Now this... again it's a bit annoying considering the number of characters that would benefit more from Takara's attention like the remnants of the ark crew (+ I'm sure they can make a better seeker). He does look awesome and they finally seem to have nailed his legs. Will I get him? eventually.. but won't be a priority for sure.

I think these new super-cartoon-accurate MPs are cool, but that just feels like a cheap gimmick, juuuuust a little.

I feel like Animation-accuracy might be a much bigger deal in Japan.
And that there really isn’t anywhere else to produce toys that are basically the cartoon jumping out of the screen, hence the new Masterpiece style (with G1, Beast Wars, and the Movies all very screen-accurate)
Sorry, if this has been pointed out. Just my two cents.

But the transformations in the cartoon were cheap looking as hell with very little actual thought of where pieces actually go and how they should accurately look in each form. I guess sometimes the figure has to cheat to achieve the full toon look in the cases where actual real plastic and metals cannot contort.

"Cartoon accuracy" is dependent on whichever source they decide to go with. Just because it doesn't match one specific screen cap you find doesn't mean it isn't accurate to a bunch of other ways it might be drawn in other episodes (or even the same episode).
In that last one the two do even look alike in the same frame!

Ugh you do know he had various faces right? Heck it looks like his 1986 movie face. And to add that pic you posted isn’t exactly a Face ID want tbqh. Poorly drawn to say the least.

Bring this out as G2 with the “refrigeration unit”/voicebox, biga55 cannons and the OPTIMUS trailer and I am SO in!

That prime there looks amazingly like the revoltech optimus that was out years ago.

Yup! Pat Lee shamelessly "adapted" the style of either Masami Obari's or it could have been Satoshi Urushihara's art style.

Do KO versions of MP Optimus not come with a trailer?

They mean the KO will be cheaper and thus they could just ditch the unnecessary trailer without remorse

Whilst I'll agree that MP Grimlock is a bit dated due to predating MP-10 (though IMO engineering wise he's fine, he just needs to be bigger and ditch the static wrist) I dread to think what a new MP Grimlock would look like. Quite aside from anything else he'd ditch the gorgeous golden techno-greebles under smokey clear plastic in favour of flat yellow.

And all in the name of toon accuracy

They'd never cost less and I figure they look fairly bland due to TT going so full bore cartoon accurate. I prefer my Dinos dripping with detail and chromed gold.

All right, wow. That's just insane! They're actually engineering cartoon accuracy into the thing to the point that animation compromises and mistakes have become transforming parts of the figure! The disappearing stripe in truck mode, the lack of wheels in robot mode... This seems less like an "all-around" Masterpiece Prime than a specifically "more cartoon accurate than you ever thought possible" Optimus Prime. I personally don't dig the amount of fakery that goes into recreating the cartoon stylings, but for what it is it's still seriously impressive.

To be honest, from the prototypes I do like the Takara Prime best at the moment, but I'm worried he's going to be the most expensive of the three after Beast Wars Megatron's pricing. I'm going to wait on color pictures and preorder prices before I make any commitments on any of these guys.

Ironhidensh wrote:Because not everyone finds Takara to be the best.
Yeah, but a lot of them have been copying Takara's design philosophy & esthetics resulting in similar toys. It's not like that other Not-Prime that was inspired by Studio OX with the wheels on his backside.. these are clearly meant to complement MP-36 Megatron. It actually doesn't bother me, just wondering out loud if they're wasting their time. These Not-Primes were probably in the works before the big reveal though.

I didn't buy MP-10. It was better than MP-01, but felt like too much of a "halfway house" between what I really wanted (cartoon accuracy) and the infernal MP-01.
I'll be buying this. Its beautiful. MP28 (Hot Rod) is one of my favorite toys to date and the one that finally has brought me into the Masterpiece fold, so its a long mountain to climb from here.

I've been collecting TFs for a good 2 decades nearly and Hot Rodimus MP28 has been one of the most enjoyable toys I've owned in quite some time. It helps Hotrod is one of my favorite characters, too.
On topic - Judging from BW Megatron are we staring down the barrel of a $300\$350 figure? My heart says "no", but my brain says "sadly so and bend over"

I agree. MP-28 is one excellent MP. Leagues better than MP-09 for sure. Maye not as good, as say MP-12, or MP-20 But still top tier.

MP-28 hands down one of the best Autobot cars of the line. Sure MP-9 soured the line with all the QC issues but Hotrodimus took on the challenge and ht a home run!
Those putting the mold down don't know what they are talking about!
The so called "back pack" issue is a NON ISSUE. I challenge anyone else to design a fig even better! He's a near carbon copy of the 1986 character.
The somewhat disappointing (because Takara tried to put too much into so small a structure) was the Tracks mold.........(no neck lock is the worst part of the design).
