US Masterpiece Starscream, and Takara Masterpiece Skywarp, are the 2 best Masterpiece figures i've seen so far.

Prime, and all his iterations pales in comparison.

I agree about Starscream and Skywarp being better than Prime. I think Megatron is the best of all though. I just got him the other day (the same day Starscream broke actually). I don't know if this 2nd run of Megatron is different or not, but I never felt like I was going to break him while transforming.

What is the part you are suppose to cut (pics maybe?). Also, I love transforming things back and forth, not just a couple of times. That is why I'm afraid of breaking it, because if its really cool I can't help but transforming it over and over.

Finding this bugger is going to drive me mad, I am already crazy. I have lost 13 eBay auctions thus far since X-mas. The hunt continues.

The piece you want to modify is the black piece(green on MP-03) that connects the wings to the back of the figure. You'd want to just work on the sides that actually touch the white plastic. There's a thread on tfw2005 that goes into more detail. I linked to two pictures that might be of use:

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/R_Deckard/Macross%20SDF-1/Starscream/broken/DSCF1807-1.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/R_Deckard/Macross%20SDF-1/Starscream/broken/DSCF1806.jpg

You don't need to shave a lot off. You just need enough taken off to let the wings move easier.

Sorry, but that's a bunch of garbage IMO. It's a "Transformer," not a model plane or robot. The quality may be poor to the point that you're best served keeping it as a model, but that don't make it right. If it is only meant to be a model and intended for collectors and not kids, then why do they put for ages 5+ on the box? And like the MP Prime comparison made earlier...that's a plenty durable toy. Why didn't they follow suit with MP SS?

The quality of these figures is fairly high, the problems with durability are experienced by all Masterpiece figures including Masterpiece Voltron. They favor aesthetics over durability and were designed with that in mind. Masterpiece figures are meant to be handled with care and the Masterpiece label is a disclaimer to the very nature of the object you are dealing with. Just because it reads for ages five+ just means that it is safe for use by children five+.

I shaved down what 009* shows in those pics on my broken Starscream and it works. I found it helped also to take the wings off by removing the two sliding screws. That way you can get to that black hinge from all angles. By doing that, I was able to shave the black piece without scraping up the body of the plane any. As far as how much to shave I guess is up to you. The wings won't stand up quite as firmly on their own in robot mode after this. The more you shave, the worse it gets. If you move those skirt wings back all the way back it will hold the big wings up anyway, but if you are one of those who takes those off the ball joint, you may need something to clamp those wings.

MP Prime aint that durable either. The simple fact is these arent normal toys like a voyager class classics toy is. You cant yank these guys about and transform them really quickly whilst making the transforming noise. They are delicate, intricate and sophisticated models not designed for kids, and the "ages 5 and up" thing is just a standard safety warning. If you are going to treat and MP figure like a normal toy then you deserve to have it break on you.

The Japanese Masterpiece box say, "Age 15 and above". (I can't read Japanese, but Japanese language use fairly good amount of Chinese characters in their compositions, which i can understand.)

They're meant to be collector items for adults. Not for kids.
Not for play either. They're like antique vases.

There, i found it.

This is a shot of the bottom of my Masterpiece Skywarp box.

"对象年龄15才以上" - These Chinese characters translates to "Subject should have the skill of 15 years old or above".

(The tiny characters above it is the Japanese equivalent.)

I wonder if the 15 and above warning is for the pointy parts though. The japanese version has pointed rear wings. US Starscreams are rounded down.

Forgot to add: To clarify something. I am 33 years old. I do not 'play' with my figures if these comments are directed at me because mine broke. I may have that dirt under my fingernails though. I was very gentle with this thing - Apparently I just transformed it one too many times (approx. 10 times I believe: 5 times to jet, 5 times back to robot). Period. I agree that this thing, with care, should hold up to many transformations....not just a set amount like 10 before breaking. That's ridiculous, regardless of whatever the hell you consider this thing (model, toy, wife, etc.) This flaw on Starscream is so easy to fix too. There's no excuse for them to keep producing this figure with a severe flaw like this. This flaw was happening back with MP-03. The fix is simple: Make the black piece slightly smaller. That's all!

Being in the 30s doesn't necessarily mean you acquired the skills of "15 years old or above".

True. I'm still at risk of shooting my eye out with a Red Ryder BB gun.

Speaking of that clearance. I saw two of those things around 2 weeks ago in a neighboring town. Regular price though. They had them forever too. I swear they didn't sell for weeks there. I go back this last weekend. Of course they're gone now.

Whatev…the point was that a little more quality for a $50 toy doesn’t seem too much to ask, at least not IMO. When they’re breaking on collectors that take a lot of care in them then that’s pretty sad. I agree that it would be idiotic to give this thing to a 5 year old, but saying it’s acceptable for the quality to be that where a capable adult should avoid transforming the thing…dang, maybe I should start a business and get you guys as my customers! Like I said, I thought they were called "Transformers." And for the record, mine is holding up just fine so I’m not just a bitter consumer…but I do think it’s crap if the bottom line is I better leave it alone from here on out if I’m to keep it in one piece. Or do I still have 4 safe transformations left? I think I’ve gone like 5 total so far…or 2 and a half round trips.

Yeah. Even if this toy is untended for "adults", it should not break too easily.
