Staff member Burn has once again delved into his X-Files knowledge to be as kind as possible in his review of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles issue of the Conspiracy franchise crossover. Check out his Seibertron.com review below!

Burn wrote:
mash-up
[mash-uhp]
noun
1.Music, Slang. a recording that combines vocal and instrumental tracks from two or more recordings.
2.Slang. a creative combination or mixing of content from different sources: movie mash-ups; a web mash-up that overlays digital maps with crime statistics.

Some things are meant to go together, like bacon and cheese, or bacon and ham, or bacon and sausages, or bacon and bacon. Other things shouldn't go together, like The X-Files and Ghostbusters, or Transformers and New Avengers.

And so IDW brings us their latest chapter in their company wide mash-up, as The Lone Gunmen meet the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Following their (disastrous, let's try to forget it) meeting with The Ghostbusters, TLG head to New York City in search of alien "manphibians" (or as we like to call them, Ninja Turtles).

Unfortunately for them, and unfortunately for those of us who haven't been keeping up with the TMNT books, the Turtles have actually headed for Northampton to help Leonardo recover from a Foot Clan brainwashing.

Luckily for the Gunmen, Leonardo happens to get caught on camera and the photo uploaded to a paranormal website.

A quick detour later and the Gunmen reach Northampton and run into the Turtles who are busy rescuing Casey and April from Ronnie Strickland and his gang of vampires (X-Files fans will remember Ronnie from Season 5's 12th episode "Bad Blood").

The Turtles -vs- Vampires battle is quickly wrapped up thanks to the timely intervention of sunflower seeds, and FINALLY, three quarters of the way into the book we get back to the "Conspiracy". The Gunmen want a sample of the Turtles blood as they believe they can reverse-engineer a cure for the virus that will soon engulf the planet ... with the belief that the Turtles are in fact aliens. "We're not aliens. We're mutants."

Which pretty much goes no where. In the end, Leonardo confronts the Gunmen on his own, the Gunmen convince him of the threat and he agrees to help. How he helps them is not stated, did he give them a sample of his blood or will he be helping them in some other manner?

And so The Gunmen drive off, leaving Leonardo to watch as they disappear down the road in search of a Convoy ...

All in all, a vast improvement over the last chapter, though it did next to nothing to further the overall storyline.

Knowledge my bum. I Wiki'ed it. Image

But yeah, definite improvement over The Ghostbusters, still rather pointless in the grand scheme of things though.

I actually do like ninja turtles. But Im really starting to wonder what direction this website is heading. Is it a hasbro fan site ? Is it an IDW fan site ? Im a little puzzled what the message is here...

Why are you asking such a question? Are you confused by this crossover of IDW licenses which will include Transformers in it's next chapter?

As clever a pun as "Manphibians" is, turtles are reptiles. :-B

The cover story is all turtles and doesnt specifically mention transformers itself. So without any knowledge of the comic world, this would appear to be a TMNT story to any casual seibertron reader. Notice the absence of sarcasm in my post. I really thought you were reporting TMNT stuff. The bacon and ham thing wasnt a good enough for me to get what this was. I needed it in black and white since Im unfamilar with the nature of the comic world and its writers antics. Sorry...

That's addressed in the comic itself, actually. :D

The cover story is all turtles and doesnt specifically mention transformers itself. So without any knowledge of the comic world, this would appear to be a TMNT story to any casual seibertron reader. So? It's a crossover that's been reported on ever since the beginning of the year, and the crossovers have been reported on ever since they first started 4 years ago.

A casual seibertron reader might also be confused as to why we post news for toy stores, or voice actors that seem to be unfamiliar.

But a casual seibertron reader with half a brain cell will be able to figure out why this is being posted right with the first paragraph of this article:

article wrote:Staff member Burn has once again delved into his X-Files knowledge to be as kind as possible in his review of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles issue of the Conspiracy franchise crossover. Check out his Seibertron.com review below!

And if that wasn't clear enough, there is this line here:

All that comes way before the actual review, there are only three posibilities someone could have missed that:
  • not read the article and imminently replied to it
  • being illiterate/ not able to read English
  • stupid and unable of forming basic thoughts
Having known you for the amount of time I do, I know which of these options apply to you ;)

God these crossovers are terrible, they would at least be somewhat interesting if the franchises actually met and the characters had some interaction with each other. I mean who wouldn't want to see Donatello, Wheeljack, and Egon work one some kind of crazy invention using ridicules technobable just to have it blow up in their faces.

The whole turtles aren't amphibians but everyone mistakes the turtle character(s) for one is a staple of stories involving intelligent turtles. It's used regularly in all incarnations of TMNT as well as other things, like the film "Over the Hedge", just to mention something that's not TMNT. :-B

That's IDW's style. Traditional cross-overs would see all characters interacting, but IDW seems to just have mediators who go between the different series and that makes for a cross-over.

But yes, definitely terrible.

I saw it first in Burn's review, rather than in the comic itself, so I assumed it was just Burn being clever. But Va'al clarified that it came from the comic and that it's touched upon there. :D

Except for the "New Avengers/Transformers" crossover. ;)

Im not gonna get into a huge debate here. When I clicked on the story all I saw was turtles. When I read the article all I read was turtles. There was no mention of any Transformers characters. The only time the word "Transformers" was used was "Transformers vs. Avengers" which has nothing to do with TMNT. Maybe the hints he dropped to signal a crossover might pop out for an avid comic book reader. But when have I ever been a comic guy ?

That is better than these crossovers here simply because it has something none of them have, and that is Spider-Man being awesome. That was the only good thing about that series, which also makes it the best idw crossover to date, in fact it makes it the best Transformers crossover ever.
Simply because of Spider-Man.

So pray tell me, are you illiterate, not in possession of even half a brain-cell, or how did you manage to miss the easy to spot explanations, which I have bolded this time?

What about "company wide crossover" is so difficult to understand for someone who's not a comic book reader? I mean those are actual English words, from the English language, used by English speaking people that talk about fiction, as in TV, movies, comics, books, games, porn novels, crime novels and the like.
Or are you just not the English using guy?

I'm sure you can find an English course or two somewhere near you, learning and speaking English is kinda important in this day and age, it's pretty much the universally spoken language and lets you communicate with people all over the world.
I should know since I'm German. ;)

You're lucky.

Ever hear of a writer named Scott Ciencin? If so, then you can guess what the first book of the trilogy is like, as he wrote it and it took another author to try and salvage whatever shred trace of decency was left from the first book when writing the second and third novels.
