I'm glad it's G1 in style. Metroplex was and I want Trypticon to match him.

Anyway, not everything is G1. How many movie lines did we get taking over the shelves? And another's on the way. I'm pretty sure they've just about run out of things to make, at least for the first few seasons of G1.

It doesn't, and from what I've read, no one is asking for that. I personally am disappointed that it looks so much like his G1 self.

Yeah, it's nice getting G1-esque figures with modern engineering (growing with them and playing with semi-bricks then people would understand, not necessarily sympathise) but most of us "G1-ers" actually DO like different takes on things.

My concern is that Trypticon will follow in the footsteps of Fortress Maximus and end up just a up-scaled version of his G1 self with no major significant changes to the point that those of us who have a G1 Trypticon may as well overlook this guy.

Yeah, that was the point I was originally trying to make, this guy is so G1 because the fans are always complaining that things aren't G1 enough. This is hasbro attempting to satisfy them. When in all honesty it's not that different from the original figure. So if you want something that looks just like the G1 buy the G1 and let us have something new.
Metroplex was cool and he's based on fall of cybertron, not everything has to be G1 to be good.

My fear as well.

And for the record, I wish not nor need for this version to walk. I do agree though that those purple struts are probably more to be the cannons in base mode than anything else.

EDIT:

Hasbro has never tried to satisfy anyone but their own board of directors. I think the current state of things is more due to a design team that is way into G1.

To be fair, Titan class Metroplex was a bit more of an updated design than this "G1 with knees" design (as it's called) that Titan class Trypticon has.

I mean, Metroplex's 1986 toy and character model were pretty tubby, while his Titan class toy was more skinny and, dare I say, anorexic in appearance. And, well, Titan Metroplex's face was pretty heavily based more on that of FOC Metroplex than any of the preexisting G1 Metroplex face designs.

Meanwhile, this Trypticon just looks like a larger version of the 1986 toy with only some superficial, far less obvious aesthetic differences.

DISAGREE!!!!!!! :-P

This is what I said about Fort Max and I was so adamant that as soon as I saw the full reveal at toy fair, I bought an encore fort max instead. I eventually got TR Fort Max because the price was good and I wanted some fun titans return stuff connecting action but I was dissapointed. The G1 was all I needed for Fort Max.

But not this guy, and here is why, G1 Tryptcon is puny:

Image

He also doesnt have a great base mode and the T rex mode is super limited. He is a real brick with no articulation. Unlike other big G1 base bots (like the glorious Scorponok), there is tons of room to improve here for Trypticon. Give him a few points of articulation, make it a fun base, make the transformation take more than 2 seconds, make him big (and for cripes sake, make those shoulder cannons do something). He is lacking on all these points, unlike G1 Fort Max.

I own G1 Trypticon and its really not that great a toy, he just looks cool in a retro way in Kaiju mode, but thats it. So I really hope this one will be better.

Armada Optimus Prime had a motor, although it's used for autotransform rather that forward movement. And if Rescue Bots counts, there's the "Flip Changers" versions of Heatwave and Chase and the pull-back versions of Sideswipe and Bumblebee.

Ha ha Oh I'm not disagreeing with you, but I find this design to be equally as stupid.
Oh no Trypticon is coming, quick someone trip him! Once he falls he won't be able to get back up.

Seriously though, no hard feelings towards anyone here. I'm just disappointed that something that should have been awesome, just isn't.

What is he then?

I think he's implying that tryp is a cheap godzilla knock-off - despite the fact that he is clearly a t-rex in the exact same style as grimlock >:oP

No, what I'm saying is that Trypticon has three fingers, while a T-Rex only has two (for whatever reason). He resembles a Cryolophosaurus (the three fingers and head crest and big similarities) than anything else. Cryolophosaurus:

But what's funny is, the Cryolophosaurs wasn't discovered until 1991, while Trypticon was released in 1986/'87.

OH YESSSS! I really like this and can not wait to get him, but:

#1. I am wondering if it still has the head master gimmick like the reset of the titan master line.

#2. I hope he is darker shade then that grey.

#3. curious to know if he turns into a base/tank(most likely), or a warship.

Either way can't wait to find out.
My girlfriend asked me why I carry a gun in the house, what am I afraid of? I looked at her straight in the eye and said "The decepticons". She laughed, I laughed, and the toaster laughed, I shot the toaster, it was a good time.

The artist goofed? What we actually see are scientifically deduced interpretations, as actual fossils are fragmented most of the time, with missing and incomplete pieces throughout.

I know that they are often fragmented, but a Google Images search shows different skeletons, each with three fingers. Actually, all the pictures I've seen (except for the one I posted) depict the Cryolophosaurus having three fingers.

This new Trypticon looks fantastic. Since I probably won't have room for him on a proper TF shelf, he'll look perfect facing off against my 2 foot tall Godzilla. What we've seen of his other modes from the teasers looks good enough that even if they're not great, his GIANT ROBOT DINOSAUR WITH GUNS mode will satisfy me. And I don't care that he's not in a modern theropod dinosaur stance, there's several reasons that probably wouldn't work for a giant toy. He looks cool and unlike Fort Max, I'm more than willing to buy him on sight.

Although I really should get to work on tracking down some Metroplex to go with him as well.

He has no visible wheels on his tail so no rolling Battlestation mode then ?

Cobotron wrote:Full tilt is the little purple car, correct? You can see him stuck to the chest of Trypticon in that picture. Almost looks like he could be Deluxe size.

I would speculate that Full Tilt is the Titanmaster and not Trypticon.
I think he's Deluxe size and may even be a mould used again for one of the as yet unseen gift set items too. I would say this as his Vehicle mode has a cockpit in it.

Burn wrote:Because when you add articulation, it improves.

When you just take the old design, and simply change it up a bit without really improving things, then yeah, it's lazy.

Look at Fortress Maximus, what exactly makes the modern version any better than the original version?

I did feel that way about Gi Joe when they just remade all the old figures with Joints as I liked Gi Joe for the new Cobra soldier "Vipers" and new Joes and Hasbro and Funpub just sold the same thing over an over - great for new collectors but for me I wanted new stuff.

I still want more new stuff for Transformers in general - the lack of it is kinda annoying as is RID & the Movies selling the same thing over and over and over to you - to a greater extent than is normally the case with "Optimus Prime of the year syndrome".

As for Fort Max - well he is taller - but other than that the original is the superior toy in almost every other way - from functions, accessories to play value. also his noises kinda suck too. but the worst feature is he falls down in some practical play respects like with the ramps.

I'm hoping a third party will make some extenders to fix that issue.

I suppose they will make another convention version with hardly any changes again rather than actually do something useful like make Gigastorm as the convention release especially as it would be in anticipation of almost 20 years since the original came out (in 1998) and how cool would it be to have a Gigastorm that big to interact with Beast Wars Basics !!

http://www.tfu.info/1998/Destron/Gigast ... astorm.htm

I just hope if he is made in Japan they don't pull their sometime stupid trick of missing pieces out to comply with the original toy like they did with Henkei Sideswipe.

Deadput wrote:So is Trypticon here considered to be a part of Titans Returns or is he going to be a Power of the Prime's figure?

If he is Titans I could imagine they don't give Trypticon a Headmaster part but instead give it to Full Tilt.

Yes I think Full Tilt has it too.

He has to be part of the current 2017 line as I think the idea is to make one per year so Fort Max is 2016's and Trypticon is 2017's the next one would likely be out early 2018 and branded for Prime Wars 3.0.

The most likely candidates being Scorponok, or Omega Supreme.

I would hope that some how or other Metro Titan will come out sometime though... especially if they bring back Micromasters in a big way sometime he'd suit them as that was part of his original gimic.
