Then there was one...Following yesterday's final today Hasbro crowned a winner... G1 Astrotrain! Thanks to fellow Seibertron user, Carytheone for bringing this to our attention.
This means that Astrotrain will be the lucky con who is returning to Walmart shelves in Spring 2020.
He overcame Skywarp in the finals, who had beaten Thundercracker. Astrotrain himself saw off Perceptor in Round 1. Now we'll have to wait and see just what form his reissue will take as he was released a few years ago but in an odd colour scheme as part of a platinum edition that also included fellow triple changer Blitzwing.
What do you think of this result? Let us know in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews.

Are we sure that there won't be any Vintage G1 Transformers figures in 2019? It would be nuts of Hasbro to leave us hanging like that. I'd bet we'll see something, but it might not be right away.

They're both grumpy, but Skywarp always sounded like the grumpier of the two to me in the show. Later continuities (which aren't these, I know) also have Skywarp as the grumpiest Seeker so that influences me too.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:But Thundercracker's the grumpy plane. I don’t know I mean thunderscrackers voice was straight up Mr Slate from flintstones. You don’t get much grumpier than that. Skywarps voice was nasally and whiney sounding. Dear god he was the stereotypical internet voice before the internet existed!

I would be suprised if there is no reissues for 2019, they will find something to plug the gap.

I would take this to mean that there will be other reissues between now and then. The folks at Hasbro aren't idiots and the brand needs to make money. If the initial reissues were successful, I'm sure we'll see more in due time. Patience young padawans!

Skywarp was a prankster and a wiseguy though.

It is entirely possible they're switched up in my head. More specifically, white and purple (and black, on his die-cast train parts) is US 1985/Takara 1986 G1, white and black is Takara 1985 G1.

Better hold off until we get more info. In particular, I don't spot the product code anywhere, and I'm not sure if the Asian division even uses them.

Take particular note of the first picture. This alleged Vintage G1 Optimus Prime release is sitting atop the soon-to-be released Transformers Siege Leader Shockwave and Leader Ultra Magnus. You can just make out "Decepticon Shockwave" on the left box and WFC-S13 on the box on the right, which is the designation for Ultra Magnus in the War for Cybertron: SIEGE line.
What do you think of the possibility of getting another reissue of G1 Optimus Prime, but without his signature trailer? Is this a hoax? A clever knock-off? A Hasbro Asia exclusive? Tell us what you think in the comments below as we delve deeper into this mystery. As always, stay tuned to Seibertron.com for all the latest news on everything Transformers!

Or, perhaps they've been retooled so that the smoke stacks extend and retract? That way, you can get them at the original full length, but if enough pressure is put on them, they'll collapse down and prevent someone from puncturing themselves, or whatever the reason is for short smokestacks in the U.S.

Pretty sure it’s just changed. MP-10 has not released didn’t have the shortened stacks so it’s very possible that’s changed since he last release which was when? 2009 when that 25th anniversary box came out?

The MP-10 one was first released in 2011, and last reissued in 2017, all with long stacks. The 25th Anniversary G1 reissue did have short stacks... as did the Asian re-release of the Commemorative Series one in 2012. Odd.

The Jada model had full-length stacks, but it might not be classified as a toy for testing purposes.
Do Studio Series Optimus' stacks collapse?

Studio Series Prime's stacks never could extend. But if this new G1 Prime has extendable stacks(pretty sure MP-10's did), that would be great. Not having them is OK too, and I will definitely pick up this Prime when I see it.

MP-10 stacks extended not due to safety tests but to hide the bottom of the stacks. You extended them for robot mode to hide the part of the curved bottom of the stack that would look like it’s connected to the cab in vehicle mode.

These aren't collapsible, I can tell just by looking at the pics that they're the same old 1-piece stacks.
And you miss my point about Studio Series Optimus' stacks; I was using him as a gauge of sorts. Judging by photos, his stacks stick up past the top of his cabin somewhat as-is, stubby though they are. They possibly even stick up as as far as G1 Optimus' original stacks. If they do stick up that far, and are not collapsible, then I'd say the standards have indeed relaxed. But I myself can't be certain.

Not really a reissue if it doesnt include his trailer but nice to see and have different price points. Megatron with out his stock would be weirder tho even if it looks like that could be a possibility now.

Not really. Kids will be able to recreate all those famous "where did Prime's trailer go?" scenes.
Even though I have plenty of G1 Prime's, I do want to pick this up simply for the fact that it's different, the packaging is new, it's "a Prime that's never been done before".

Like I said, the good part of this is it will make the overal price much more reasonable.
Let's hope he will be plentiful like Hotrod was.

I'm also going to hazard a guess that if it is real, that the other usual suspects that always get reissued will show up. Hasbro haven't given us Hound as a reissue yet, and given he was in the live-action films - that gives me some hope.
If they reissue Bruticus again...
blackeyedprime wrote:Megatron with out his stock would be weirder tho even if it looks like that could be a possibility now.
That, unfortunately, is never going to happen. Hasbro aren't in the business of making a realistic gun toy anymore.

It already did happen some years ago. By Takara, of course. Dat DOTM 2 pack. G1 Megs had a special color and came without stock.
Prime got one too but he came with a trailer. But only the "empty box" that was the DOTM trailer. So that doesn't count.

- Curved edges on the flap. The current reissues are hard edged (square)
- No Squares to the left side of "Converts to Truck to Robot and back". The others all have 2\3 squares here.
- Recycling mark on the plastic window.
- Grey border extends around the bottom and left of the window.
- Grey border follows the contours of the art too closely where usually it would be simplified
- Optimus Prime art is the 1984 Hasbro version. Historically, when Hasbro reissues Optimus Prime, they use the Japanese box art.
- All of the folded parts of the box have wear, as if creased by hand and not factory cut.
:edit:
- Window cuts off bottom of square grid
- Asterisk next to "More Than Meets The Eye". The others don't have this.
I'm sure there is more if I look hard enough.
