It's better than the orange and clear from this year.
Absolutely.
Anyone else notice the new Apetobot logo?

I'll wait for better pictures before passing judgement on the color scheme, but so far, it look fun. Way better than clear and creamy butterscotch.
2 things that will prevent me for ever buying him though. I already have the original mold and I'm sure TrU will want to sell the thing 200$ or something, based on the previous absurd YOTG prices.

I wonder if he's suppose to be G1 Prime during the Beat Era, or a new form for BW Primal.

Will most likely Pass, but it would be cool for someone to get a Prime collection going for each one of the years.

But then I again, I still don't own the Air Attack Optimus Primal mold, so my lacking that mold could be influencing my wanting of this figure. If I already owned it (or ever track down the original before this comes out), that could deter me from wanting this new one.

That head just looks really off on such a clearly Prime-like deco. It's already a heavy homage. Might as well finish the homage.

Besides, the "Year of the ____" Optimus toys are always straight redecos, never remolds.

People want Hasbro to do something in addition to Takara's MP Primal, and if this is the only thing Hasbro does, then a lot of BW fans ain't gonna be happy.

Well they only revealed two waves for next year, so it is possible that they could squeeze a wave or two in between CW and TW
Otherwise, I guess we'll have to wait 5 more years to see if hasbro thinks we collectively care about anything other than G1 stuff

You know Hasbro, they can be lazy, but they're never below pulling out a rabbit out of a hat.
Honestly, who did not expect a G1-Prime themed redeco of an Optimus Primal this year Now we wait for his companion piece.

Since it is the 20th ann. they should release optimal o/p as the companion for those of us who don't wan the fairly terrible (imo) air attack primal prime.

Also, all the other Year of The ____ Primes come with a trailer. This one obviously does not. Does that mean there will be additional stuff included, perhaps a hoverboard or another, smaller, figure? (Megabolt Megatron in G1 colors would be cool.) Or if he will be by himself, will the price be about half of the others?
And yes, I do own the other 4. I am planning on collecting all 12. Should make for a colorful display.
And if Hasbro does NOTHING ELSE to commemorate Beast Wars, that will be very pathetic on their part. It was Beast Wars that got a lot of people interested in Transformers again. Not sure just how much Hasbro has to do with BotCon, but next year's BotCon theme should be Beast Wars as well.

I own the original, it has a bunch of cool gimmicks and a slick transformation, if you can look past the immobile arms in beast mode and the gear-punching gimmick arm - and the price is fair to you - I say go for it.

I am pretty certain that is what Hasbro is doing. Wouldnt be the first time they do something like this. It's like how they commemorated the 30th anniversary with 30 (31) random exclusives (and Windblade).
I had this mold once, its pretty great and I regret to have sold it when I sold all my tfs 4/5 years ago. I am not excited for this due to how the colour scheme seems to drown out the really cool sculpting details this guy has as well as the price I expect him to be. If G2 prime would be 179$, this mold wont be less than 100$. And it isnt worth more than 50$. Will only get it at a deep discount though I hope Hasbro learns from how much the pverpriced this year's collectables. I mean, come on MP Starscream is 60$ and just as exclusive, how does this make any sense?!

There is, however, another anniversary next year that Hasbro can (and, if present rumors prove true, more likely will) commemorate: The 30th anniversary of the 1986 movie.Rodimus Prime wrote:And if Hasbro does NOTHING ELSE to commemorate Beast Wars, that will be very pathetic on their part. It just so happened that Beast Wars came out in the same year as that movie's 10th anniversary, so Beast Wars and the 1986 movie will always be in direct competition with each other when it comes to their anniversary decades.

Well, I'm a big fan of the 86 movie, but the only commemoration I can think for it is having it released on blu-ray finally. I have the 20th anniversary 2-disc set, and I'm quite happy with it. Every line other than G1 needs more attention. While I maintain that many molds didn't need 'updating' that doesn't mean that I and many others wouldn't appreciate a second run of 'Universe' old figures in cool new color schemes, with slightly re-sculpted heads or something.

No more, than the big and bulky Energon Prime and Omega Supreme, or the big and bulky Laser Rod Optimus Prime, or even the big and bulky MP-10 Prime.
If anything, this should be cheaper than any of those, and they weren't exactly break the bank expensive or anything.

HA! Dream on. Nowadays the TF prices have skyrocketed. That damn YOTG Lazer Optimus was 200$CAN, the Insecticons were 120$CAN, and Soundwave was 220$CAN. It wouldnt surprise me if that thing could go for 200$CAN at the very least. Even 300$CAN is not out of the question.
The previous YOTsomething figures were expensive, but were not stupid expensive. Are they seriously expecting to sell anything at scalper prices right off the store? I mean, WTF? Even "on clearance", all Platinum sets are stupid expensive. Let's hope TrU's suits rethink their pricing policies before they stop making YOTX TFs altogether.

Its $139.99US for G2 Laser OP on BBTS, Shipping wouldn't be more than 10 or 20 more.
Insecticons $89

I think wherever you are getting your figures from in Canada is severely hiking up the prices.
I'd be surprised if it went for more than $150US.

We can probably thank China and Japan for that. Remember that the original Year of the Dragon Optimus Prime started as a Chinese exclusive before TRU and other retailers jumped in and made this a yearly exclusive. Chinese exclusives have ridiculously high prices which were basically matched outside China (perhaps to prevent reverse importing) and set the standard for other YOT exclusives.
Meanwhile for Masterpiece figures Hasbro and TRU have a history of pricing well below Japanese retail for similar figures (with the exception of Prowl and Bluestreak) so we get some surprisingly low prices on some really great figures.
Comparing the two lines it feels like the pricing is lopsided (and it certainly is), but if you look at the country of origin you can at least see the reasoning behind it.

I blame TrU Canada's monopoly and the sheetee CAN$. Also, of the prices I told before, add another 15% in sales taxes.
Me, ordering these from BBTS wouldnt be better. I take from example, Soundwave.
Full price from TrU Canada: 220$+15%tx = 252.95$CAN.
So, that mean 190.50$US as I write this.
Soundwave from BBTS: Price plus shipping is 170.60$US. Add around 30$CAN in guaranteed custom fees and it amount to 193.30$US. So, ironically, from buying it ON SALE from BBTS, I end up paying MORE than full TrU price.
Finally, cheapest is Yahobby at only 120$US plus 24$ shipping, plus 23$US custom fees. Meaning 163$US total. That's on super sale BTW.
So, yeah, Platinum prices are hicked as fok, no matter where you buy them.
