Thanks to Stephen Zavala, of ILM (Industrial Light and Magic), we now have some closer looks and concept art of some of the Cybertron bots in the Bumblebee film on his ArtStation account. Below, we have the links to each characters individual page, as well as the humorous commentary included. Read them and take a look at the images below, and tell us your thoughts in the Pub forums below!

Arcee: Arcee from Transformers: Bumblebee. By far my fav Transformer design for the movie. For all these concepts I tried to retain the essence of the G1 cartoon designs; I grew up with them so I wanted to update the designs, not change them. Also, pleeeeeease tell me how thick her thighs are for the nth time cause I can;t wait to hear it.

Brawn: Brawn from Transformers: Bumblebee. The first Transformer I designed for the Cybertron sequence. This once was the easiest, meaning that it didn't go through a lot of changes. Few changes make everybody happy. The 3D model was done by the talented Gerald Blaise here at ILM.

Ironhide: Ironhide from Transformers: Bumblebee. The basis body of the Autobot army. Funny how this was designed first and it's not that featured that much in the final movie. Final details on the head and the chest were done by Alex Jaeger.

Ratchet: Ratchet from Transformers: Bumblebee. Ratchet was mostly and after thought after I designed Ironhide. We needed to populate the Cybertron scene with a lot of Autobots and we didn't have a lot of time to do it, so we essentially cloned my Ironhide design, changed colors, replaced heads and had them as the Autobots army. Ratchet was the only "unique" clone since he ended up being featured more prominently. And because all of this you can see the Ratchet artwork is a little more rough since I only did a quick color swap to use as a color guide (don't really love that I left those reds that saturated). The 3D model was done by the talented Gerald Blaise here at ILM.

Ravage: Ravage from Transformers: Bumblebee. A collab design done with the talented Karl Lindberg. We originally tried the puma approach but as we progressed (and began wondering why Ravage should look like a creature from Earth) we tried to make him more of a hybrid. Inspired by dragons, wolves, and the puma, we put those together for the final version.

Shockwave: Shockwave from Transformers: Bumblebee. My second fav transformer to work on. Yes, he's thicc, deal with it.

Wheeljack: Wheeljack from Transformers: Bumblebee. The very first Transformer I designed for the show. This one was the one that took the longest to approve. This was a specific characters director Travis Knight wanted in the movie so I figured it'd be better to do him first to fine tune him the most compared to other Transformers. Final head design in the film was done by Thang Le and Alex Jaeger. The 3D model was done by the talented Gerald Blaise here at ILM.

Man, why did it take 10 years and 6 films to get Transformers looking right?

These look so cool.

but I wish they officially just rebooted it, these designs would make me so much happier. I love the Bay designs and these ones, but I want them to exist entirely separately

The Bumblebee movie would have still been just as good as it is even if these designs hadn't been in the movie.

Yeah, I said it.

I agree, the part my family and I are most impressed with is the coreography at the end with BB vs the two evil bots. In everyone one of his fights, he is outmatched due to being restricted to land, and his smaller stature, but he uses his wits to beat them all. And he's got some sweet moves, there's this beautiful one where he uses his legs for a takedown. This is far more elegant than the brutish combat we see in DOTM, it's like Knight and Bay.

Ahem I was wondering how the film would be recieved if the designs used where 100% like the others that came with it.

I think I would have enjoyed the movie the same, but I like these designs better. For me, they do a better job of depicting a human-like face on a robot without dipping into the Victorian-era-doll-level of creepiness found in the later Bay films (see: Drift, Crosshairs, Lockdown, etc.)

I grew up with G1, and still love them. But they were oversimplified for a reason. These designs lack any kind of imagination. No originality at all. Though I suppose they would fit into a Fall of Cybertron cutscene.

I know they are trying to compete with cutrate overseas graphics firms, but ILM has really lost its way.

Absolutely. The real stars of this film were the better focus on quality writing, and the far more family friendly outlook overall. No stupid crude humor or out of place panty shots. Closer focus on a smaller number of characters who get some actual development. The fights you could actually follow instead of getting a blurry whirlwind mess.

The new designs were just a happy bonus.

The stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas! Bumble-bee plays at the end of your days deep in the heart of Texas! This Thursday night the Texarkana Parks Department is putting on a free showing of Bumblebee! If for any reason you’re in the area and haven’t seen this movie yet, if you’re a fan of Transformers even peripherally this is well worth your time. Per the statement from Kicker102.5:
“The Texarkana, Texas Parks and Recreations Department fires up "Movies in the Park" this Thursday night with the first feature, "Bumblebee".
For the next several weeks, The Parks and Rec people will be providing these movies Thursday nights at Spring Lake Park, the movies will start between 7-8PM and are shown in the field across the street from the old airplane. The movies are free of charge and the Texarkana Parks Department wants to promote a very family-friendly atmosphere so no alcohol or smoking is allowed”
The article states food and drinks are allowed and suggests you bring chairs and/or blankets. Gather up the kids and have an awesome night enjoying this gem of a tribute to the franchise we love and the era that birthed it.

Greetings fellow Seibertronians! So, Bumblebee did kind of well at the box office, did you hear? So well in fact that although not even the power of the Matrix itself could put its sibling company Paramount in the black, it nonetheless was able to provide Viacom with a considerable earnings boost! According to the Hollywood Reporter Viacom CEO Bob Bakish points to the studio’s new management’s schedule of movies such as Bumblebee which, he notes, was a step in a new direction "It's a better movie, the characters are better, the story is better, it's done in a more fiscally responsible way, and we're making nice money on it,".

The information was presented last Tuesday at the J.P. Morgan Technology, Media, and Communications Conference in Boston. He also discussed Bumblebee along with other projects and mergers to be the beginning steps in revitalizing Paramount Pictures. Viacom posted adjusted earnings of $383 million, or 95 cents per share, compared with $371 million, or 92 cents per share, as was posted in the year prior. Wall Street had estimated Viacom would only average 81 cents per share.

He was also presented with the current issue of trade talks between the U.S. and China and if he foresaw that impacting Viacom and other Hollywood studios. “Clearly there’s a lot of noise about China, creating some uncertainty…I don’t anticipate any long-term problem here, but we will have to see how the negotiations play out,” he said.

Viacom posted adjusted operating income of $29 million, compared to last years figure of just $9 million. There is currently estimated to be a loss of $20 million amid a 3.5 percent revenue decline, but spillover from Bumblebee supplementing the offset of theatrical decreases versus home video revenue declines.

In conclusion he stated “This quarter we executed strongly on our strategic priorities and made significant progress in advancing our evolution. We grew viewership share at our flagship networks, accelerated our Advanced Marketing Solutions and continued our momentum at Paramount Pictures. As the media landscape continues to segment across price points, we’re confident in our strategy, strong results and the opportunities ahead as we continue to position Viacom for the future”

Yay! Now they're going to see it like no Transformers movie can be successful without Bumblebee. They have been force feeding us Bumblebee for the past 12 years & now we can look forward to another 12 years of having Bumblebee rammed down our throats.

Oh joy! The Mary Sue/Gary Stu of the Transformers franchise. When standing next to Bumblebee, Decepticons become mindless idiots that just stand there & barely fight back. Really looking forward to more of that BS. Why have other Autobots at all when Bumblebee can easily destroy every Decepticon all by himself??? The war between Autobots & Decepticons raged on for millennia? I doubt it. Bumblebee could have ended the war on the first day. Even if something manages to destroy Bumblebee, he'll just magically pull himself back together with no explanation whatsoever as seen in The Last Knight.

The movie could have been just as good without the Cybertron scene entirely. However, that scene served as one delicious appetizer before the very fulfilling meal.

I'm pretty sure they did that horrible design on purpose. That creepy Sonic was made ONLY for the trailer. So, they actually won't fix anything because there's nothing to fix to begin with. The real Sonic is already in the movie since the beginning.

I’ll be honest I had some of that troll hate in my heart I shared some of those same criticisms maybe not as colorfully but I’ll be honest, the franchise left me to the point where I waited for BB to come out on DVD. And I regret it like crazy now. Bumblebee fixed everything for me it healed some disappointments I’d had and I’d gladly take a Bumblebee series of movies if it meant this level of quality from here on out.

According to a new article from Comicbook.com some customers who received their Transformers Bumblebee 4K Ultra HD DVD's have been reporting audio sync issues where the sound is not matching the picture. Paramount has received enough complaints to issue a formal statement which follows:

"In response to Bumblebee UHD’s picture and audio sync issues being observed on some playback platforms, we have determined we can tighten their alignment to remedy the audio sync lag issue. Audio sync lag was observed primarily with the English ATMOS track, but we are addressing all the audio tracks on the disc regardless. The majority of consumers may never notice the sync issue, but unfortunately, the audio sync lag is exacerbated by viewing the film via the “ARC” (Audio Return Channel) port on TVs that output to a sound-bar or receiver. Compliance amongst TV manufacturer ARC implementation is not standardized, thus different set-ups will exhibit different and varying playback behavior, even if played back on the same set-up multiple times. A replacement disc is already ready that will align the picture and audio sync better, but do note, it still may not remedy all the ARC playback set-ups in the market – we suggest consulting your manufacturer’s documentation on how to align picture and audio sync if still experiencing lag."

The article further states that faulty DVD's are encouraged to include their shipping information and mail their defective UHD discs to the below address to receive the replacement disc free of charge.

Some fun news for Friday. There is a listing right now on a Facebook truck selling group for the 87 Freightliner cab used as Optimus Prime's truck mode at the end of the Bumblebee movie. There is a lot of fun to be had with this listing like how to us this is a movie prop while to the seller, it's a truck that needs some work done:

I have zero clue on the total miles. It's got 85k on an overhaul without paperwork. New front rear end. New air compressor as of 2/23/20.
This truck was featured in the ending scene of the motion picture Bumblebee, so it is the legitimate Optimus Prime.
Ok, now here's what it needs: new driver's side door, some fenders, lower section of the grill.

The statement of the paintjob not being stellar also gave me a good chuckle. It seems truck fans and transformers toys fans have quite a bit in common.

You can find the listing here.

Just imagine if an expert in metal working and hydraulics, owner of a massive scrapyard bought this truck. Then not only he rework the cab, but customize the trailer so that it can transform into the "base", complete with the "repair arm" and Roller....

Step 2: Buy Optimus Prime truck.
Step 3: Refurbish trailer into display cases with secondary door.
Step 4: make money as a traveling Transformers action figures museum.

They should donate it to Takara so that they have something to reference when making toys of it.

Oh I think :TAKARATOMY: can design Optimus Prime just fine (mostly), it is :HASBRO: that doesn't much care to do OP justice, in terms of toy concepts/designs AND character consistency especially during the Bayverse-era at least.

And no, I don't mean to bash Bayverse toys/concept designs, I do own most of the main live-action casts and I truly admire the complex engineering of them, but to this day I still don't relate the designs/personalities to the characters I grow up. OP is downright a stone cold hater-murderer. Hasbro/Knight did make things right for me in the Bumblebee movie though.

Then Netflix WFC happened...

So does this mean we won't see that Beewun design in whatever the new TF movie is going to be?

Probably more like they'll actually properly buy a truck for it, rather than rent one like they did with this one. I imagine he'll even still probably be a Freightliner, maybe with some changes.

Where is all the chrome parts from the movie. And this truck has three grab bars in the movie he only has 2 and doesn't have the visor. This might be a decepticon.

I found where Optimus is being stored! Type in those coordinates on Google Earth and you’ll see him in the satellite image, but when you go to street view, you won’t see him because street view isn’t as up to date as the satellite image. But, he’s there!

That stuff was probably all just CGI’ed in.

None of it was CGI. The truck had a big ugly visor when it arrived in California. I gave Paramount permission to discard it for the movie. When it returned home to Nebraska, it had no visor. As an actual truck driver, not a fanboy, I needed a visor so I ordered one from RLK Customs. As for the grab handles, the driver's side of a truck is the working side. It has the 3 grab handles. The passenger side still only has the two.
Yes, this is my truck and it is still for sale.

Wow! Talk about a well-rounded collector's item! I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who would love to have this truck featured in the movie Bumblebee, even if it does require some work. If someone is willing to put in the time, effort, and money to fix this up, they will absolutely have something special!
