Me either. I suggested that someone take a pic of Cybertron Jetfire wrestling with Titans Return Skullcruncher and Krok (both of whom are crocodilian-alt) because of Jetfire's thick Aussie - er, sorry, Nebulan - accent, and Tigerhawk apparently thinks that would annoy you.

You know what I have never understood?

Why people feel the need to mock the fact I'm Australian. Like, are you all that **** unoriginal you can't come up with an original insult?

Stone the flamin' crows you people ... quit being a bunch of bloody drongos and develop some originality. You're only embarrassing yourselves.

I think it's more that Tigerhawk, who is more aware than I that you're Australian, was expecting you to be annoyed by my joking comparison of Jetfire to Steve Irwin because of Jetfire's stereotypical accent.

Yeah, but the one thing all those "Australian accent" stereotypes fail to get is that Australian's are always taking the piss.

It flies over many heads.

And here I thought it was more of a reference due to the involvement of Krok and Skullcruncher, who are both crocodiles. Either way, I also felt it was a bit of mockery, but I figured Burn is a big boy and he can handle it himself.

Well, that too. But it specifically had to be Jetfire doing it.

It wasn't aimed at Burn, I swear. I just thought it would be funny to have Cybertron Jetfire wrestling crocodiles because the show gave him a stereotypical thick Australian accent, slang and all.

I didn't say it was your fault, you didn't bring up his name first, did you?

Anyway, moving on. This being the AEC thread, I gotta say that IMO Energon was the weakest of the 3 in terms of toy design. Armada and Cybertron both had really good looking figures, whereas Energon only had a handful. And I didn't care for the combining gimmick either. The only time I got a kick out of it is when I got 2 Rodimus figures and combined them with each other to make a bigger Rodimus.

Yeah.. Energon was iffy all around. Here's a good zinger for it: Super Link? More like Weak Link, amirite?

Still, I'm happy to have Energon Optimus. He's not the greatest, no, but he's still fun. And he and his drones are rich in sculpted detail; I'm going to give him and his components a premium paintjob to bring it out.

The Powerlinking gimmick really hurt Energon's potential.

Yeah, if they didn't have to accommodate the figures for the ability to combine, I think we would have gotten more solid figures. And even the ones that didn't have that, like Megatron and Scorponok, were kind of awkward. To this day the only Energon figure I own is Rodimus and a customized Shockwave. I used to have a whole box full of them, but a long time ago I gave them all to a kid I knew whose mom couldn't afford to buy him toys.

Energon was definitely an overly ambitious line. The best ones were ones that tried to do something with the extra parts when Powerlinxing. Inferno, Rodimus, Tow-line and Downshift can all do this and they look all the better for it, but don't necessarily combine all that great. Guys like Hot Shot and Mirage are just huge disappointments. Even the Megas with the size to do better really don't. Ironhide is terrible, Cliffjumper is a good pair of pants but a terrible shirt, and Jetfire probably pulls off everything the best.

Really it's the figures that don't Superlinx that are the best (as you would expect). Starscream, Snowcat, and Demolisher are great figures, Sharkticon and Landmine are both phenomenal, and Omega Supreme is pretty incredible. Really the rest of them are all good figures (except for big Highwire), the combiners are passable really just needing proper hands, Scorponok is fine even if his claws aren't that satisfying, I leave Shockblast just at the bottom of passable, and Bulkhead probably could have been a Mega, his extra parts didn't benefit him at all (boy does that sound timely right about now).

Really it wasn't a bad line, it just got anchored to a bad gimmick.

Speaking of Omega Supreme I didn't get him until the Year of the Snake remold. I was surprised how much I liked him. He's kinda stiff, but really fun.

TBH, Armada figures never appealed to me. Energon really had homages in force, so there are a few molds from the line that I have. But Armada just isn't the same for me.

Energon was the weakest link, but there are still some good toys there.

Landmine is obvious, but I really enjoy having Prowl and Inferno together, they make a great pair, despite Prowl's ugly head. I'm hoping to get Ironhide and Cliffjumper as well to have a larger powerlinx couple. I'm also hoping to get a decent priced prime too, for the novelty of it and how it actually looks good.

Sharkticon and Towline are also pretty fun, and it was enjoyable to make a 5 member combiner from members from all 3 teams

@Gauntlet101010 Armada has a lot of creative designs though. And it's not without homages. For instance, Optimus is a joint homage to Powermaster Optimus Prime (combining with the trailer as he does, and his smokestack guns are based on PMOP's turrets), Star Convoy (the trailer itself, plus it being towed by a long-nose cab), and Laser Optimus Prime (cab robot transformation, and he has the Laser Rod gimmick in super mode). Scavenger is a composite homage to all six G1 Constructicons plus their combined form.

@Emerje Idk about "anchored to a bad gimmick" (anchored to a bad show, on the other hand... Yeah. The show was bad, and worse still in the dub). Energon's gimmick sounds neat in concept to me. And while modern toys have suffered a lot of mass reduction compared to the Unicron Trilogy... I feel that Energon's combining gimmick could be executed better now than in an era when bicep swivels were considered optional on anything smaller than a Leader.

Yeah, I'm really sorry about that.
Snarl v. Wolfwire (It's my preferred name for him,) is awesome. I'm no good with photos, unfortunately.

Some people don't like the fact that his super mode legs are completely inarticulate. I'm personally not bothered by it considering what else it has to do (plus it looks good), and I think the motorized transformation is epic. And a lot of people do love him.

The one I see really getting dissed is Energon Optimus, due to his cab robot being on the portly side.

And then there's all the ableist "humor" about Armada Hotshot... Large chunks of TFW2005's content could do with being nuked off the face of the web. :-x

Over-sized useless gimmick. Best way to explain it.

The legs were locked in position. G1 Optimus Prime was miles ahead in articulation than this guy. The "can automatically transform" gimmick was just terrible.

Deluxe "Bendy" Armada Prime however was a great figure

Exactly the view I was talking about, though with less vitriol than I saw on TFW2005. I hardly think it's useless.

Burn wrote:The legs were locked in position.
Only in super mode. The cab robot's legs work just fine.
The super mode legs being static is a consequence of this:
Image
The base mode, which was designed to be for Mini-Cons what Star Convoy's is for Micromasters (only better). It's a main feature of the toy, as much as the super mode is.

And doubtless Omega Prime's stability problems were on the Armada designers' minds.

Burn wrote:G1 Optimus Prime was miles ahead in articulation than this guy.
1. IMO you're getting a bit apples-to-oranges by comparing G1 Optimus' cab robot to Armada Optimus' super mode; it would be more fair to compare the super mode to Ultra Magnus. Cab to cab, Armada may not have elbow rotation, but IMO he wins out by having outward arm movement as well as hip articulation that's good for more than just transformation (which makes his knees actually useful).
2. Even comparing G1 Optimus' cab robot to Armada Optimus' super mode, it's not as 1-sided in G1 Optimus' favor as you think. Armada Super Optimus may not have G1 Optimus' questionably-useful knees, but he does have a greater range of motion in his arms.

Burn wrote:The "can automatically transform" gimmick was just terrible.
Some of us think it's quite cool :P At least, when not impaired by leaked batteries because we stored it unused for a couple years with batteries in  :BANG_HEAD:

I love combining Prime with Jetfire. Great combination, and the Armada Jetfire is the best Jetfire figure we have gotten, in my opinion. And of course adding Overload on top as a pair of shoulder cannons is awesome, plus if you get them all linked up in vehicle mode, he can carry Jetfire. Pulled off the combination gimmick a lot better than Energon, and probably even Cybertron. And I love me some Nemesis Bendy Prime, I wish we would have gotten him in full-size, even if he didn't get a trailer, considering the character got his own episode.

Armada Jetfire is so good, I love that figure! the alt mode is joy, and the robot mode is really cool. And he makes great legs, though i like keeping him separate.

His redeco as TFCC Astrotrain was pretty neat as well, even though it's not accurate, because he's not a triplechanger. But his colors pop really well. I actually regret having sold him a few years ago.
