BeastProwl wrote:MK9 might change that for you, I quite liked it. But I always loved Mortal Kombat's beautiful in game worlds and weird characters, so IDK. Scorpion's backstory is particularly well portrayed in mk9, I remember it legitimately making me feel sad for him.

Hmm, y'know what you could do? Watch the web series. The live action one, it currently doesnt have a 3rd season, but the same people are working on a film that'll be in theaters.

Thanks, I'll look up MK9 when I'm free enough to set a few hours aside for gaming. Currently trying to start my own freelance 3d modeling business, and it's been hectic setting stuff up and learning the finer points of 3D sculpting software, but that's another story for another time.

I didn't know they had a recent MK series. The last live action MK series I watched was Konquest, and that was ages ago.

BeastProwl wrote:Soul Calibur 5 ruined the story for me. Not just the new characters either, wich are their own can of worms, but certain things threw it off, like why does Ivy still look so young, does she even age? I feel like something in the story says no, but that doesnt feel right. Speaking of Ivy though, her dad, my main Cervantes, why doesn't he look all undead anymore? He looks normal now. Raphael looks normal too, but apparently he's still a vanpire? Nightmare's just a regular guy in armor now too? Seigfried without Soul Edge? And what about Asteroth? He's just inconsistent.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't touch the SC games after the transition to PS3. I read the reviews and didn't like the super-short levels for each character.

Wait, Nightmare's a normal guy in armor? Now that's just stupid, Namco. He's a physical manifestation of Soul Edge, not an actual human.

That said, I heard that Tira's become the new fan favorite of the franchise. Her moves were always a little wonky, and despite being a speed character, she's not quite as agile as, say, Taki.

BeastProwl wrote:And the new guys? They have potential, but are held down by crappy character. Their fighing styles, at least the brand new ones, are interesting. I particularly like Z.W.E.I because he's got some Jojo **** going on and mad combo potential. But why the replacements? And Don Pierre as the only DLC? Come on now... You couldn't give us Zasalamel? Talim? Setsuka? Anyone? Anyone but Don Pierre, he's just stupid to me.

I heard that Sophitia's kids are 2 of the main characters, and that they were beyond lame.

Wait, they removed Talim from the roster of regulars?! Oh, come on! She's as iconic to SC as Taki and Ivy!

BeastProwl wrote:As far as Street Fighter goes, idunno about locked on disc stuff, I just have Arcade Edition, and I quite enjoy it. I play Akuma, Dudley, and am trying to get into Evil Ryu now, and trying to really get into FADC comboing and stuff, wich is insanely hard for me...

Honestly, the news put me off to the point where I stopped caring about their later releases and haven't played any SF games for the PS3. Even when a friend invited me to his place for a few rounds of SF IV, I insisted on Tekken instead. Well, if they stop that shenanigans one day, I'll start buying SF games again.

The series I was talking about was Mortal Kombat Legacy, it's quite good! And apparently it was popular enough to get Bryan Tee on as Lue Kang, and Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa to play Shang Trung.

Oh they removed an assload of characters from Soul Calibur, some standouts though are Talim, Taki, Kilik (Ok he;s in it, but screw new Kilik) Zasalamel, Sophitia and her sister, technically Yoshimitzu, his decendant is in it, Yoshimitsu the 2nd, but its just Yoshimitsu, so why even? Yun Seong (I miss him) and some girl with a similar fighting style was givin new moves from another girl who had a similar style as well, and she replaces both of them I think? It's weird...

They added 2 copies of each of Sophitia's kids, Patrokalous (Or however you spell is) and pyrra. They all 4 have different styles, and at least Patroka-whatever is fun to play as, and the alpha and omega varients are very complex in comparison, like I cant even pick them up...

Zwei is cool, I like his style, though he's hard to use. They brought back Algol, who was the big bad in SC4 (Wich was good BTW ide recomend you pick it up) and they also added in Ezio from assassin's creed, and he's cool.

The game itself isnt bad, the combat's good, though it rely's on meter now making certain types of blocks meter based, therefore useless. But it's character creation is leaps and bounds above any other entry into the series.

Speaking of wich, there's a secret fighting style to unlock as well, for your created character, Devil Jin from Tekken. I never played tekken besides at my cousin's house, but if the hidden Devil Jin fighting style is anything like the real Tekken's, I could get into it. I use Devil Jin primarely, even though Cervantes has taken all my attention here lately.

On Capcom, all I can say is I bought the game used, for like 20 bucks, and I love it, even though the company itself is crappy I get that, but I get enjoyment from the game itself. And to me, thats all that matters here, since I got it used, they probably didn't profit at all.

Ooh, nice!

Cary Tagawa will always be the definitive Shang Tsung in my book. 8)

Too bad they couldn't bring Robin Shou back as Liu Kang, but Bryan Tee looks close enough. Nice backstory on Scorpion and Sub-Zero, too.

I still prefer Talisa Soto as Kitana, but I guess she's not quite as young as she was back when the first movie was made.

BeastProwl wrote:Oh they removed an assload of characters from Soul Calibur, some standouts though are Talim, Taki, Kilik (Ok he;s in it, but screw new Kilik) Zasalamel, Sophitia and her sister, technically Yoshimitzu, his decendant is in it, Yoshimitsu the 2nd, but its just Yoshimitsu, so why even? That's...awful. Taki's gone too?! I'm really going to miss her awesome boobs--...her moves! I meant her moves! Changing Yoshimitsu seems pointless. I mean, he looks different in every Tekken game anyway.

Is the girl you mentioned named Seung Mina? If she wields a halberd, that's her.

It probably goes without saying, but I take it Maxi and Amy are gone, too?

SC4? Thanks, it's on my to-buy list. I enjoyed the hell out of the character-creation mini game in SC3.

I don't use Devil Jin all that much, but his human form is one of my favorites, second only to Nina. Both Devil and human Jin probably share a lot of moves, except his devil form shoots lasers from his third eye.

Tekken's fighting system is pretty awesome, but the story's gone well down Loony Lane. Story mode in Tekken 6 is some crazy-ass 3d version of Tekken Force, and the controls are downright weird and unwieldy, with elements of RPG mixed in. You're made to control Lars (Heihachi's blonde-haired, Swedish son, believe it or not) with a robot girl named Alissa Boskonovich accompanying her. The whole main story revolves around just the 2 of them. After the 1st play-through, you can replace Lars with another character, which changes the written dialogue, but the cutscenes remain the same.

There's something called Tekken Stadium, where you get a short 5 level playthrough to the boss and earn your character's 3G ending scene, but you can actually unlock them by racking up fights in the story mode.

Either way, I'll still get Tekken 7 for the PS4, as it's apparently the final game that wraps up the Mishima clan storyline. Plus, we finally get to see Heihachi's wife. I wonder how she'll react to Lars.

Oh, and I need to actually get a PS4 first, as I've been putting it off for a while now. Planned on buying it once FF XV is released, but it seems that there are a number of good PS4-exclusive games coming out right now.

Regarding sc, I loved it that sigfried finally separated himself from soul edge (and technically stole soul calibur) plus his armour in sc4 was awesome. And ivy doesn't age because of her alchemist research. Xenoverse is my current addiction

On these latest gen 3D fighting game, one complaint I have on Tekken is that Namco didn't apply the 8 way run to it like they did on Soul Calbur. If they did that, it would have floored DOA to the ground. DOALR looks pretty and is just a deep (and bouncy).

Tekken is already kinda like adapting DOA's saucy gimmicks (imitation is the best form of flattery?)

Btw, whatever happened to Namco's Tekken vs Streetfighter version? Is it still in developmental hell?

Street Fighter X Tekken came out ages ago. It was SF4 with Tekken characters, had some of the best online code, some awesome tag team mechanics, amd was the biggest example of why capcom's **** with its DLC practices. Look up Angry Joe's review of it, he covers it pretty well. It's a good game too, freaking capcom.

As strange as it seems, I like a good story to go with my fighting games, and DOA's plot was pretty much crap. If I can't grow fond of the characters, it doesn't matter how good the gameplay is. DOA Hardcore for the PS2 was my first and last taste of the franchise.

Try the 3DS (for a recap/update of the story) and go to the PS4 DOALR. Excellent jumping point. The 3DS version is less saucy of them all.

I bet Capcom had something to do with it too, not just bad sales, and dont forget about Pokken, they are also doing that.

According to IGN, it's supposed to be out later this month, the 18th to be exact.

I just noticed that the Williams sisters have been taken off the roster. Don't care much for Anna, but Nina was my favorite character. I found her moves are easy to master, efficient and effective.

DOA5LR recently released their Senran Kagura inspired costumes. These packs allow for battle damage when the hits reach a certain level of damage. Kind like Fighting Vipers and Soul Calibur IV implemented. (Btw, prefered the damage physics of SC IV over SC V which felt kind of a downgrade to be honest)

Anyway, I was wondering what took KT that long to implement the damage effect as they already included dirt, grime and sweat/transparencies.

The PS4 version really make the beautiful fighters even more gorgeous. Momiji in PS3 was hawt but when viewed in certain angles, the light sourcing makes her face look weird. Same with Kasumi's eyes. Now that issue is past tense.

Anyone know when Tekken 7's coming out for the PS4? And as slim as the chances are, might there be a PS3 version?

IMO, the jump in graphics from the PS3 to the PS4 isn't quite as wide as, say, the jump from the PS1 to the PS2. I find PS3 graphics to still be good enough that they don't look dated, so if there's a PS3 version of a game, I usually try to get that once since it's cheaper than the PS4 version.

Again, just my opinions here.
