older lines, though Sandstorm I'd say is more closely on par due to extra plastic content.

With everything continuously getting smaller, combined with a greater love of MTMTE over strait up G1, I'm barely looking forward to this release at all. Until I know for sure he can reach up and punch himself in the face, this voyager sits tenuously on the back burner for me.

Wait...

You've resisted Springer, Grimlock, and most of the 2013 line, yet you're blown away by this flimsy-looking, disproportionate piece of shit.

Are you cra--...I don't know how one could achieve this, honestly

*fixed*

I'm not sure why he's been drawn like a TFA character for a while, probably to make him seem more emotive somehow. Either way, I feel the majority of the people commenting on his IDW design are being short-sighted.

Edit: *I wrote a thing here that didn't make any sense*

All my petty arguments aside. Am I disappointed? Yes. I would have preferred it if we'd gotten some sort update rather than just giving his G1 incarnation a few joints. It's not a horrible figure though and I will be picking it up, simply because I love Whirl. I'll just assume the designer was an old fan and had a nostalgia-gasm while throwing this thing together.

I'm more disappointed by the size, I was really hoping we'd see an upturn from small voyagers after the last wave came out, I guess not.

What do you mean by 'realism' exactly? I think the term you're looking for might be "G1". Honestly I'd say most of the modern designs just add a little detail while keeping with a typically 'cartoony' style. I don't see what makes Springer seem realistic when his alt mode looks like it fell out of a video game like Borderlands or Ratchet and Clank, and his robot mode still has humanoid proportions. Unless you're just upset he doesn't look like this with a few extra joints:

We have some additional in-hand images of Hasbro's Transformers Generations 30th Anniversary Voyager Whirl thanks to the CYBERGEEKS Alliance Facebook page. These images gives us a great look at the figure in robot mode, plus his accessories and sticker sheet. Also pictured are the back of the box with bio and instructions, which reveal the name of his third mode, "Heloped". Basically a GERWALK mode. For those wondering about his size we a few comparison shots with Voyager Springer, Deluxe Skids, and Legends Swerve. Enjoy the images mirrored below.

I could honestly live without this. It too slavishly imitates the G1 appearance. Especially considering the style of the figures now, I'd have preferred his IDW appearance

Oh hey, he's not as short as I feared!

But those last pics make me sad that he's not very MTMTE-ish. Really, every pic of Whirl by himself gets me excited, then seeing him with Swerve or Skids brings me crashing right back down. *sigh*
The "chicken legs" are halfhearted at best.
