In Hand Images of Legacy Leader Blitzwing Confirms Voyager Size and No Animated Gimmick

Postby william-james88 » Wed Mar 23, 2022 1:09 pm

Motto: "'till All Are One"
Alright, so this is the moment many G1 fans were looking forward: a good look at the upcoming Transformers Legacy leader class Blitzwing. And now we have it. Prime vs Prime released his review and we have images of that below. We can see that Hasbro really went G1 purist on this toy by not having any references to the "Animated" version (unlike what they did with the T30 Blitzwing) and being very faithful to the G1 cartoon model which had an odd looking front in tank mode. You'll let us know what you think of that. Also, while it will be released as leader class, it is of voyager size, so it will be in scale with WFC Megatron and Astrotrain. He comes with 2 big Energon gauntlets along with guns and a sword. We can see how well he can pose in the shots below. This toy is estimated to have a summer release. Now Beast Wars Dragon Megatron is the only leader class toy yet to be revealed in the Legacy line.

Jet mode really suffers with the stuff underneath it and the turret no longer has the 'wheels' on it unlike the cartoon or how it used in jet mode. Easy pass just need some third party or diy 3d titan masters animated heads for the takara legends/TR figure.

Maybe they will re-release it in studio series at an even higher press complete with optimus grill indentations later on XD

Yeah, not digging the jet mode so much though it looks nice otherwise. I really like Bot mode and Tank mode though so a definite purchase for me as he'll mostly be in bot mode! Also really glad I didn't have to wait too long for this update like I have/am for others.

Now I just have to wait for Hound. And possibly Alpha Trion if he looks good enough.

Looks pretty good for the most part. Not sure why some people expected the TFA gimmick? It's not based on that rendition of the character. This is supposed to be more faithful to the original whereas T30 was a mash up.

I could be completely wrong... But I don't think those "Hulk Hands" go with Blitzwing. I think he got something meant for another item

Agreed.

I too hope the nosecone tucks away a bit better. On the original toy and the cartoon model it was certainly visible...

But it didn't poke out as far past the treads as it seems to on this guy.

He looks pretty nice overall though, and I'm actually interested. I would probably be okay sticking to Titans Return Blitzwing, admittedly... except that I don't have TR Blitzwing. And I categorically refuse to spend $80 to get him. :-x

My biggest complaint about the jet mode is actually that it's based on an incomplete transformation - the designer seems to have been looking at a G1 Blitzwing without the horizontal stabilizers folded out.

The cockpit is an eyesore, but once it was mentioned it was from the cartoon and I looked it up I feel better about it.

Although, there is such a thing as being too cartoon accurate.

I need to think about whether I really want this. I have T30 Blitz. He's fine. For me. Especially after I got the upgrade kit. And I need to start taking a hard look at my spending. So even if this guy is a marked improvement I still may not get him.

And yet, I still might. Gotta wait for a review.

I think o.supreme is meaning to say those hands are case of an accessory that's really meant for another character... being packaged with a different one, because that one has the budget or just provides the opportunity. It's happened before.

enough with the fake kibble garbage

This toy suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks as a transformers toy. It does all the kind of crap I hate where it goes out of its way to be toon accurate by giving us a ton of faux parts. That's not the point of these toys I love, the genius is in having a bot go from one mode to the next and the parts being reassembled to give something new. But instead here we have:

Fake wings in robot mode (the jet wings are in the legs)
Fake jet cockpit kibble in tank mode to resemble the G1 model (the actual plane cockpit does not have the same details)

Fake parts to give you a G1 toon look which was inspired by lack of complexity in the original G1 toys.

Gonna stick with TR blitzwing even though I don't like his arms.

I think they have done in the past, tbh. I would count CW/PotP as an example.

I agree, but my point was more that they need to really hone the joints and make sure the figures don't suffer for the combiner. Like Abominus and Superion were excellent! But the plane modes for the limbs on Superion had lots of little QC issues and Cut-throat's bird head never stayed on.

ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:
Scottywan82 wrote:CW had flaws, but it was primarily with joint tolerances and general bad designs. CW Menasor's shoulders not pegging in tightly, the weak hips on Motormaster, and the the limb hips used as combiner elbows. The connection ports and real transformation of limbs was not the issue that needed solving.

Indeed. And honestly, I don't think the limb hips used as combiner elbows was all that bad. Would have worked better if the hips were ratcheted, yes, but I personally haven't found it to be bad. I also felt plenty of the limb designs worked (although the Hasbro Technobots save Afterburner are bleh). Of the ones I've experienced, the Drag Strip mold is the only one I've been irked by. It's why I was initially excited when we first saw Legacy Drag Strip - being more geewun would have eliminated a fair bit of CW DS's awkwardness since the arms could have tucked in in altmode.

Completely agree. It would be so easy to have kept the same style combining for him without compromising his other modes, and it stings that they didn't even try.

Blitzwing looks nice enough, I probably will get him. The cockpit sticking out of the tank's front probably is a mis-transformation, I'll be surprised if it is actually intended to look like that.

Considering it's faux parts as Will pointed out, yes it really is meant to look like that, double check the g1 cartoon to see yourself.

I don't doubt it, but the mistransformation for the barrel makes me mildly hopeful. I'll probably still pick him up, but that cockpit just does not look good in tank mode, Sunbow accurate or not

Personally I absolutely love how it looks compared to the TR version...especially since the arms at least look like less of a mess. I do still prefer how TR handled the backpack...argh. I guess I am feeling rather split, but I'm leaning more towards this guy. Maybe I'll be a good consumer and buy this anyway to compare it with the TR version. The gauntlets give me vibes of Tidal Wave for some reason - but it definitely seems weird to beef up his price because of those. The articulation does look pretty damn superb compared to the TR and T30 versions so I guess that's where some of it went? And then chucked the gauntlets for some potential "build a figure" thing or maybe even as an accessory for some other figure we'll be expected to fork out cash to as well.

So yeah, 10/10 HasTak you did it again

Seriously? Geez... What an idiotic waste of plastic that fake canopy is. It could be worse, it could have been a fake nosecone instead of a fake canopy.

Pulling a TR Mindwipe with the wings is also questionable to me, since it seems like that's the biggest contributor to him ending up as a Leader-class...

There is definitely such a thing as too cartoon accurate. Which is why AFAIC we don't really have an MP Hound yet. MP-44, MP-45, MP-47, and MP-51 should all have their molds melted down - and they and their repaints should be stricken from the MP numbering.

Maybe this Blitzwing coming out will knock the prices on TR Blitzwing back down to non-"Go to hell you ripoff artist" levels.

ZeroWolf wrote:Considering it's faux parts as Will pointed out, yes it really is meant to look like that, double check the g1 cartoon to see yourself.
Meant to be visible there, yes. But not necessarily to stick out that far - while the G1 cartoon certainly had the cockpit visible there (as per the toy)...

Image
... it doesn't seem to poke out significantly past the treads like we're seeing in this.

Also, I just realized this makes the faux-canopy even stupider because the cartoon shows the canopy being on the underside - what's up top in the cartoon model looks more like just markings (even if it was the canopy on the G1 toy)! So the faux-canopy is actually less accurate. Good f***ing job!
