I believe that a rewatch of the original Rescue Bots is due for me. Also, Hot Shot(?) returns!

Sorry, for whatever reason I swore there were episodes that hadn't aired yet, so I thought it wasn't officially over. Fixed!

This is not that kind of show, these are not the original characters they just share names and this show was not made for you but for younger kids so it will never be violent which is good because Transformers has never been a primarily violent show besides when it was the intention with Prime.

As for new characters don't get your hopes up since the last show only had 4 new Autobot characters join the cast not including Prime, Bee and one episode Sideswipe.

Now that I think about it this cast is the kind of thing I've been wanting for awhile, new characters and one returning from a more obscure part of the franchise also this pleases me since I wanted Medix and Hoist to be in the original show so them being here is great in my opinion.

Hot Shot being back and looking quite like his Armada version is quite the thing instead of going with some G1 character instead great to see him back, same thing with Wedge if he is anything like the Rid 2001 version although I never saw that show myself.

Whirl being a chick is interesting but no doubt some fans are going to hate it and for that I would like to quote someone from another website who said this about it.

They didn't make Whirl a girl, they made a girl and named her Whirl because that's kinda TF's thing.

As for Heatwave I welcome him back especially if he is continued to be voiced by the same guy, I assume he is a teacher and that the other Rescue bots from the last show will also be in it in a similar non major role.

Also that's a lot of episodes for 1 season especially compared to Cyberverse's 18.

It's probably a throwback to Whirl's holoavatar from MTMTE. But I am also mentally preparing myself to roll my eyes at the people who are gonna get salty about it.

I think it's a coincidence, it's not G1 Whirl it's a new character who's name is also Whirl.

Been waiting for info on this, and I'm excited! Not sure I can wait until 2019 for this...

Surprised they didn't use Brushfire along with Hoist and Medix. Speaking of Medix, FINALLY! Finally the rescue team gets their ambulance!

Also surprised to see Hot Shot, but more surprised to see WEDGE! Wasn't expecting a RiD 2001 homage to show up in a new show ever at all.

Whirlybird looks kinda cute, but MAN I hope she's handled better than Quickshadow was...

We have a small update on Rescue Bots Academy, the new animated series due from Hasbro's media productions, in collaboration with the studio Boulder Media: according to an article on CynopsisMedia, the show has moved up from a previously generic due date of in 2019 to in the fall (of 2018, we assume from the piece).

Transformers Rescue Bots Academy – which Sondon describes as “the same concept as Transformers Rescue Bots but more skewed to a preschool audience” – is slated to bow in the fall.

The article appears to also confirm the target audience - lowering the age bracket a little, perhaps - with Angela Sondon of Discovery Family also mentioning My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop's later incarnation, news we heard from the Hasbro presentation at Toy Fair 2018. You can read the whole piece here.

New episodes are a very welcome sight. Our 3-year-old has made us watch the first 3 seasons of Rescue Bots over and over and over again.

I pretend to be exasperated, but secretly I'm very proud.

Thanks to notifications from a number of Seibertronian community members, we are able to link to the first trailer for the upcoming animated series created by Hasbro and Boulder Media Studios - Transformers: Rescue Bots Academy!

Part of the same universe as the series set in Griffin Rock and for all we know so far a direct sequel with a younger target audience, Rescue Bots Academy sees the new characters of Hot Shot, Whirl, Medix, Hoist, and Wedge follow predecessors Heatwave, Chase, and Boulder in learning how to respond to emergency situations and become heroes at the Training Academy of the title. Check it out below!

A group of young Bots fresh from Cybertron (Hot Shot, Whirl, Medix, Hoist and Wedge), have the honor of being the first-ever class to enroll in Earth’s Rescue Bot Training Academy and learn how to become Earth heroes through hands-on experience.

Think goodness their starting to experiment with Optimus voices that are not Peter Cullen. (I love Peter but he cant be Optimus forever...plus honestly his Optimus voice outside of the movies has been getting dull for awhile but that's probably more on the dreaded bad written dialogue we have gotten in the last few cartoons)

Hot Shot and Whirl sound fine, it's a show for younger kids so I'm not going to expect this to be something for me.

It doesn't look too bad, the animation and designs look ok for what it is, and it's good to hear someone other than Peter Cullen voicing Optimus for a change. Once the toys come out I might get a Hot Shot and a Wedge for my nephew (I would say Whirl too, but he prefers things with wheels). I hope the toyline includes some figures with a pull-back-and-go function, because that's my nephew's favorite type of toy right now, I got him the Rescue Bots Supercharger Bumblebee for his first birthday and he loves it.

So.... Yeah. That looks like the Beast Hunter Optimus Prime design...

Got hit hmwith a baseball bat before ot was rendered in Flash Cell whatever... Its eh.

Not fond that that changed Heatwave's head to a grizzled old drill seargent, but oh well.

Kinda sad Medix didnt keep her ambulance alt mode given that Hoist is a straight up copy of his. Not thT it matters since I am not buying these, but.

Can I just say though I am ecstatic at the RID Revival? We are getting Shadow Striker in Cyberverse, now Wedge is an orange bobcat in Rescue Bots. Can I get a new Side Burn somewhere please?

Of course NOT why would hasbro give us a whole (nonG1) set?
I like the style of them (exept Prime) and would love to see them do the whole Rescue Bots team in Generations

Yeah, none of the voice cast from the previous series were carried over into this one, as it's being recorded in New York (first TF cartoon to ever be recorded there, even) instead of Los Angeles.

Flashwave wrote:So.... Yeah. That looks like the Beast Hunter Optimus Prime design...
It's more based on the new evergreen design that's being widely used now, in IDW, in Aesthetics, in Cyberverse, etc.

Flashwave wrote:Kinda sad Medix didnt keep her ambulance alt mode
Isn't Medix male?

Flashwave wrote:Can I just say though I am ecstatic at the RID Revival? We are getting Shadow Striker in Cyberverse, now Wedge is an orange bobcat in Rescue Bots.
While Shadow Striker was retooled from a RiD mold, she was a G1 character (a friend of Trailbreaker, Sunstreaker, and Sideswipe, no less), released in the first Universe line as an OTFCC 2003 exclusive.

Courtesy of Toon Boom and an interview they published with Robert Cullen, animator and founder of Boulder Media Studios - the Hasbro partner working on the upcoming animated series Rescue Bots Academy and Transformers: Cyberverse - we have a quick look at the two designs for Hot Shot and Bumblebee from the two shows respectively (you can discussion Rescue Bots Academy in its thread here).

Cullen talks about the studio in general and the recent acquisition by Hasbro and nothing specific about the shows, but if you're curious, you can look at the relevant passages below!

Boulder went from producing three projects at most to six IPs including season two of Danger Mouse and Hasbro’s Micronauts, The Littlest Pet Shop, My Little Pony: Equestria Girls and Rescue Bots Academy, all in Toon Boom Harmony. The studio is also storyboarding the latest Transformers series and its first CG animated feature film in Storyboard Pro.

With so many new productions, Boulder suddenly needed storyboard artists, concept designers and animators. The challenge became to scale up and find top talent without losing its quality and personality.

“We’ve always been quite selective about who we hire and it’s not just the talent I’m looking at; I want to know if they’re nice people and if they will fit in,” says Cullen.

Its team now includes people from around Ireland and the world, though growing from 160 to 360 seats in just over a year comes with certain concerns as well. Namely, keeping the boutique studio corporate culture it had established.

“Each project has a team with their own director and production manager — every piece feels like it’s a boutique production that people can take pride in,” says Cullen. “It doesn’t feel like we’re this vast company making random shows and we have to make sure it stays that way.”

Thanks to fellow Seibertron user, jON 3.0, we've now learned that script writing team Double Z Creative are working on the scripts for the Rescue Bots Academy cartoon, produced by Boulder Media. UK and Irish fans will recognise Double Z as the creators of Zig and Zag, regular fixtures on the old channel 4 show "The Big Breakfast" and chart toppers with their own number one single in the nineties. The pair have also seen a resurgence with their own cartoon on the BBC kids channel, CBBC (Still with Double Z handling scripts and doing voices).

Image

Also, through a report over at TFW2005, it's been revealed that the show will feature 104 episodes, though the episodes themselves will be 11 minutes each.

TFW2005 wrote:Their official website also mentions the planned episode count for the show. Equaling its predecessor; Transformers: Rescue Bots, Academy will also feature 104 episodes but at 11-minute runtime each (as opposed to the original’s 22-minute format).
” Writers on a new (11min x 104) action adventure animated series for the International market. This series is the latest addition to the hugely successful Transformers universe. “

104 11 minute episodes is basically the same commitment as 52 22 minute episodes. 52 episodes seems to be the "sweet spot" of commitment run (i.e., 4 seasons of 13 episodes).

It's heartbreaking to watch this series. I worked on the pitch for the show which I was happy about and had my fingers crossed about actually working on the series. After I heard about how they recast the original actors (most of them would probably have been more than able & willing to continue as the characters) and how they only did the voices in house in NY and LA didn't even get auditions then seeing the format of the show, I have mixed feelings about it. I'm saddened that my friends that worked on RB didn't even get considered to be in the series. I'm saddened I and other friends who are fans and would've loved a shot to be in a TF series were not given that chance. Who knows? Maybe something bigger and better is still on the horizon.

I wish watching this series (past Episode 1) was even doable at this point.

But I feel ya, Jon. After years and years of LA and Vancouver being the places for actors to record Transformers shows, for them to suddenly switch it all up and over to New York (a talent pool that's never done Transformers before) for both RBA and Cyberverse is disheartening indeed.

At long last, we got links to watch, thus far, the first 14 episodes of this show.

"Recruits Part I"
"Recruits Part II"
"If at First..."
"Tough Luck Chuck"
"Whirl'd View"
"Plan Bee"
"The Bot Who Cried Rescue"
"Mount Botmore"
"Mission Inaudible"
"Glitch"
"Five Into Four"
"Rescue Promo"
"Blame Game"
"Surprise, Medix!"

The show truly does feel like a legitimate sequel to the first show, with lots of continuity ties and references, and despite the all new voice cast, the acting is worlds better than in Cyberverse.

Though, I would also recommend switching "If at First..." and "Tough Luck Chuck" around, as the latter feels like it fits better as Episode 3 than as Episode 4.

And now, seemingly without any fanfare, I noticed last night Season 1 of RB Academny is streaming on Netflix.

It is sad because the original RB is *kind of* how my son was introduced into Transformers. It came out when he was 6, and was perfect for him, although he had seen other series thanks to me.

It is unfortunate however, as since these shows cater to such a young audience, the window for their appeal is very short. I'll agree they are well written, and teach good lessons However.... as was painfully obvious last night, my son, now 13 had zero interest in this, which is completely understandable.

I mean with the Original Series, BW, and Prime, you cant still watch those as an adult and be entertained. Not so much, especially with Academy that I'd argue skews even younger than the original RB.

So basically, I told my son this show is for his friends who have younger siblings. It is their turn to get their own show. If you have any kids ages 3-7, or know anybody who dies, let them know this is on Netflix now, and let them enjoy. ;)^
