That thing looks terrible. I know that the figures were mis-transformed at botcon, but this look terrible. The arms are too big and thin. That's the only other Generations Voyager I'm skipping besides Rhinox. Man Hasbro, what are you on

So was this taken at SDCC?

They would have been better off repainting the Tomahawk mold and giving him a new head.

sabrigami wrote:wow. This is horribly disappointing. guess when they said he was going to be based off his MTMTE design they just meant the head. guess he would be a winner if people are a fan of his G1 design.
Didn't Hasbro say that they were going for a more Generation One toy look than his MTMTE look?
Plus, back when BotCon was kicking, those in attendance were shown a prototype (among these our news staff), and we (as in those who browse here) were told it looked like the old toy.

Hopefully we'll get some clearer pics soon. Just hope he doesn't have crappy PRID Voyager Magnus-style shoulders that wear down too quickly by virtue of being on a loose, single ball joint.

Yup, but it doesn't change the fact that it's weird that they're making all these IDW-inspired toys, and Whirl's inclusion is undoubtedly due to the comics, but for some reason they're basically copying the original toy but with added articulation.

every bit of news I saw mentioned his MTMTE design. I never read any posts about people seeing the prototype either. everything I saw mentioning him was people saying that they wanted to see the prototype. I would thing someone would have posted about it somewhere. I pay attention to both this site and a couple others and I really can't see how I could of missed that part completely but I guess I did

Yeah, you missed the initial tease. Here's a quote from what Seibertron jotted down:
Whirl (showed us sketch dated Oct 2012), then showed us design and grey model photos, has Gerwalk mode?, looks very cool, very reminiscent of G1 toy, comes with new sticker sheet
Full list is here.

Well, at this point the only good thing to me about this design is the potential for a Rotorstorm repaint.

I'll take either Rotorstorm with a new head and hands or a Decepticon helicopter, Spinister or someone like that.

Yes! More Wreckers-done-right, please Hasbro!

Now make a damn Chromedome figure Hasbro! Maybe Tarn, Star Saber, and Brainstorm while you're at it!

I am too. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I never got the original Whirl when I was a kid and he was just so cool. Hopefully this will fill the void.
I did have Roadbuster, but somehow I broke the axle connecting his legs. So an updated Roadbuster would definitely fill that void as well.

However, it is quite a bit disconcerting that a Voyager-sized toy looks so small, especially since he'll likely be going for $23 or more.

That's the second or third time I've heard someone say that.
Small in comparison to what? There's nothing else in frame that I can see to compare scale to. And besides, he'll probably be the same size and quality as Springer/Sandstorm, which is to say, tall and solid.

sixshot20 wrote:Man bit of a letdown I thought he was going to be like the MTMTE Whirl . He still looks nice as an updated G1 Whirl though.
The reason they couldn't do MTMTE Whirl is the fact that not only his skinny, curved legs would be hard to articulate, he'd be as top-heavy as Mega-class Cheetor, if not more-so. They could've done his pre-MTMTE design, though.

Holy cow!!! That.... looks.... bloody.... awful. Not seeing why this has to be a voyager figure. It's far too similar to the G1 figure with his massive torso and stupidly lanky limbs.
I think I'll be sticking to RoTF Tomahawk and HeadRobots' Drone upgrade. repainted of course.

Surely you realize that the arms are mistransformed, right?

I forgot all about the Gerwalk mode. I bet that would make him a little more interesting.

What if they used Strong ratchet joints in the legs and made his feet a tad bit wider? Like PRID Ultra Magnus's Arms? That and make the chest out of thinner, lighter plastic.
But I would have also accepted his pre-MTMTE design too, I just can't get myself to like this Whirl...

'cept Metroplex of course

No offense taken, but I respectfully disagree. At least in the voyagers' case - Springer is nearly indisputably awesome, and I love Blitzwing all the same. Guess we'll have to wait for Whirl to release before we get a final verdict either way.

And actually, Dreadwing was on display at BotCon. On that note: good Lord, he's even more mistransformed than he was at BotCon!

This.
I mean, I could understand comments like "Hey, I think it looks good/bad because x, y, and z. And I like/dislike that it looks like IDW/G1 Whirl instead of ___ Whirl. Also I'm concerned about the weirdness with the shoulder struts, but I would assume that's some manner of mistransformation."
Comments like that? I totally get. But it's just silly to comment on the "quality" of a thing you know nothing about, unless you're from the future and have a production sample on hand.

They could have easily put a new head and paint on the old generations springer and had MtMtE Whirl done really nice.
