i'm reli glad i'm getting this years set, theres quite alot of bang for my buck, the fig itself reminds me of last years megs, but that probs because of the colour scheme, i'd assume they'd complement each other if displayed together
can't wait to see thunderclash

I really don't care what it'll cost, I'll get it anyway...
But this time, I think, they came up with the worst set of the last 5 years... As usual every set will have fans and antis. Although I am not anti and I will get the set, I am just not a big fan.
Figures that we have seen over and over again and a theme that, imo, does not carry any weight in the mythos at all.
A waste of a very good opportunity, if you ask me...
I know, nobody is asking me...
You won't hear me complain about the size of MP Grimlock...

Lets hope Thunderclash is the best yet.

I can't begin to describe how badly I think that sucks. The figure is awsome but the situation...damn.

I'm going to hope he'll be some really good mold, with no prior reuses, that's a truck.
I'm pretty sure she'll be female Thunderclash who's a repaint of Energon Arcee though...
Posted by Overcracker on March 20th, 2009 @ 4:52pm CDT
This is the best figure of the set. Unless Thunderclash can top it.
He does remind me a bit of the Beastwars Optimus Primal figure. Probably the white with the red joints.
But its still a great figure.

No doubt, but it didn't have to be very good to be better than the others. However, I really do like him.

i reli wish this too, but using the mold two years in a row, very highly unlikely

Just like the rest of the set, it's nice, just not more-than-shelf-price nice.

Makes me long for the good old days (2000-2004) when pre-registration was a mere $40 ($20 bucks more got ya a shirt, too!) as opposed to $300+, the convention wasn't always in BFE in relation to Michigan, and the exclusives were actually affordable.
Ah, memories....

I think it's unanimous. After BotCon is over we are all going to get together, storm the mfg plant and break the mold. And after we're done there we are going to beat the hell out of the mold-maker just for good measure.
Posted by Down_Shift on March 20th, 2009 @ 7:49pm CDT
However the overkill of the mould makes me want this set LESS.
Posted by rpetras on March 20th, 2009 @ 8:05pm CDT
I'm not paying those prices either, but I like this one & land shark.
Scourge is OK, but I think Kup is pretty lame.

Now now, lets not hurt the poor guy. For all we know he's one the visionary that came up with Universe Cyclonus or Animated Magnus. If we're gonna beat someone lets pick someone outside of the fan scope... someone fetch me the address of K-Fed...

Now, if you are compare, you gotta do apples to apples. $300 is WITH the toys, the Friday preview and Friday night event. $40 at Otfcc was JUST the Registration. If you added the toys and other features you were well up over $150 and that was just with 2 toys.
Applesauce!

ummm...o.k. But I still get to break the mold before we take down K-Fed right? I'm still gonna shake my finger at the mold guy so he know's we're all serious. Since the head is an improvement and they finally gave it a proper paint job I guess I can't be to harsh with the poor fella.
K-fed however, has no excuse...

So far all the Botcon figures have been TF:Cybertron repaints haven't they?
So I can't see them using a random Classics figure.
Leader-Class Cybertron Optimus, with his semi-esque look and his retractable mask would work, but he's almost certainly too big think.
The deluxe Armada Prime was repackaged in Cybertron with a cyberkey that could activate his minicon port. He's a truck, and since there's already a voyager class figure, a deluxe would make sense. But that would be a hell of a cop out.
Cybertron Defense Red Alert might be a good candidate, but they already remolded him for a Botcon, so I'm skeptical that it would be him.
Quickmix is a truck, but the similarity of the mold ends there. It would be a horrible fit. Plus, it's also a voyager figure.
Mudflap fits closer visually, and, in fact, may be the next best choice ruling out LC Optimus and CD Red Alert, but again, he's a Voyager.
The only thing I can think of that's left, is Dirtboss - a deluxe sized (monster) truck.
Edit:
Going way out in left field, maybe Thunderclash is a repaint of Cybertron Thunderblast. Wouldn't make much sense, but she is a deluxe sized Cybertron figure.

Ah, yes, that is quite true. However, if one did not necessarily give a hang about the repainted convention toys and wanted to blow that extra $260 bucks on the dealer floor, AND was content with the benefits and goodies of the pre-reg package offered at that time, $40 bucks was quite the value. Now, we don't really have that option-its either pony up big bucks or don't pre-register and wait in line at the door.
But alas, i'm drifting precariously off topic.

Highly unlikely. In the Convention Brochure, Kup refers to Thunderclash with a male pronoun twice... and I don't think you can confuse Thunderblast with a male.
I'd agree that Cybertron Optimus Prime would be a natural choice, given the overall design of the toy... though that would make this one of the biggest sets in a long while, in terms of the sheer size of the figures (2 deluxes, a voyager, an ultra, and a leader?)
I'm almost loathe to suggest it... but what about Energon Ironhide? You've got a big, tough vehicle, in a mold that (thankfully) hasn't been used in a good while.
Some recent speculation has included Universe 2.0 Onslaught... though that figure is very new, so I'm not sure if he's a feasible addition yet. Same could be said of Universe Inferno.

I'm still convinced it's going to be a Cybertron figure, but if you were going to extend it back to Energon, then Inferno, Roadblock, and STD Optimus would work too.

I don't see why they wouldn't go to Energon - they're already using Landmine from that line.

My theory is Energon Rodimus.

I second that.
Though a Repaint of Cybertron Prime would be much much cooler.
However I'd much rather see Hasbro do that for a retail release of the mold. So he's not as freaking expensive to get a hold of.

Dang, I forgot about him! I concede the point!
The randomness of the character is just so forgettable.
But of course the two jets are Energon figures too. Duh.
Mkall wrote:My theory is Energon Rodimus.
That's probably a good bet.
Everything else that leaps to mind (e.g. CD Hot Shot, Armada Overload) has been used already.

I will say upfront that I have not done my homework as to what has been hinted at for the remainder of this set and I will risk sounding stupid anyway (neither the first nor last time for me) but would not Energon/Universe Snowcat qualify as an almost truck-like vehicle?
I admit that if it were used I would like to see it with a different head mold but the overall design of the vehicle would actually look quite good alongside the likes of Flak/CD Scattershot.
In all reality, those 2 along with Movie Wreckage and Universe Onslaught would themselves make for an awsome box-set for the general public and be well on the way to more affordable.
Like I said, I don't know the scope of whats involved with the BotCon set and all, but I am sure I will be educated very shortly.
