Covid 19 effects on the year

So, a lot of us are gonna be having a lot more time at home. While my work isn't shutting down (even though it should, but gotta chase that almighty dollar  ), I'll be taking an extended amount of time off over the next month since my kids school is closed and sending them to a sitter defeats the purpose of what is trying to be done. So I thought we should chat about how we think it will effect distribution this year.

First off, lets make it clear from the get go. This is a very serious situation the world finds itself in. If you are a tin foil hat wearing lunatic who wants to peddle his or her evil liberal conspiracy theories, or complain 'cause you can't go to the mall, please go **** off somewhere else. My wife is in healthcare (a nurse) and her industry is terrified right now. Not of the virus itself, but its effects on the system. Another discussion for another thread. Anyway, this is for speculation, not bellyaching.

Personally, I think we are going to see some massive delays in product releases. Maybe even by as much as six months. Very soon, every thing that isn't essential to living is going to have to shut down for a period of time. As much as we might love them, toys are not essential to living. The factories overseas might even see much longer shutdowns as the death rates there could soar among the working class. Here in the states, shipping of non essential product is going to take a backseat even once things get moving again.

All that doom and gloom said, it will get better, and I personally think we will be back on our feet, as a nation, and running again by mid summer. Maybe we'll even learn a few lessons as a country too. All that said, I'm thinking we won't be seeing anything beyond wave 1 of Earthrise till late summer, early fall. Who knows what effects it could have on next years plans.

So what say all of you?

I do agree that the manufacturing and shipping industry (ships, planes, trucks, trains) will be affected mostly. As for discriminating between what most of us deem essentials and what is termed as general items or luxury items, I don't think that will happen, at least not on the large scale. Like you said, the almighty dollar rules. Companies will find a way to keep bringing in the things that sell most/have highest markups. Regardless of the nature or purpose of the product. Yeah, toys and jewelry and stuff like that might see a temporary drop in sales, but not enough for them to not be on shelves due to not getting ordered. I don't think it will get bad enough in the USA for that to happen, industry and economy are too complex. Can't speak for other countries. The only spot in the supply chain of Transformers that might be affected is at the factories overseas, due to human deficiencies. But as long as Hasbro has the stuff in their warehouses, here or anywhere else, they will keep sending them to stores. And if I feel like going out and buying a Transformer, I will do so as long as I have the time, money and desire.

Welp, I've been impacted... My seasonal job at the Renaissance Faire is kaput for this year... The fair was canceled.

I work in a nursing home so you can imagine we've been pretty heavily impacted. Near-total lockdown. No visitors except for hospice, no unessential staff, most entrances are locked, deliveries have to be accepted at the front door, and all staff has to be pre-screened when they enter the building (asked about recent travel, family, and any personal symptoms plus a temp taken). It's annoying, but it's for the right reasons. I have a vacation coming up and while I wasn't going to go anywhere anyway (mainly Spring cleaning and some relaxation) I'm concerned about it getting canceled if our already short staffing gets any shorter.

On the toy related side, outside of the obvious stuff, Amazon announced that they're only restocking essential items like home goods and medication in their warehouses until April 5 so they can prioritize those items. This effects both US and UK warehouses. Basically if a Transformer goes out of stock don't expect it to be back in stock until April.

My sis is a work-at-homes nurse. So she's on the frontlines.

Me, I work at a machine factory and fortunately I mostly work alone. So far, the factory is not closing down and it's better not because I'd bee in deep sheeeeeit.

I travel by bus so the "good news" is now the bus fare is free because we get on and off by the backdoor to keep the driver isolated.
Toys R Us Canada have closed all it's physical stores but not the online one. No cinemas, no restaurants either are open.
I have at least 6 international orders that I'm still waiting for. 2 from Europe and 4 from Japan. Those will take a long while...

And finally, I think I can kiss this year's Montreal Comiccon goodbye.
All thanks to the domino effects of people's stupidity and greed. YAY!

To be honest, I was really surprised when I received a pre-order notice for Burning Convoy, due to be released tomorrow (apparently). I honestly wasn't expecting any releases to resume this side of June. On a personal level, I'm a postman, so we are in the thick of it too. Though nowhere near the level of retail or medical staff.

I work for a community college and our district has been working from home since March 20th. We will continue to work from home for the rest of the semester and all of our in-person classes have been converted to online classes. It has been hell as I'm the tech support coordinator but I'm proud of what we've accomplished for our faculty and students as we serve a lower-income population.

I hope everyone stays safe and has plenty of supplies, this virus is no joke. A friend spent a week in a medically-induced coma after testing positive for Covid-19. She has bad asthma and other issues so they did not take any chances. So please be safe.

First off, wanted to wish all of you the best and I hope you all stay safe.

As for me, I am now working as an engineer from home on the night shift, so yay I still have my job, but I really don't like working nights, I am done with this crude. Also really hard to work from home I've found
