But those last pics make me sad that he's not very MTMTE-ish. Really, every pic of Whirl by himself gets me excited, then seeing him with Swerve or Skids brings me crashing right back down. *sigh*
The "chicken legs" are halfhearted at best.

Either way, though, he has the IDW face, and since Transformers change their bodies substantially below the neck when they scan a new alternate mode, this satisfies my need for the character. Thrilling Thirty Tailgate, Swerve, and Skids don't have their Cybertronian alternate modes either, so it fits in my mind.

Though really, anyone who dislikes the Generations Springer mold just befuddles me.
No... I said Springer is my ideal Transformer - as in, not just for this line, but for all of ever - and the only reason I could see not to buy him is that he isn't super-realistic like a Binaltech/Alternator figure (if that's the sort of thing you're into, which I'm not).
I don't know how you got anything else from what I said...

Indeed. I'd say that figure represents my ideal transformer. I guess if realism is important to you he comes up short, but otherwise he seems perfect.
It's been hard, Springer is awesome - but haven't found him for less than $22, and he's big, and bright. I did spring for Soundwave, and that was money well spent. Grimlock is cool, but I'm just so happy with animated grimlock . Oh, and I pretty much blew my budget on MetroPlex. Who I kind of don't like because I can't stand him in any pose without having to somehow hold his legs still and find that center of gravity with his torso in my other hand, where his loose hip joints won't collapse and down he folds.
Anyway, Whirl looks like Whirl - and he looks solid, clean and stylistic, very unique among generations toys.

According to various people, Whirl is starting to arrive at BBTS. For retail however it might be a bit longer wait as Rhinox and Double Dealer haven't even shown up yet.

The "toes" appear to be held in place by some sort of teeth/gear system. He may be able to hold more poses than we think.

Nope. I really did misread a bunch of posts. Not sure if sleep deprivation is getting to me or something in my diet is just steadily making me dumber. Lots of stuff running together when I read lately.Caelus wrote:I don't know how you got anything else from what I said...
Sadly I cannot just delete posts. So now I'm going to have to do a bunch of editing.
Back on subject. I wish they'd show his legs transformed differently in more pictures, just so people would stop bringing it up. Though really it only makes him shorter, and he's already a head shorter than springer.
I'm pretty sure it won't work, judging by how his "third mode" transforms, but with the cockpit as big as it is it would probably look really weird anyway.Caelus wrote:I'm not convinced that the IDW form can't be arrived at by mistransforming the heloped mode, especially with confirmation that the arms can be deployed in that form.

Perhaps a 3rd party 'head' that clips onto the cockpit, then? I think It'd look doofy, probably, but I imagine there'll be people who want the comic book nose-guns-forward look badly enough to go for it.

bengear wrote:it really looks like the legs are designed to go the other way around...look at the thighs...why would they design it so that the hollow sides are on the outer thigh and the solid surface on the inner?
Most likely it was designed with "normal" legs and the "chicken" legs were added in last minute, that Whirl's popularity surge came in after the toy was plotted out and that Hasbro tried to appease to the newfound fanbase without completely scrapping the work they already did.

Triptykon wrote:Anyone else have a problem posing Skids? It seems even in the pic with Whirl, he needs to be propped against something. I have him propped against my pc tower due to his heavy back/top weight. A shame because hes one of my favorites from the wave.
Most Skids figures have the tops of his legs backwards. Mine was too and I had to pop off his legs and switch the top of his legs. If you look there is a small L and R on them and they have been put on Skids backwards.

I fixed that immediately on mine and he still doesn't stand up straight, because his ankles don't flex forward enough to compensate for his short heels.
