I like
War for Cybertron: SIEGE Firedrive for giving us an accessible, affordable version of Firebolt. However, the gun mode is inaccurate just like that of the
Legends version, which bugs me. It looks like this:
When it should look more like this:
Or this:
Essentially an engine block with gunbarrels. The Siege version basically has the barrels on backwards and at the wrong elevation. I set about fixing this.
First, I dismantled Firedrive and sawed off the handle peg and the brackets with the mounting pegs for the gunbarrels piece.
Next, I drilled a hole in the base end of the handle peg to admit a nail.
With the handle peg prepared, I glued a wooden filler block into the hollow of it and glued and nailed the peg to that. I also started making the new mount for the gunbarrels.
The new mounting point for the gunbarrels. It reuses the original mount pieces, now set up to on the inside of the gunbarrels piece. I ultimately abandoned the L shape.
The finalized gunbarrels mount, fitted to a convenient notch in the back of the pelvis.
Firedrive in robot/Nebulan mode. The length of the barrels means they stick up behind him like on the Masterpiece version:

Comparison with the MP for completeness.
Proof of concept that he can still do this.
And finally, the gun mode that all the fuss was about. I think it came out okay.
Still needs paint, but that's for another day. This was overall a quick and painless mod.
