Transformers Masterpiece Beast Wars Megatron In The Works at Takara

Yamamaya_z on Twitter got his hands on the Japanese 2018 Generations book and has stated a quote from one of the Takara designers developing the Beast Wars Masterpiece line. The Japanese text can be found in fellow Seibertronian Actar's quote below where he describes his interpretation but the translation would be similar to this:

"Regarding the Beast Wars "Masterpiece" figures, I felt our first goal was to get to Dinobot, and now the next goal is (Beast Wars) Megatron, so I would like to do my best for that one."

This suggests that Beast Wars Dinobot was their first milestone/target to reach in this line and now that he has been accomplished, the next milestone would be Beast Wars Megatron. It definitely confirms that he is eventually coming and on their minds but it doesn't mean he is next. If the milestone interpretation is correct, we might even be seeing other Beast Wars MPs before Beast Wars Megatron. There are also other masterpiece figures in the works that could come out before, such as Trailcutter and Hoist. Let's just hope he comes with a ducky accessory when he does come out.

Below is the original quote discovered by our own Actar.

Actar wrote:According to a tweet regarding the new Transformers Generations 2018 book, there was a comment by the designers of MP-41 Dinobot:

「『マスターピース』のビーストウォーズに関しては、まず第一目標がダイノボットで、その次はメガトロンだと思っていましたので、そこに向けて頑張っていきたいですね。」

Their first target for the BW MPs was Dinobot. Now, they're aiming for Megatron.

While this is not confirmation that Megatron will be next, the team has shown an interest in making one.

I like that he was basically saying "We did Dinobot so we could develop some tricks that will make Megatron work".

THIS, might be the one MP BW figure I will get because it will no doubt put ladder magic to shame.

Buy only official Takara products to help stave of its bankruptcy. 8-)

Awesome news, but I don't need him to be $300, I just want a nicer version of the BW one with better articulation :(

I really dont see how this guy would require that or be harder to pull off than dinobot or cheetor. Unlike them, his robot mode shows a tone of his alt mode and there doesnt need to be a fake head. He basically keeps his tail, head, legs and beast mode skin (on his back) in robot mode. I would figure of all Beast Wars MPs, he would be the easiest due to all the kibble that doesnt need any hiding.

Exactly, most that I could see TT striving to do would be to have his back kibble 'shrink' like it did in the show, but I don't want to shell out another $100 for that #-o

I think at this point in time they're going for magic over simplicity.

For those worried about the price, there's already a premium variation of the original BW Megatron out there.

And he's had 3 different releases:

What would be the cry baby price range be for Beast Megs?

Above Y15000 but below Y 20000?

Above Y20000 but below Y 30000?

If the fig doesn't sell (Dinobot), will this thread become a a mere rumor?

If it sells good, will you be willing to accept a Y20000 price range for a potential BW line?

Would y'all be accepting parts switching?

What about parts cheating like Dinobot's false head/chest?

If there is a voice chip of the JP actor, will you still get it?

Will you just wait for them to go out on clearance?

If a 3rd party Beast Megatron comes out first and is much better than the official, will you buy the sh_t over the official one?

If Takara folds and Hb gets Mattel/Playmates/Bandai to build TFs, will you still buy those plastic crack or consider them turds?

In order to prevent that, to all TF Masterpiece fans, please ensure that 4000 + units get sold (figure based on Takara's cut off for Gran Max)so Takara will keep on building these puzzle figure toys.

Remember, every time you buy whatever sh_t_ you want anytime anywhere instead of an official MP, a Takara executive is forced to commit seppuko :( while their outsourced employee at SEA gets the pink slip :-$ so as to keep Takara in the black! 8-)

Is there a need to be so condescending?

I consider self-censoring as an attempt to by-pass the swear filter built into the forums. Do it again and you get a warning.

I apologise in advance if what I will write wont make much sense. I tried explaining it to cobotron and he only understood because he felt similarly. I 100% agree that they will do magic over simplicty. So for instance if Megatron's tail weapon on the show looks different than his tail in beast mode, then instead of using the same tail for both modes, they would find a way to turn the beast tail into a bunch of smaller panels that hide away and give him a more accurate looking tail weapon that comes from his back or something. I dont think thats gonna happen, its just an example of magic. Dinobot went for that too. Instead of just using his beast mode feet for his robot mode hands, which he does on the show, they found a way to give him completely new hands for robot mode and hide away the other bits that are no longer needed. Thats magic right there... and I dont really care for it. I really like alt mode integration, it helps keep things simple and elegant without having too many parts that need to hide away. Like if they did use the same hands/feet for both modes then you wouldnt have the raptor claws showing on the back of his robot mode biceps, and you wouldnt see his robot hands trying to hide in raptor mode.

I really like MPs like Wheeljack, Bumblebee and Sidewipe where you feel that this is probably how they do transform in real life. They still feel chuncky in a way even though they have a higher parts count and are more complex. And they dont feel too pannely with parts trying to hide.

I feel it all changed with Tracks and he is a perfect example of what I dont like in the a few MPs since (I forget, did Bumblebee come before or after tracks?). For all those who have tracks, a big beef of mine are those darker panels that are between his legs in car mode and only serve a purpose in robot mode to change the look of his legs. While it probably costs more for the higher parts count, I feel its a cheap way out of recreating the robot mode detail by just patching it up with extraneous panels. It doesnt feel like that is how tracks would transform at all.

Like sure the alt mode looks like the show model and the robot mode looks like the show model (at certain angles) but I know for sure that this is not how he got from one form to the next. In my understanding on Transformers lore, his legs dont look like that because a small panel with different detail was placed over his car parts, they were either there all along under the car (like with cybertron hot shot) or the car parts receded to see robot parts. It really doesnt feel that much different than just having two extraneous 3rd party panels that you then snap onto the toy to make him look more show accurate. That's just an aesthetic change, nothing functional, nothing giving hints to his inner workings. I guess thats why they call it magic, its improbable and doesnt feel real.

This is probably where I lose everyone but for those that understood (whether you agree with em or not), high five!

You keep saying this, but what are you basing it off of? An article about Hasbro being rumored to
want to buy them from several months ago? That was all speculation. They're latest financial report from November 8 shows that their profits are up and debts are down and they're predicting a much better than average 2018 in the first two quarters. Selling a few thousand MPs isn't going to have much of a financial effect on them in the long run anyway.

In order to prevent that, to all TF Masterpiece fans, please ensure that 4000 + units get sold (figure based on Takara's cut off for Gran Max)so Takara will keep on building these puzzle figure toys.

Apples and oranges. Grand Maximus is a semi-obscure Japan-only character made from a not all that well liked mold and sold only at Takara Tomy Mall (and maybe through Hasbro Asia). That's a far cry from a very popular character world wide that'll most likely look phenomenal and sold at mass retail. Even if nobody bought it (which is exceedingly unlikely) it won't stop them from making more MPs after.

william-james88 wrote:beast mode skin (on his back) in robot mode.

Not exactly and this is where the most complexity in the mold is going to come from.

It's going to take a lot of special folding to shrink down those skin panels and hide the t-rex arms.

I'll take that high five. I agree with you mostly. The issues you raise don't bother me quite as much, but I see your point and share it. I'd like to see a little less slavish devotion to extreme cartoon accuracy, and more effort at making the best possible figure.
