I think what people aren't taking into account is that this is probably the only MP Style Unicron we will ever get, even though it's under the "War For Cybertron" toyline.

The same was said of Generations Metroplex, Trypticon and TR Fort Max. They are also virtually MP, for a third of the price...

unicron1200 wrote:While it doesn't need to be said, there's no way of making a Unicron figure in scale with the MP's,

It is completely impossible to make a scale accurate Unicron, other than as a cosplay outfit.

I think it was 4000, so half. Plus, unless I am mistaken, I blieve that fan base is much larger than ours.
I'd agree the SW fanbase is larger with some fans standing in both camps. It was 5000 @ $500 x 176% funded so if my math is correct, around 8800 units produced and shipped.

Might explain the numbers for Unicron. I'd like to think Hasbro would feel good about these numbers, but only time will tell.

This is amazing, but far too much money for me, I just don't have it, end of story; and to be fair, has/tak are paying the designers up front on faith this makes it, so if it doesn't they just blew a lot of money paying people for effectively nothing; that being said, hasbro likely wouldn't let all this work go for nothing and I would hope that they might scale it down to titan class if it didn't make its goal :-?

AllNewSuperRobot wrote:That's the thing. We've discussed a potential new Unicron before. He doesn't need to be bigger than Fort Max. His altmode will bulk him out so he looks bigger regardless and as others have already noted, he won't scale with anything, so that aspect doesn't matter either.

I 100% agree. Him being big is not really about getting the right scale, since that wont happen. I think him being bigger is more for the event of it all.

Do they put a hold on your card when you pledge? If so this is a definite no for me, at that price it probably should be. I know a lot of people who got Jabba’s barge and had to flip it right away because they really couldn't afford it AND underestimated the size. I'm surprised they're doing this and cookie monster at the same time. I'm not sure who this will attract, most modern collectors are scoffing at the price and the TF illuminate aren't interested because it's not G1 looking enough.

What I don't get is this:

They have the mold ready. The money is invested. The work is done.
Why do they threaten not to produce if we don't pledge to pay the exorbitant price ahead of time?
Surely they would be better of selling only 3000 copies of this figure, than selling 0.

If I could, I would. I see the size to complexity to potential worth the asking price. If it were 300, 400 or 450 - we'd still complain. Maybe hasbro are over estimating their market, but if Takara think people will pay the asking price for the new mp prime, this would be palatable to those...

Not gonna lie, people would still complain if it were 150$ like every other Titan. Remember Predaking? Omega Supreme? Etc...

I won't have the cash to buy this. Never in a million years. But I will love this to go into production. I love big projects like this. It shows that HasTak isn't afraid to take risks. I never complained about the MP line, and having the best Unicron ever won't stop me from loving it.

Besides, things like this make other stuff like MP Optimus Prime 3.0 much more palatable.

IMHO, there's no way they'll make a Titan-scale version of it doesn't get funded. That would undermine Haslab as an exercise entirely, dooming the entire program. Besides, how much smaller and cheaper could a Titan scale be and still keep the same design? That old Armada dude still gets reissued, I think that's the only alternative.

Like the figure or don't--
if you want it, this is how you get it.

I highly doubt they have the molds already. What they likely have is 3D printed parts of the current design. They won't make the molds until they are 100% sure it is going into production.

I'd settle for a huge Unicron head that opens into a play set.

I'm obviously passing on this Unicron because I can't weaponise him and make him look like a heman figure on stilt stalkers.

They have made what is presumably only a small handful... like no more then 10 of them

The work is most certainly not done, a 19 pound figure would require a lot of plastic and resource to make even 8000 of.

What they have already made will still exist, it's just they won't make anymore if the goal fails.

That's pretty spendy to say, "send us $600 in the next month or it won't exist."

I mean, I'd rather be able to read some reviews, watch some videos and get a feel for something like that before dropping a mortgage payment on it. What if it's crap quality? What if the engineering doesn't quite work? What if the paint apps are garbage?

Plus for that much, shouldn't we have some extras? Like a detachable head, micromaster sized versions of the Decepticon ship and the Ark, micro versions of Metroplex and Trypticon and possibly a microscopic Brainstorm impaled on a fingernail?

One thing I've learned about Transformers fandom in my short time here....

Y'all will spend outright STUPID amounts of money for some stuff without batting an eye and then balk and scream about prices on other stuff.

600$ is a stupid amount of money for a figure ... so is 150$....and yet...

I mean 600 is a bigger number then 150 is and for one figure it better be doing something special.

$150 for a dollhouse-sized action figure with nice articulation feels less stupid than paying that much for a secondhand HO scale steam locomotive.

This Unicron looks a lot more complex than the Sail Barge was, and more complex than the Titan-class toys are, and between that and the size cutting the molds for a production version would be pretty costly.

...it's the largest Transformers ever, from the most beloved era ever and it transforms... I think that fits the definition of "Special."

Scale-wise people routinely drop equivalent amounts of cash on two to three third-party figures like it's "just the cost of being a fan"...but the same people will moan about Leader-class Shockwave at Target being 50 bucks.

How do you know its the same person? From what I see, its different people. Some have more money for this hobby than others and thus will have different reactions. Do you have links to posts from the same people for both those distinct reactions?

But seriously, I mean, every other high end collectible franchise has this, so it's not new. Remember Perfect Grade Gundams? Remember Macross? Hot Toys Hulkbuster? the list goes on and on.

Look, I'm not saying you should pay out of your ass to buy this, but when you think about it, they would only put out an item like this if they knew there's enough people who can afford it. It happens in every fandom, so I would assume there is alot of people who want this. Hell, I want this, even though I can't afford it.

It will definitely be worth it to alot of people, especially those who collect in really expensive lines like Macross or HO scale trains. It just depends on your stand and your opinion alone. I may not be able to get this, but I would never stop anyone who can. On the contrary, go for it ;)

I'm pretty sure Black Hat is one of the people who does that, being practically worshipful of 3P stuff no matter how hideous or pricey, while calling HasTak's retail TFs worthless and not worth their price. I think Black Hat even went as far as to say HasTak should give up making Transformers entirely and leave it to the 3P companies - I know somebody here said that.
