Agreed... Especially in my case, I'm going to have the mini bots on their own shelf. So right now it's really only Grapple and Hoist that give a visual break to all of the white and red.
Sunstreaker, Trailbreaker and Hound will all help a bit.

Till-all-R1 wrote:I do wonder why they chose a 5-pk bundle though, they have to know that only 1-2 are going to appeal to the masses. That said, I assume they will be slight different deco like the blue windowed CliffJumper etc.

I've wondered this as well; For a while now I've thought that even leader class figures can be a tough sell. Even for some collectors. But for the average kid or parent, dropping $55+ for one toy... That's steep.
And this set will have to be at least $100, and possibly a lot more depending on what's included (even before tax). Other than solid plastic and painted windows, I don't think these need much altered in terms of the deco.

Till-all-R1 wrote:I'm pretty close to this point as well, and is one reason why I wanted a few Bots done in a timely manner as in real soon.

I said a while back that if Hastak wants much more of my money, they are going to need to keep some G1 characters in the mix, and push those out sooner than later.
For a while now all I've really had on my want list was the 5 main Dinobots and the 3 main Insecticons. So everything else has been icing.
Sure, there are a few more I'd like to have, but I'm not real worried either way. My plan after this year is to keep an eye and ear out, but I'll essentially be done after this year.
I will be very interested to see what Hastak does for the 40th Anniversary of the '86 movie in 2026. But I'm committing to that being the last year that I'll buy any TF.
I've already been surprised at how much I am going to get this year, but I'm assuming and hoping that 2025 will basically be a year-long hiatus.
This is the most materialistic thing in my life, and I'm pretty ready for it to be over.

But that's just it: this pack isn't intended for "the masses." It's likely to be an online and fan-channel exclusive. It's not targeting the "average kid or parent" because it won't be available widely at major retailers. Points of comparison are the Studio Series four- and five-packs, and the Menasor gift set. I know the last one did go on sale, but all of those moved pretty quickly.

The Generations line is designed to appeal to traditional and fandom consumers, but that doesn't mean every release is equally dependent on both of those markets.

If it's part of a set, then it's an easy pass. I'm fine with the old Henkei mold.

I'm hoping they do Target pricing which was basically buy 3 get one free. That would put the price closer to $100.

And Selects doesn't do Studio Series.

I can't believe I forgot that one.
So that mean any SS86 can be "selected." But maybe not those with licenced vehicle modes.

Probably. This 5 pack includes SS86 Jazz so they aren't against using SS86 molds at least, they just wont package them as such.

well seeing as they've introduced the idea of concept designs being in the toylines.

this could be 'dead' Trailbreaker from the TF:TM storyboards.

We've had multiple Studio Series molds in the specialty sub lines, including Magnificus, Jackpot, and BB Arcee. Based on the product listing this won't have SS86 on the box, but it could be Legacy or generic Generations. Meanwhile, the inside of the box can contain whatever Hasbro wants it to, and it could easily be in the spirit of SS86 even if it doesn't have the branding. I think we're all getting a little precious about marketing labels.

If it's not going to be labeled Studio Series 86, chances are high its contents aren't going to be in the vein of Studio Series 86.

Why are you so insistent on even wanting a dead Trailbreaker, anyway?

I personally don't want one and I don't think we'll get one. I just don't think whether it's SS86 or Legacy or a plain cardboard box matters. Assuming the rumors hold up, and they're reliable, the most likely outcomes are either:
1) Opaque windows a la the SS86 Bumblebee and Kup releases (and also dead Prowl and Ironhide), in which case this set will be a nice companion to those, or
2) Some other kind of redeco like toy designs, like the Menasor gift pack

I don't think either are more or less likely based on which molds or product codes are used. Or maybe it'll be something else entirely. We're all grasping at straws, and speculation can be fun, but I don't think there's any evidence to rule anything in or out.

No worries, everyone's excited about the five pack here. I'll find some chill once it finally comes out.

^ . That is a nice sentiment. However I don't think personal like/dislike of a character would override good business decisions (I know Hasbro isn't often known for those lately but...) I know its often *debunked* that later releases are not just extra units that were never sold, but in this case you really have to wonder. Same goes for SS86 Jazz. There's really no other reason why you would bring those 2 back. Sure maybe much of what was sold to retail finally got clearenced out, or send to discount chains. But what if Hasbro had several thousand that were manufactured, but just never ordered by a retailer? This would certainly be a good way to get them out of whatever where house they were in. All Companies hate old product sitting around.

I thought the rumour was they would be solid plastic, not 1 for 1 re-releases. Regular re-releases of those figures is going to dampen my enthusiasm. I have all those guys, just need the Hound - but if yhey're in 'cartoon colors' which Hound is supposed to be, then I can make a determination as to which ones to use as my 'main' version.

Part of the reason I said the above is because there reaslly is zero reason to be releasing that Wheeljack again, particularly with the Legacy Origin version coming.

I don't believe they've done any box sets that were just straight repacks of of the normal retail figures. The three movie box sets had color adjustments (Devastator even added dirt) and the Stunticons used toy colors. I think it's safe to say every figure in this set will be different from the retail versions in some way, either a lot or a little.

As much as I want these to be just screen accurate with all solid plastic, being the 40th anniversary, I could see these having extra paint apps to more closely match the original toy versions.
This isn’t what I want, but for some this could make Wheeljack, Jazz, and therefore the entire set, more enticing.

Nothing would surprise, this could be the Autobot answer to the Stunticon set.

You know, it would be super wrong, but after they eventually do Deluxe Windcharger they should do a box set of Earthrise Prime with Trailer, SS86 Jazz, Kingdom Sideswipe, Kingdom Mirage and Windcharger with vehicle modes done up in Stunticon colors, but still retain mostly normal Autobot colors in bot mode since they can't exactly make those bots look like the characters they're pretending to be. I know it's dumb, but I kinda want it.

According to the Trailbreaker I saw, we're definitely getting solid plastic Cartoon-esque models this time, so there's the value in that pack for me - but the set is gonna be 110 bucks.

Supposedly the figure seen on the left in this photo is the new Trailbreaker for the Autobot 5-pack.
Could be legit, and from what I can see this looks good.
